Jehovah’s Witnesses Recognize That People Have the Right to Change Religions, Just Not Their Religion
by Watchtower-Free inby alexandra james.
http://jwvictims.org/2015/05/17/jehovahs-witnesses-recognize-that-people-have-the-right-to-change-religions-just-not-their-religion/.
jehovahs witnesses say that people have the right to change religions and that they deserve respect when it comes to that right, but this is not something that they offer to those who leave their religion.

Classic situation at Circuit Assembly Day
by freddo inso i've just skived off to the car park half way through our assembly day - what a classic morning.. i'm sat right behind an early-teen kid with some sort of special needs (autistic?
) who's sat with what looks like his late-30's harassed single parent mother.
(or married to an unbelieving mate?

Clue re approach to Annual Report in Jan 2018 MWB
by Nicholaus Kopernicus inat the agm on oct 7th, his eminence miserable morris iii stated the jw yearbook would cease publication and that the annual report would instead be released via the "about us" menu in the jw website.
related to this, the "life and ministry meeting workbook - january 2018 (living as christians)" outlines the following item to be considered jan 1-7 2018...."annual service report: (15 min.
) talk by an elder.

In the past there was a yearly item in the KM (can't be bothered to look up a reference right now TBH) that reviewed highlights of the yearly report in the YB. I think this item replaces this previous ones based on the YB.
TBH most of these things are the same shite different toilet. The CLAM is essentially the same as the old school and service meeting, just packaged with videos. There's still student talks, demos, discussion of the group book.
The WTS still intends publishing figures. Whilst it remains to be seen if there is a change in the format I suspect that there won't be anything of significance. Most people ignore the detail and look at the big numbers. There has been evidence of a downward trend in the efficacy of ministry for YEARS yet few even realise it let alone care. The WTS banks on the wilful ignorance of the masses and I see no reason for that to change.
At the end of the day, the WTS NEEDS the figures to be published. It likes the headline numbers. It's a reason for reporting. Their usefulness for propaganda outweighs the risks posed by analysis by those critical of the WTS.
I also think that some opposed to the WTS are a little overconfident about how much the WTS really cares about what is said here, on Reddit and the internet in general. Whilst they do take action about certain things they tend to ignore or, at worst, demonise opposition. Rather like the Germans in WWII who were so confident that their Enigma cipher machine was unbreakable they made the rookie mistake of using the equivalent of an "admin/admin" password combination as an encryption marker, the WTS assumes that very few people will actually look at what apostates have to say. I think they ignore the risks posed by cash grabs, annual report analysis, logical assessment of doctrines and policies and so on. The cost to the org is simply not sufficient for them to completely change habits of a lifetime.

YPA change of picture
by dozy inanybody got any idea why the cover picture on the young people ask book was changed?
they removed the picture of the boy bottom right & superimposed a different head.
maybe the guy got dfd or maybe it was to change it to an asian guy rather than 2 caucasians?

I know a brother that was used in a photo representing an informal witnessing situation. He said that in the photo shoot he was wearing jeans but they coloured them in the mag to look like chino style trousers.
i wish I could find the photo - it goes back to the late 90s

Your donations at work: WT Farms “inspirational” corn maze
by betterdaze in“best life ever” is displayed at watchtower farms, near pine bush.
the jehovah’s witnesses' maze is a work of devotional art, and not intended for exploration like the pagan ones made for hudson valley tourists every halloween.

I'm not one for these subliminal images but it is isn't it? It's a giant knob.

This week's "Give Us Your Money" meeting item.
by freddo inif you went to it, (or go later this week) how was it handled?
just the video or some commentary too?.
i have heard of a few negative comments from some that attended - one jw even openly said to me "not very encouraging, all they go on about is money lately" and another (a serving elder, no less) said "someone's got to pay for all those lawsuits".

Just watched the segment from the meeting and noted a couple of points.
Firstly the premise of the video was that there a new way of donating via the website and this had raised some questions. I guess this could be a reasonable thing to discuss but of course much of the video was on the many other ways giving can be done, especially the end of life stuff which is the bigger ticket stuff in terms of value.
The other thing was that of course every Witness is going to die eventually. By encouraging EOL donations they are tapping into a source of income that reflects the failure of their own doctrine. I suspect the irony escapes the majority of course.

"Deficit" at JW Assembly
by cookiemaster ini've recently been at an assembly here in romania and there was an announced they were running a 10,000 euro deficit and urging all attendees to donate more money besides the already 5k has was donated during that day.
i really don't understand these things.
it's their own assembly hall.

I doubt it RO. It's very hard to prove since there are only verbal announcements and it would be very easy to demonstrate on paper that the assembly is indeed in deficit. It's how they justify to themselves they are not lying.
There is nothing preventing a charity from having income greater than expenses, indeed it's a pretty sensible fiscal policy.

Shunning: Extreme apathy!
by StephaneLaliberte ini thought i'd share this one with the group.
many years ago, my mom was disfellowshipped.
then, my sister passed away in a car accident, she was fairly young, as she was in her early 20s.

is armageddon starting ?

Yes - sorry Xant, I don't mean to be flippant about those that are affected and the deaths are tragic however I have a friend in Belfast atm and he says it's actually that serious there, just like a bad storm. The thing is it's hyped up as some kind of show stopping weather event but compared to the devastation that the proper hurricanes have brought to the Caribbean and southern US or the forest fires in California, this will have far less long term impact for the vast majority of people.
I am in the south east of the UK and there is hardly a strong wind, just a lovely red tinged deep cloud earlier.

Not withstanding the tragic deaths in Ireland, it is a bit like this overall...
