I disagree, Charles Tart's experiments were conducted under controlled conditions. So were those conducted by Gary E Schwartz. All you are saying is that they don't satisfy you, which is your right.

Evidence of Supernatural Ability
by GromitSK ini would be interested to hear members' views on:.
a) what they would consider to be a supernatural ability and.
b) what they would consider sufficient evidence to convince them it was genuine.. (it's late here so if i don't participate for the next few hours don't think i cut and run :)).

You ignore the entire post and pick on that one line cofty. Why don't you discuss the rest of my post with me?

Gromit, many studies have been done into the paranormal and consciousness - eg Charles Tart's experiments, if we must, as you say swop researchers' names.
If you study a history of science course at university level you will find that much of what we call science was developed by amateurs, Darwin among them. Many amateur naturalists and geologists contributed to the theory of evolution in the nineteenth century.
Hence my suggestion to get out there and find out for yourself. Over the centuries very few discoveries have been made by scientists in labs. That is a fallacy I'm afraid.
I am totally on topic, I am just looking at the subject very broadly.

Do you know why she did that cofty? Because when she was a student she had what she described as an out of body experience. It didn't fit with what she 'believed' as a rationalist so she spent her life trying to prove it was all in her mind. Her conclusions are up to her. They prove nothing to me.
I am a little tired of people telling me what is reality. Been there done that etc etc.

I hope this isn't going to turn into another atheists versus believers thread - I might die of boredom. Your op is interesting Gromit. Someone said on here that evidence for the supernatural doesn't stand up under test conditions. Neither does string theory. There is absolutely no way to test or prove string theory - yet.
Go out and meet the psychics and mediums, listen to what they say. They don't work in labs but what they say is fascinating. Test it for yourself, it is a personal scientific experiment. We don't have to make anyone else believe it- we're not in field service now.

I went to see a psychic perform in a local pub. At one point she came to me and asked for a piece of jewellery to hold. I gave her the necklace I was wearing that my daughter had given me for a mother's day present. She then asked me if I knew anyone by the name of ********** , which was my daughter's name.
There was no throwing out name after name or trying to get me to feed her information. Just my daughter's name straight away and then a fact about something she did in the recent past.

If you can see it with your eye and take a picture its going to displace something to make itself visible
You seem to think this is scientific but I can't find any evidence for it, StoneWall, not in displacement theory anyway. If it even moved air how would you know after the fact?
Remember the burden of proof is always on the one making the claim. (In this case someone claiming a picture of a ghost)
Well what I asked was what if someone put a clear photo of a 'ghost' on the internet, what would everyone say? This was in reply to your post that the 'proofs' people have are always fuzzy photos.
There being no evidence according to photography experts that it was a faked photo, you say you would need 'residue' or the ghost would have to reproduce itself as if it was doing a scientific experiment.
That is the proof you would need. Otherwise, you say, the photographer is imagining it (and a damn good photographer).
Anyways I'm headed to bed but if you ever see a ghost or goblin, angel or demon, little green men from mars etc send them my way - that's a bit ad hominem isn't it?
Night, night.

StoneWall
'Physical creatures leave something behind everywhere they go even if not intended, such as footprints, fingerprints, blood, mucus, urine etc. so it would only be natural to assume that whatever this "Ghost" was that it left something behind.'
'If there was indeed a "ghost" or something in that area then it should be able to reproduce itself or left residual of some form from its earlier encounter. The principle of displacement would not allow "nothing" to take the place of where something used to be.'
These are assumptions, StoneWall, we have no clue what a ghost may or may not leave behind. Displacement has nothing to do with this situation. Why should it leave residue? Why should it be able to reproduce itself - is it a scientist-ghost trying to prove something?

vangogh, I have that book too, it belonged to my husband. We both loved astronomy.
