Was the GB thing part of their standard presentation or reserved for inactive ones?

The GB wants us to read this bible passage to you!
by StephaneLaliberte ini had a brother visit me yesterday to invite me to the memorial.
as usual, despite the unspoken passive aggressiveness, i was polite,.
anyway, this year, he started his presentation by saying: "the governing body (gb) wants us to read this bible passage to you!

Life is changing for me: no pioneering, got a job!
by Skepsis ina month ago i decided to register in this board.
i had decided to step down pioneering but was frightened about the consequences.
i had finished my university degree some months before (despite disaproval from brothers in my congregation) and i had to choose: continue pioneering and working in jobs with no future or starting a career, working full-time.. i was thinking to postpone the decisiton but... i was fed up with preaching.

Thanks for the update. Being 'abroad' for business is such a great way to fade from their radar.

To those taking a stand and not attending the Memorial tonight
by doubtfull1799 ini salute you.
many of you, like me, are probably under enormous emotional pressure, whether from a lingering false sense of guilt from your indoctrination, whether from "invitations," and assumptions that you'll naturally be coming, or whether from outright emotional blackmail, even begging and pleading.
i am thinking of you whoever you are, all of you, even though i don't know you in person.

My wife came back from the memorial and informed me she was moving out. Today she seems to be back to normal. I guess I could have gone just to appease her, but for once in my life I wanted not to cave to the pressure. Looks like I survived...

Also not going again this year. Haven't been since the version a few years ago that was basically an infomercial for the jw.org thing. Last weekend, my wife had some friends over and as expected on the way out they left me with an invitation. Last night, my wife asked if I was going and got very upset when I said no. She said she would have never married me, if she knew it was going to turn out like this. And added she was going to move-out if I could not even manage to make the memorial. You already know what my first thought was, but I kept control.
This is on top of several weeks ago being told I had 'obviously' been taken over by Satan and his demons.
As an aside: does anyone know if the jw's have always celebrated a memorial? Was it started in this form back in Russel's day?

uggh. I would suspect that it would be Morris by default if they wanted to do this for some reason simply by process of elimination - not that he is the JW pope. Let us go down the list of GB candidates.
1. Lett - no way in hell.
2. Gerrit Lösch - nope. bad hair and he is not American.
3. Mark Sanderson - no. he is the newboy. too much overlapping baggage.
4. Samuel F. Herd - no way token black guy is on the cover.
5. Geoffrey William Jackson - no. might lead back to Australian RC if googled.
6. David H. Splane - same category as Lett. not going to happen.
that leaves: AMIII

Cooking With Cast Iron
by Simon ini can't even remember what got me interested in pans, probably wanting to try cooking more and watching some cooking videos on youtube, but i kind of started wanting to get a cast-iron skillet specifically so started reading up on them.
hey, if you're going to spend $50 on something you need to study them and create a comparison spreadsheet ... right?.
not only did cast-iron look great for cooking but there are some studies that show risks to aluminium / teflon cookware ... not that the wts was "right" about aluminium, but teflon can give off carcinogenic chemicals if overheated (so what if it chips off into your food?).

The Polish Effect on JW Europe statics
by Viva la Vida inaccording to the 2017 yearbook there was an important reduction of publishers in poland (over 2,000) and small increases in countries like uk, ireland, germany and norway.
i thought that there might be something more than just people leaving jw in eastern europe and joining in western europe, so i checked in jw.org the number of polish language congregations outside of poland.
as you can see below germany, the uk, ireland and norway have a lot of polish congregations.

From my own recent experience - I have seen several families move to Scotland from my wife's congregation. I was also happy to see a young couple from the English-speaking congregation move to Norway (wife was Norwegian). It mostly seems to be for economic reasons (or in a few cases, a chance to fade away and try to live a normal life).
