Thanks for the help everybody. Keep 'em coming.
By the way, here is my favorite smurf story:
Like humans, all demons have different personalities. Whereas some demons are content with playing practical jokes, others are more evil, in a variety of ways. One smurf doll was possessed by a particularly nasty demon who happened to be a rapist. One day, he cornered a Jehovah's Witness sister in a dark alley and started to rape her. Remembering her Watchtower training, she screamed as loud as she could and fought back. The smurf was so surprised that he stopped his attack and asked her why she reacted like this, when other women would just give in. The sister then gave him a thorough witness. The smurf was so impressed that he began to study and today is serving as an elder in a congregation in Minnesota. True story.

I would like to write an article outlining some of the goofy stories that JWs believe. For example, when I was young, this story went around:
A couple decided that they would miss the meeting to go to see a hypnotist. After the show started, the hypnotist noticed that nothing seemed to be working. So, he turned to the audience and asked "Are there any Jehovah's Witnesses in the audience?" The couple was too embarassed to step forward. So the hypnotist tried his act again. Still it wouldn't work. He made another appeal to the audience. This time the couple came forward. The hypnotist asked them to leave. As soon as they left, the act started to work again.
Then there is the story of the person who stayed home from the meeting and decided to watch "Bewitched". After a while, his concience started bothering him, so he turned the TV off. Then a hand came out of the TV, and turned it back on again.
There is the story of the sister who was out in service and called on a man. After she left the door, she was approached by two police officers who said that the man had just killed the last two people who had come to his door. When they arrested him, they asked him why they didn't kill the JW woman. He said that he wouldn't touch her because of the two big guys with her. She was alone.
Anyway, there are a whole bunch of these stories that can be classed as mythology, folklore, superstition, or whatever. If you know any, please post them here. I may be able to use them.
Or, if you know of a link to a good thread on this subject, post it. -

Why I'll never see 'Brokeback Mountain'

It's been scientifically proven that all homophobes are actually closet homosexuals themselves. The reason that they object so strongly is because of fear and denial that they actually are what they have been programmed to hate.

Jehovah liked Abraham better than Moses!
by gumby insince we all know from being faithful little jeovah's witnesses, nobody can, has, or will see god while on earth.
even jehovah says "nobody can see me and live".
abraham did though.

Have you forgotten that Moses got to see God's ass?
"And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts" - Ex 33:23
That's pretty intimate. Abraham had brunch with God, and Jacob wrestled the bastard, but he only stripped for Moses.

by Bumble Bee ini've started to talk to hubby about things.
i started with the lack of love in the congs and he readily agrees.
how "worldly" friends are so much more loving than the so called jw "friends" (which we don't have anymore).. next i'd like to talk about the changes the "society" has made in recent years, how it's so hard to keep up with things now, it changes all the time.. can you help me with a list of changes and some wt references that i can discuss with him?.

I gave myself Penn & Teller's Bullshit show (season 1) for Christmas this year. Funny, but I always seem to know exactly what to get myself. Anyway, there is an episode on talking to the dead where they pretty thoroughly debunk ouija boards. It also seems to me that Houdini exposed them as frauds many times.
One thing I always wondered as a Witness, since every ouija board is demonized, at what point in the manufacturing process does the demon get inserted? Does Mattel buy demons wholesale? -

Although the body of elders might not appreciate your firm stand on education, you can bet your ass that the other kids in the congregation do appreciate it. You are giving them amunition and helping them find some backbone.

Is the Bible's description of Nineveh correct?
by scout575 injonah 3:3 says: "now nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days journey.
" if we assume that about 20 miles can be covered in a day's walk, that would make nineveh about 60 miles wide.
was nineveh really that big?
-
RunningMan
No, the Bible's description of Ninevah was grossly exagerated, much like the rest of the Bible.JUST HOW BIG WAS NINEVAH? “So Jonah arose and went to Ninevah, according to the word of the LORD. Now, Ninevah was an exceedingly great city, three days journey in breadth. Jonah began to go into the city, going a day’s journey.” - Jonah 3:3,4 A day’s journey in ancient times was approximately 20 miles, so, Ninevah would have been 60 miles in diameter. It would have occupied 2,826 square miles. That’s one big city. Let’s make a few comparisons. New York City occupies only 304 square miles. In that area, 7,322,564 people are housed. This gives a population density of 24,000 people per square mile. By contrast, I live in a small city of 195,000, which occupies 42 square miles, for a density of 4,600. Most ancient cities were fairly dense, due to the logistical difficulties in feeding, watering, and cleaning up after large numbers of people before the age of mass transportation systems, not to mention the cost of building the city walls. For example, ancient Pompeii had a population of 20,000, inside walls with a circumference of 2 miles, for a density of 62,500 persons per square mile. If Ninevah had an average density of 50,000 people per square mile, it must have had a population of 141,300,000. Since New York is considered to be a “great city” by most standards, Ninevah must have been stupendous. It was 9 times larger than New York in land area, and 19 times larger in population. But wait, the bible gives us the population of Ninevah: “And should not I pity Ninevah, that great city in which there are more than a hundred and twenty thousand persons who do not know their right hand from their left, and also much cattle?” - Jonah 4:11 One hundred and twenty thousand persons, spread over 2,826 square miles is only 42 persons per square mile - that’s 15 acres per person, or 60 acres for a family of four. That’s not a city. Realistically, we could expect Ninevah to have a walled circumference of approximately seven miles, assuming that the population figures are accurate. Interestingly, archeologists have found walls that likely were Ninevah, and they were about seven miles around. So, Ninevah was not a three day journey in breadth, unless Jonah was a really slow walker. So slow, in fact, that he could have gotten a job working on the temple.
