I just think why didn't he use the opportunity to ask one question perhaps about overlapping generations or Candace Conti, just to record the reaction for the web? Yoga pants? Just a wasted opportunity. -

Jehovahs Chariot ... as driven by the GB
by Simon insomeone mentioned "jehovahs chariot is on the move" on another topic and i immediately had flashbacks to those articles where they tried to explain how a chariot could have wheels that went in every direction and also had eyes, something idiotic.. i had a chuckle because the image that then popped into my head when i thought about those wheels going every direction was not one of those clever honda devices with the clever wheel thingy - no, it was a supermarket trolley.
you know the ones where one or two of the wheels wobbly and have a mind of their own and typically want to veer off suddenly into an elaborate display of tinned food?.
that is jehovahs chariot as driven by the governing body.

When I hear that expression keeping up with Jehovah's chariot it makes me angry because phrases like that are all about go faster, faster, you are falling behind. How could anyone on foot keep up with a chariot unless they ran like hell?
So many of these kind of phrases are designed to make people feel they are too slow, not doing enough. Do you remember that kingdom song that had the phrase 'quicken the pace' in it and other phrases about doing more and doing it faster. Can't remember which one it was now. Words set to music are even more dangerous because they go straight into the unconscious mind.
Is it any wonder these people are burnt out, exhausted and constantly ill?

Hi Garrett, I left 26 years ago and I do join in with most of the holidays now. The first year we didn't celebrate Christmas because we still thought of it as being of pagan origin, but we put up a tree and bought each other little presents the following year. Now I buy Easter eggs, birthday presents and I let my daughter go to Halloween parties.
Why? I was so damaged growing up as a JW and not being able to join in holidays at school. We are social animals, we need other people. I decided to let my daughter feel normal, not weird, 'no part of the world'! We are a part of the world, trying to be separate was very bad for us psychologically.
Does it matter that things have pagan or even Christian origins? I no longer believe in God and I see religion anthropologically, it was part of the development of humanity, it helped people cope with the harsh realities of life.
It's fun being'normal' and joining in. Many holidays have become commercialised but I just join in as much as I want to and leave whatever I don't like. I can also be relaxed at work during holidays, give cards, eat mince pies, have a birthday drink with colleagues, go to the Christmas party. As an ex- JW it has made my life so much easier now.

Wishing you lots of luck Gorby. My husband and I took a complete break for twenty years after we left. We needed to put it all behind us because we found it so painful. When you believe it all and work your socks off it hurts doesn't it. I wish you well, have an amazing life

Thankyou tv.jw! you are helping my wife wake up!
by stuckinarut2 ini have to thank tv.jw!!!

Thanks Vanderhoven. Started watching the beginning because I didn't realise that ridiculous song was at the end. Anyway Herd says people think just because we have unity of thought we are brainwashed. He said we have had our brains washed from the complicated doctrines to find the simplicity of truth. Can't believe he said that. Let's keep it simple folks, we're all too stupid to understand anything else. What an admission.
Good news about your wife Stuck. May they keep shooting themselves in the foot!

WHATSGOINGON thank you for answering my question of several days ago, where did the film come from and did the GB approve it. So it looks like it was privately done and shared outside bethel without the GBs approval. Still find it odd that with all the effort needed to get the cooperation of all those departments and 900 participants, this was just meant for bethel. Or does he mean it was just meant for JWs, more indoctrination for the R + F , we are the happiest people in the world blah, blah, blah, only it got out on the web? -

"Religion gives us the Why"
by Phizzy ini have heard this nonsense said by many believers, especially when science conflicts with their belief, they say:.
" well, science may tell us how we got here, religion tells us why we are here".
does religion tell us that ?

I like making up my own purpose. It changes over the years. At differerent times I have been obsessed with leaving home, finding a partner, having a child, getting a degree, finding the job I really wanted to do. At the moment I want to get the damn garden straight and looking beautiful. I would also like to visit as many countries as I can before I am too old.
Some people are obsessed with collecting stamps, playing the bagpipes or breeding chihuahuas. Each to their own.
There's no need to feel lost without religion telling us why we are here. I would hate someone to tell me what the purpose of my life should be now. The thought of some religious leader telling me why I'm here and what I have to do for my life to have purpose horrifies me.

Something JWs don't understand how to do
by enigma1863 ini had to share this quote.
it reminds me of trying to reason with jws.
you can only go so far before they shut down.. .

Absolutely, at the very least you can better understand the person who has introduced the idea to you. Perhaps you might begin to have a whole new perspective on life if you entertain a thought you might previously have dismissed out of hand. Where would philosophy and theoretical physics be without the thought experiment.
