Black sheep of the family-my life as an ExJW
by bsand20 ini was a 3rd generation jw, half the congregation i attended was made up of my entire mom's side of the family, 2 of the 3 elders were my grandpa and uncle.
my first memory of the organization was when they announced my mom's name in the meeting saying she had been reinstated....it was 1988 and i was 6 years old....i didn't understand it then, but when i asked my mom why was she crying and why did they say her name in the meeting, she said "it's because i've been good!".
so she went back and after a period of time assisting constantly, she was reinstated.

Whats the difference between a rank and file member and a G.B.member .
by smiddy inand r.& f. member , initially beleived with our whole soul that jehovahs witnesses had the ultimate truth over every other religion .. the differences between the g.b.
members and the r&f members is simply this.
members are given power and authourity by the r.&f members to dictate to them what they should beleive through new light revelations.

The GB know that they have stolen ideas from Christendom like the ransom sacrifice of Jesus and pretented that they were given it, through holy spirit. How would an ordinary person who has not studied theology or been in another church know this? They know that they take verses in the Bible out of context to say whatever they want. They know that they quote mine from scientists and archaologists to make science look bad and the Bible look good. They know about all the power playing among the GB but the r+f know nothing of this and just think they are wonderful Christians.

Welcome alwaysthinking. Glad you made it here. You're right, this religion is all about appearances and very little else.

Somebody had to step up for this baby

This religion, it seems to want to tear people's hearts out. This lovely new baby about to die because of some old men in America's interpretation of a 2000 year old book. What do those old men have to do with a couple in twenty-first century Birmingham and a woman who went through hours of pain to bring this child into the world?

Are they down to two meetings a week and standing mute next to a literature trolley one hour a month?
by Xanthippe intrying to get a handle on what they do now, my two sisters and brother and families.
a three day convention in the summer is it, circuit assembly twice a year?
when i was in people were supposed to do ten hours field service a month at least.

Thanks guys, I didn't know it was only pioneers who did the trolley thing or that CAs are only one day now. My husband and I used to say this religion would have to become less demanding on people's time or it would not survive.

When I was in people were supposed to do ten hours field service a month at least. Now I've seen them standing next to those literature trolleys in town saying nothing to anyone. Pioneering was 100 hours a month then 90 before I left. Seems like they have eased up a little on the demands on your time, but more rules about shunning and how to live your life. Am I right?

Profiling of an apostate
by joe134cd ini must admit when i was in, the idea i had of an apostate, was an angry bitter person who would picket out side a convention.
i was looking on jwservey and found on the respondents to a servey that 54% were either active members or fading members.
this made me wonder is the organisation underestimating the extent of apostasy.

Thanks blondie for that quote. How horrific that witnesses have to have their 'thinking readjusted', if they have a question about a teaching that they cannot swallow. Sounds like something from a totalitarian prison camp. From what people report a JC is just like that with people trying to talk about beliefs and use the bible and over and over again they keep being asked do you believe in the organisation. Horrible, if you don't recant you're out but they keep your family hostage, out of love.
So by that definition if you have problems with teachings of the WTS and how they fit with the Bible and you want to talk about them, even to elders, then you are an apostate.

Thanks WTBS for changing the Kingdom Songs, you freed me!
by StephaneLaliberte inyesterday, i saw a picture of a family signing kingdom melodies together.
it made me realize a fact that i am somewhat ashamed to admit:.
for over a decade, i have been aware of the false prophecies, the deceptive statements, the lack of scriptural support for many core practices and other issues with the witnesses.

Why would anyone change song lyrics unless they are part of cult indoctrination.

Is there anything you could do forever that wouln't get boring?
by mynameislame innot sure when i came to this conclusion but i can't imagine living forever.
after a while i think i would be completly bored with everything.. not saying i wouln't like to live for a few hundred years or maybe even a few thousand if i could travel through space and discover other universes star trek style.
but the thought of living forever sounds like it would eventually become a complete drag.. maybe i'm wrong, maybe after a thousand years or so you would foregt all the stuff that happend at the beginning and just start over in an infinite loop..
