Like it. I think the changes to the understanding of the wheat classes and their harvesting is something that could very well expose some holes which make reasoning around the above very sound.

They've been counterfeiting for over a hundred years! What's the harm???
by Terry indid you ever take the time to sit down and figure out why a counterfeit hundred dollar bill is a bad thing?.
you might reply quickly, "well, duh--you'll spend 20 years in the penitentiary if they catch you doing it!".
as if "getting caught" is the problem............. it isn't.. .

The July 15 Watchtower and all its new light is only...
by sosoconfused inmaking people cling to the organization more.
when i found out it was up i told so many people frantically that there is a new study article up and that it had so many changes.
my mother started crying saying how happy she is to be a part of an organization that is truly directed by jehovah... only the true faithful and discreeet slave could have such insight.... another person began to say how great it is to see the celestial chariot on the move.. .

Having just read the articles a couple of times it's yet another typical blinder by the WTS. I can see everyone lapping this up with no problem.
I think this series of articles presents the most amount of changed docrine ever thrust on the masses yet it's done in the typical way and it's going to be swallowed hook, line and sinker.
I am sure, however, that over the coming weeks there will be significant dissection by the group here and elsewhere to really pick apart the detail and expose the emptyness behind the facade.

Has Gambling Become A Conscience Issue Among JWs?
by FreeAtLast1914 inthe reason i ask is that i have a coupe of cousins who are still jws who have gone gambling in casinos with us.
i have a brother-in-law who openly brags about his "perfect" blackjack strategy he employs in vegas when he's in town.. i know that growing up as a jw, gambling of any kind was a dfing offense.. is my jw family simply more liberal than most, or has there been a subtle shift in this area since i've been out?.

Wow - just seen this thread and the direction re "petty gambling solely for entertainment". That's a new one on me but the WT 02 11/1 p31 reference http://wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/2002808 uses the "wise Christians" get out to cover friendly small stake games amongst friends. So it would seem that a direct prohibition on pain of DF has not been the case for at least 10 years.
Of course, no dub without access to the Flock book will not know elders do well to keep out of it.
On a side note, I've played many games of poker just using chips with brothers - no money stakes. I've also seen brothers openly play slot machines in pubs - never "strong" ones but brothers none the less.
I don't know of anybody who's done the lottery or played online games etc. but I am sure that ones do under the anonimity of the internet.
On the point of share trading then no it isn't consider gambling (see Awake 00 0/8 pp. 25-27 http://wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/102000729?q=stocks&p=par) but I think this is a slightly naive view since there are many more ways of playing the financial markets that simply buying a stock (e.g. spread betting).
The problem for the WTS is that ultimately any form of speculative purchase with aim to sell for a higher price could be gambling as no one can tell the future. All the negative aspects of greed, materialism, addiction etc. can apply to any activity related to financial gain.
I know a witness couple who went on Who Wants to Be A Millionaire in the UK. He lost his privilages and they did not even get to play the game properly (never got through the quick fire question chooser round). Ultimately it was the little green eyed monster of small minded ones in their congregation that did for them and it's jealousy that is behind most of the vitriol against those who do anything to gain financial security.

The most telling indication of whether her approach was the right one is the fact her own party colluded to stab her in the back and viciously twisted the knife when they ousted her.
