  Have we traded one "end times" for another?

  having been a member on this board for a while now, i've noticed that from time to time news leaks about some new damning information that could/maybe/hopfully/luckily will bring down the watchtower society.. is is possible since we were conditioned by the wts to expect the "end" that our mind set is that we must expect something big to happen in our lifetime?

  instead of the end of the wicked world are we now expecting to see the end of the wicked society?.

  i know that not everyone expects the same thing as far as the future of the wts, but i see quite a few that seem to think that its end is imminent.

  I think a lot of people have so much dislike for the organization that they hold out hope for its disintegration.

  In reality, that's not going to happen. I mean, look at some of the dumb-ass religions out there that just keep plugging along - Mormons, Scientologists, Christian Scientists, Seventh Day Adventists, and the one-man evangelical shows. Being wrong or corrupt just doesn't matter.

  I too, would like to see the tower crumble, but the best we can honestly hope for is malaise - an aging, apathetic group with recruitment problems. We can pick at them and make their problems worse, but we won't bring them down.

  The true end game for all of us is to reach a point where JWs are irrelevant, just like they are to the rest of the world. Unfortunately, the scars run so deep that it may take a generation.

  (this thread is inspired in part by fifi40's thread about battling her ex-husband in letting their son go see the new hp movie.).

  still having contact with jw family and some jw friends that i grew up with, it's interesting to see their reaction when conversations come up about the hp books and movies.. my jw mother-in-law snorted and grunted her disapproval and locked herself in her bedroom while visiting while i was watching one of the movies.

  i was watching it when she came in from shopping with other family members and i wasn't about to turn it just because she was in the room.. my brother, dfd but not free of the control of the wts, expressed shock that i had read all the books and commented on them being "demonic".

  Back in the days when we were still active, my daughter was in a class with another JW boy. Both kids were known as witnesses. The teacher would read portions of the book to the class each day. When this happened, the other boy had to leave the room, but my daughter got to stay.

  I told her that if anyone asks why there is a difference between the two of them, she could say that they are orthodox JWs, while we are reformed.

  We're totally reformed, now.

  I'm all for exposing dry rot and I applaud and encourage those who do it.

  Another exposure might help a few more to get out and a few more to avoid going in. But, really, the majority of JWs have their heads so far up their asses that they will never see the light, regardless of how bright it gets. I mean, every prediction that they have ever made has failed, yet people believe the spin that, in a sense, they have always been right.

  What truly impresses me about this sort of stuff is just how difficult it is to tell their real doctrines from sarcastic caricatures. The real doctrines are just as funny, when observed from a distance.
