This is one book that I am keeping for reference - as in: this is what we used to believe (or teach). -

Start A Butterfly Garden!

take in a breath of fresh air and be healed by the wonders of nature around you.. how many of you have a garden?
how many have a nice flower patch to go with your vegetable garden?

Another good crop to grow is plain old sunflowers. Even if they don't turn out well enough for you to bother, the birds will be happy. They seem to do well even in crappy soil. -

Did you go to your ASSIGNED congregation?
by Zoos inthe rule was (is) that you go to your assigned congregation.. growing up, i think our family was in our assigned congregation only one of three times.
the family made two major moves when i was a kid and each time my folks would visit the various congregations in the area and pick the one with the most kids.
given our association restrictions with the world, they wanted to make sure we had plenty of friends.. i have to give them credit where due.

Most recently, no. I was helping my wife take care of her mother (post stroke) and it was just too inconvienent. Never was an issue for us. Her mother has been gone for a while and my wife still attends out of territory. I think in many cases Polish people view rules and laws as suggestions. Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't. -

Could I count a vintage video clip of Clapton or Hendrix in action? I think they are both about as close to being a god as we are going to get. I also like Mozart, but can't find any videos of him.
Below placements it just says: Video showings. It doesn't say what you have to show.

No Sports Cars Please!
by snugglebunny ini read on a jw forum that jw's came in for disapproval if they drove either sports cars or 2-door cars.
the reasoning was that a driver couldn't easily take fellow dubbies out preaching in such a vehicle.
was that ever official policy or just local nonsense from a grumpy po?.

I still remember the exact words of an older Japanese pioneer we had in our congregation when she saw my new 2 door - "Why you buy selfish car?". She was well known for her 'direct' approach. -

Magnum. Enjoy your meal. No need to apologize. I think a creative writing thread dedicated to JA (in off Topic/Humour) would be interesting. The ground rules would be that it has to be a true story, but you write it in such a way that nobody believes you. Note: I'm not suggesting that his stories are true, just entertaining. -

Magnum - we must be like 2 ships passing in the night. I thought I made it clear with the (only it is true) part that the story/account would be true, only posted in JA's style. For emphasis: I was proposing to write a story that was true, but done is such a style that many would call me out on it as not possibly being true. Note: I am attempting (perhaps not so well) to inject some humour into this tempest in a teapot thread.
That is why I suggested we should start a thread with JA style type stories. It it easy to recognize authors style (Dickens, Hemingway) but difficult to replicate. Why don't you have a go at it. Start the thread.

Thanks for clearing that up for me Magnum. I always suspected that I lacked insight and comprehension.
I was proposing to write a true story in JA's style and then wait to see how many people told me it couldn't be true.

Ok. I'm going to start a thread with a story done in JA style (only it is true) and then you all can tell me if it happened or not. Maybe we should start another thread and ask for entries done in the JA style and vote later for a winner. -

I don't mean to sound naive, but why would someone make up such stories? Attention whore or Bethel troll? Why bother?
