Cain and Abel - where did they get the idea of a burnt offering?
by truthseeker init has always puzzled me why abel, a herder of sheep, would want to kill his own animals to offer them up to god.. prior to the flood, it would be fair to say that no one ate meat.
maybe they did, maybe they didn't, but assuming that meat.
was not eaten, why would abel's offering be better than cain's offering?.

As I recall, the elder who was the spokesperson for the congregation specifically stated that his counselling had nothing to do with the organization.
But, now we learn that the congregation asked him to do the counselling.
It sounds to me like the elder is lying, and that there is a very clear link between the organization and the infractions. If the congregation really assigned him to do the counselling, then the congregation could very well be liable for his actions while counselling.
It looks like the society might have to pull some lawyers away from the "killing children with the blood doctrine" account and reposition them to the "cover your ass" account.

Oh, this is going to be interesting. I live just down the road from Saskatoon (well, 150 miles, but Regina and Saskatoon are sort of sister cities). My parents lived there in 1996. My df'd sister and numerous relatives still live there.
I don't think I've ever met brother Wendell, but I will have to search the old memory repositories for his name. I assume it will show up in my local paper in a day or two.

I have to admit that I didn't know this either and find it amusing and enlightening. It really goes to show just how far up their asses their heads are.
Woodworth clearly was a jackass. This preposterous calendar really was a waste of paper and an embarassment to the organization (Lord knows they have said enough enbarassing things as it is). It also doesn't make sense. How is Starday any more acceptable than Sunday? And isn't Manday giving undue importance to mere men?
Woodworth also championed a number of other idiotic ideas back in those days. It seems to me that he was the mastermind behind the outstandingly stupid Golden Age magazines of the 1930s.

10 hours can be a lot or a little, depending on how you count your time.
For example, when I was an MS, I would count 4 hours for a family study (which actually happened about 2 hours per year). Then, I would round up my time, so Saturday morning was quite often three hours (the 45 minute coffee break was counted, too).
And, of course, you're allowed to completely fabricate one Saturday per month. So, 13 hours per month could be counted without breaking a sweat.
I knew a guy who counted time until he took his tie off, because his Christian appearance would make a favourable impression on the worldlings. You can also put a Watchtower in the back window of your car and count time whenever you drive around.
