Joseph T. "Judge" Rutherford, a leader of the early Jehovah's Witness movement, was determined to put an end to the "Christian Pyramidology" espoused by his predecessor, Charles Taze Russell.
Rutherford wrote a two-part article —appearing in the November 15 and December 1, 1928 editions of the Watch Tower—titled, "The Altar in Egypt," wherein he declared:
It is certain that the pyramid of Gizeh was not built by Jehovah God; nor was it built at his command. It is more reasonable to conclude that the great pyramid of Gizeh, as well as the other pyramids thereabout, also the sphinx, were built by the rulers of Egypt and under the direction of Satan the Devil. Then Satan put his knowledge in dead stone, which may be called Satan's Bible, and not God's stone witness. In erecting the pyramid, of course, Satan would put in some truth, because that is his method of practicing fraud and deceit.
Satan is a wily Foe. He resorts to all manner of schemes to draw men away from Jehovah and his service. One of the most subtle schemes Satan has yet adopted to accomplish that purpose has been and is the use of the pyramid of Gizeh. There are those who rely upon the pyramid who claim to be of Christ and his followers. We now wonder why we ever believed in or devoted any time to the study of the pyramid of Gizeh. Not only will we abandon such a study now, but we will ask God to forgive us for wasting the time that we put in on it and redeem the time by hurrying on to obey his commandments.

Life is short and I'm gonna love it thread!
by poopsiecakes inso what are you doing to enjoy yourself?
doesn't have to be for anyone around you, or have anything to do with jw world.
just something that you do for you and only you and that fills your soul (whatever that means).

Great question. In fact, I had a neighbor ask me the same question last summer when we were over at his house for a cookout. Sittng around after a few beers, he asks me: so what is your passion (that is how they ask the question in Poland). I thought for a moment and it occured to me that I don't have one. Sad. He wouldn't accept that as an answer and kept pressing me. Finally his wife sensing my discomfort, made him stop. But the question stuck with me. Why don't I have anything that I am passionate about.
I like a wide variety of things and find enjoyment and beauty in even the simplest, smallest things but I've always been a bit of a generalist. I think being a JW also contributed to this in that we were always told to set our own interests aside for kingdom (WT) interests - you will have time for pursuing your interests in the new system. So no hobbies, sports, advanced education for me. Right.
Now I'm out and at 57 trying to find out what I should have discovered many decades ago. Damn. If I was back in the states I would probably go back to school for me and study biology at the micro, unicellular level.

Looks like in one of the 'comments' at the selling site , the person is complaining because the answers are based on the old NWT and not the current 'new, beautiful version'.

No more literature counters?
by konceptual99 inthere is a thread on jwtalk suggesting that the latest hall designs do not feature a literature desk.
the dubs will pick up gear from a self serve kiosk in the hall, just enough for their immediate needs.. time will tell if this is true but if so then it relfects the reducing emphasis on printed material.
also, i think there is another by product.

In the last congregation I attended in Poland, there was no literature counter. They put your stuff in you little cubby (name labeled) and you picked it up (or didn't). Probably another way for the more holy to judge you - Oh look at that Bro S hasn't picked up his mags in several weeks, he must be weak. We should avoid him.
As opposed to: maybe we should call Bro S. I haven't seen him in a while.
Note: you can't bring their mags to them, they have to pick them up (from what I last heard)...

Dancing with the Stars vs Friday evening service meeting
by FadeToBlack inso funny.
last week (start of new season for dws in poland - apparently still very popular) my wife did not feel so well, so she stayed home.
but, she was well enough to watch the entire show as opposed to going to bed to rest.

ks, I hear you. That is why I can only handle popping in for a few minutes from time to time. Gotta feed the fire. Maybe I should propose some dance lessons (on Friday nights, after the current season of DWTS is over of course). I can tell her I already paid for the lessons up front and we have to go. I know she would really prefer it over another boring meeting. Good exercise too!

US World Power: Time Running Out
by metatron inhttp://www.businessinsider.com/chart-rise-and-fall-of-modern-empires-2014-9.
tick tock...... forget about that daniel image/prophecy stuff.
the process is being accelerated by trying to sanction russia, as they draw closer to china and thereby build an alternative economic system( including a swift banking arrangement of their own).

I hate to break the bad news to you 'Ucantnome' but the british emipire ended some time ago. US is fading fast. Of course, like all empires they don't like to go quietly into the night, so I would expect some major conflicts over access to resources in the near future. They come, they over extend themselves, they go...

So funny. Last week (start of new season for DWS in Poland - apparently still very popular) my wife did not feel so well, so she stayed home. It happens, we are old. But, she was well enough to watch the entire show as opposed to going to bed to rest. Today, when I come home from work (after 7PM) I see the car in the driveway and I know what is going on. She didn't even offer up any excuse and I didn't ask. She had a good meal prepared for me, and we watched the first dance together and discussed it. I'm going back to the house in a few minutes to make her a nice drink to enjoy with the rest of her show and may pop in to ask a few questions from time to time. So far, the score is DWS 2, WT.org 0. Next week should be interesting. I'm betting on 3-0.

Enjoy it, but don't let the 'fun' part take command. Keep focused, have fun. All things in balance. I got my degree in Computer Science (finally) in 1984 after droppng out in 1977 because of having too much fun.

Still waiting for my prayers to be answered or understanding to be RE-Adjusted!
by NoMoreHustle inso about 2 years ago when i started to feel like something was wrong with the religion (jw cult) i was in, i was told by close friend to just study more & pray incessantly to jehovah!.
well after careful consideration of the steps to re-build my faith in jw cult, i would have to say that after more rigorous study & prayer than ever before in the history of mankind, nothing answered, no new enlightment!.
except for me figuring out that it is a scam!

Not much consolation, but 20 is better than 30+. Get on with it. Still some time to live if you came in early. I'm already in the geezer stage, but at least I am free.
