I'm getting baptized
by BlackWolf ini know i've started similar topics before but this time i'm serious.
my parents have been constantly pressuring me and after yesterday's watchtower study they asked me if i was going to be baptized this summer... and i said yes.
i probably should have thought about it more before making a final decision, but they're pretty much forcing me to do it anyway.

Tell them that you have thought a lot about this and have decided to wait wait until you are legally recognized as an adult (probably at least 18) before making such an important decision. Are you in the US or EU? If in the EU, please feel free to come and visit us. We have the space and can cover your expenses for a while. My wife is still in but getting more liberal by the day. -

No historical evidence for bronze age men living to 500yrs old?
by purrpurr inthe bible tells us that noah etc lived to 500yrs old as did many other characters who lived apparently to incredible years.. yet archaeological research tells us from looking at skeletons that have been dug up that the average lifespan was very short.
if a man got to the age of 50 they would have considered that quite an achievement.
when i was in i always wondered about this?

I always thought it humorous how the WT scoffed at the ages mentioned in the Sumerian King's list even though Sumerian scholars recognize that the vast ages must have been concocted to agree with some other agenda or were simply bad translations of Sumerian numbering systems from earlier times.
After all, believing in a 1000 year old man is much more reasonable than believing in a 10,000 or 100,000 year old man, right?

Funny that this came up because I have an active JW that still visits me for conversational English lessons (even though I haven't been to a meeting for some time) and he disclosed that he is really into Batman. He even started a blog about it. He gave me the link, but later asked me not to tell anyone about it.
I don't like to break my word, but I assume he meant other JW's that we might know.

Maybe the plan is to make it look like CVS/Walgreens/etc so it will be easier to flip later. Hey, but at least it has windows, so nobody can complain about that. All I can say is ugly. But perhaps that is appropriate and fits in with the rest of the American big box, strip mall architecture style. -

Health, fitness and recovery advice
by SecretSlaveClass ini hope this is okay with you simon, but since i've noticed the number of forum members looking to discuss or seek advice on various health issues i thought it would be a good idea to start a thread dedicated to this topic alone.
any discussions or advice on these matters could be put here where any and all would be welcome to jump in with any help they could offer.
i am working on the first questions at the moment taken from the cognac/morpheus weight loss thread.

Thanks for the stretching tips. We have a balcony just outside so I will try to go out there more frequently. Now that the weather is nice, I also go for a good after-lunch walk. As a bonus, there are some free standing exercise machines in the park. -

Memorial Audience Filled with Unbelieving Mates and Other Miserable Relatives
by xjwsrock ini looked around my hall and saw so many miserable unbelieving mates and relatives it was actually funny.
they were in a glazed-over stupor.
they looked liked children forced to go to an opera.

I have to agree about the benefits of starting to work out again. My wife and I started going to a local community-center gym once a week. We go on nights where it is not so crowded. On Tuesday and Thursday there are maybe 10 other people there and we pay about $2-3 per visit. If we want to buy a card, we can reduce that to about $1.
My wife mostly does cardio but will probably start doing some light weight work soon. I do about 50/50. I am 59 and my wife is older. We both feel great when we come back and after a shower, it often leads to other things. We are both still in decent shape, but want to get the metabolism going. I spend too much time in front of a computer (for work) and want to get flexible again...

Welcome and thanks for sharing. A lot of us (guys) need to know what might work and what doesn't. Enjoy the rest of your WT-free life...
