it's been a year since i started my job at wal-mart.

it has been an eye opening experience how they treat their workers.. here is one the ways they cut costs.

i was hired as a sales clerks which is the lowest paid position.

I wish more people would realize Wal-mart isn't what they claim to be. Here is a funny one: We had these large throw rugs in action alley. Each of the labels had a notch taken out of them. A customer came over and said :"Did you know Dollar General is selling these for $3.00 less than this? And the ones they have say DG up in the corner where that notch is."

And yes getting to take breaks and lunches is hard at times. I have worked with out getting a break, they have just enough people to cover areas and if someone doesn't show up, the remaining thinly spread out crew have to cover more areas. I read some place that Wal-mart's budget for operating costs are 16% while Sears budgets 24% and most places average 20%. Keeping labor cost low is the biggest way to keep their operating cost down. And that means more money for the Walton family.

Do you think they ever had to unload a truck? Or go several hours without being able to take a break, go to the bathroom, or eat or drink?

Yes, I'm making it a priority to shop other stores. Most of the American public is so brainwashed about Walmart. We're shopping ourselves to the poorhouse.

Ballistic: To give you an idea what the wages for these places are: most workers can put in a 40 hour week and qualify for food stamps, medicaid and other goverment aid. This would include unloaders as they start out a dollar more per hour than sales clerks. Cashiers get some kind of commision based on the # of items they scan. The faster they scan the more they make. Of course Wal-mart once again finds away around this by keeping just a few "official" cashiers on hand and cross training the lowly paid sales clerk to check during busy times. And the sales clerk/cashier doesn't get the commission.

And a lot of the workers there are working another job in addition to Wal-mart. Maybe their primary job was cut back in hours or wages or both. Or they have lost their main job through downsizing, lay-offs or closing and then are forced to work two jobs to keep up with their bills.

And a number of them have been through really difficult times. Been on welfare, filed bankruptcy, lost homes, vehicles and other pocessions. Wal-mart appears to be a white knight, giving them a job when they are so down and out. It almost seems to me like Wal-mart has a direct connection to the welfare office. But Wal-mart preys on their desperation, their fears of going homeless and hungry, and they feel forced to work wherever management sends them. After all there is a long line of people wanting to take their place.

And the Wal-mart commercials! they are on all the time and we are so sick of them. They are a big joke.

It's been a year since I started my job at Wal-mart. It has been an eye opening experience how they treat their workers.

Here is one the ways they cut costs. I was hired as a sales clerks which is the lowest paid position. It was fine, work was easy. Now they are taking the sales clerks and having them work a shift unloading the truck. Unloaders are paid more, they should be, the work is very hard. But since our "main job" is sales clerks, they get to have unloaders at a sales clerk price.

One of the ladies that I work with, went through living in a homeless shelter with her two kids, then got the job at Wal-mart, and is trying to get back on her feet. She is terrified of losing her job, so even though she didn't want to, she worked on the truck when they told her to go out there. After 4 hours, she came back to the sales floor filthy, sore and exhausted.

I have protested to the management that I cannot work on the truck. I am 48 years old, and not up to the physical work of unloading a truck, and I was hired to be a sales clerk, not an unloader. This was never mentioned at my interview. They said unless I bring in a note from my doctor, I am expected to unload the truck.

I am looking for a different job and hoping I can get out of Walmart. I'm hoping I get hired someplace else before they tell me it's my shift to work on the truck. I will refuse and most likely get fired. They really are evil. Next time you shop there, think about how they got their prices so low.

Older sisters and long hair- now a no-no?

ran into a jw yesterday who didn't mind talking to me.

she is 50+ and wears her hair long, about to the middle of her back.

she said she's been told by the brothers to cut her hair, that women her age should have short hair styles.

Any thoughts?

Sad News...

my mom had her valve replacement and triple by-pass surgery today.

the operation lasted five hours, and they had just gotten her to her room at 8:00pm when she went into cardiac arrest.

the doctor tried everything, even opening up her chest and massaging her heart.

Do you trust JW's?

i guess i'm asking in more of a business aspect?

or in any kind of dealings with them.....for example, because of their morals honesty is "supposed" to be practiced.

would you hire one because of this?

Having been on both sides of the fence, I would say I am not impressed by JWs as being honest. There are honest individuals in the group but I have found them to be the exception.

I have found that the witnesses create a loophole for dishonesty by using the "don't take a brother to court " scripture. This would be in dealings amongst themselves.

As far as worldly people, I remember talking to someone outside the organization. I explained to her all the things JW are taught about what the people in the world think of them. She laughed so hard, most people don't give JW's a single thought.

i could completely identify with anita hill.. one evening last week, i was in our break room with one young female associate and two young male associates.

Just another adventure in my returning to the work force.(Wal-mart) When I worked almost 2 decades ago, women just put up with whatever was said/done to them. I could completely identify with Anita Hill.

One evening last week, I was in our break room with one young female associate and two young male associates. One of the males made a very vulgar sexual comment to the female. The other male looked shocked but then both of them burst out in uncontrollable laughter. The female kept saying that's not funny. I sat there shocked.

I didn't mention the incident to anyone but it bothered me. I talked to a member of management the next day and said I was offended by a comment that a male associate had made. I had to make out a full report and talk to someone from home office.

They interviewed the other three. I got a chance to talk to the young female who told me the male associate often said things like that to her. Why would she put up with it? I saw the second male associate and he was very respectful to me. I haven't seen the male associate that made the comment, I don't know if they gave him some time off, or let him go.

I enjoy working in a clean environment and just couldn't see turning the clock back to the dark ages.

it's the 3 week countdown to my wedding.

i'm getting married on the 4th june to a fantastic guy who i love very much.

the thing is, i'm having "wedding nightmares" lol - i'll dream that i have nothing to wear on the day, or that i forgot where the wedding is being held.
