The Theory Of Everything
by 88JM inquestion: should able-bodied actors play characters with disabilities?.
i got myself into a bit of a quandary over a discussion on a facebook group.
it was partly based on this article in the guardian:.

Stephen actually developed the disease as a young man of 21 doing his PhD and not later in life. I read that he is one of the two people in the world who has survived motor neurone disease for more than two or three years. How would they find a similarly disabled actor if the progression is usually so fast? -

The Watchtower Society bases its "new light" concept on the scripture at Proverbs 4:18 ("The path of the righteous one gets brighter....") Where is the scriptural precedent to show that Jehovah gave false information as a temporary, stop-gap solution until the true and accurate information was made available?
The context of Proverbs chapter 4 is a comparison between the path of the righteous one and the path of the wicked one. It isn't about prophecy. - OzGirlAbsolutely right, I've pointed this out before. Proverbs 4:18 is about the life of a righteous person becoming lighter because they are doing the right thing and the life of a wicked person becoming darker because they do wicked things. Not rocket science is it? It's not about prophecy starting off dark and becoming easier to understand. As ever they take a verse completely out of context.

I agree they don't deserve honesty having lied to millions of people for over a hundred years. Play the game, just don't get caught while trying to fade if you need to keep in with JW family that's all I was saying. -

There is no reason why you couldn't manufacture 90 hours a month while going to college.
Although people might find it strange you are never out in FS wouldn't they? Just sayin....

Go to college, have fun, learn stuff, qualify for a decent job to give you a decent standard of living, travel, explore, create.
or
Be a cabbage for Jesus and live in poverty.
Hmm tough choice.
Oh and Morpheus before you pipe up again it's satire, I know.

Am I wasting my life on this rubbish?!
I am so sorry but if she is so afraid of Armageddon that she still attends the Memorial and panics when it thunders she will raise your children as JWs. When a woman becomes a mother all she can think about is that baby's survival. It's why we have been so successful as a species.
If to your partner survival still means appeasing Jehovah, you know what she will do. I am sorry this is so hard but you really need to talk to her about what she believes now. Good luck.

They quote the Mosaic law whenever it suits them, women should not dress like men from Deuteronomy something - who cares which verse. They are not under the Law of Moses why the heck do they keep using it?
Why don't they keep the sabbath too? When I was in Sundays were completely exhausting, FS and meeting on the same day. Are they going to start putting rebellious teenagers to death too as in the Law?

Do Jehovah's Witnesses Shun?
by lurkernomore injust checked the faq on jw.org as i wanted to show a df'd friend of ours how dishonest they were being about thier shunning policy.. well don't you know they've only gone and got honest about shunning df'd ones:.
'we do not automatically disfellowship someone who commits a serious sin.
if, however, a baptized witness makes a practice of breaking the bibles moral code and does not repent, he or she will be shunned or disfellowshipped.

The difference is that people who leave because they can't accept the teachings anymore are not breaking the Bible's moral code but they are still shunned. Bet it doesn't say that on JW.BOrg. -

I just think why didn't he use the opportunity to ask one question perhaps about overlapping generations or Candace Conti, just to record the reaction for the web? Yoga pants? Just a wasted opportunity. -

Jehovahs Chariot ... as driven by the GB
by Simon insomeone mentioned "jehovahs chariot is on the move" on another topic and i immediately had flashbacks to those articles where they tried to explain how a chariot could have wheels that went in every direction and also had eyes, something idiotic.. i had a chuckle because the image that then popped into my head when i thought about those wheels going every direction was not one of those clever honda devices with the clever wheel thingy - no, it was a supermarket trolley.
you know the ones where one or two of the wheels wobbly and have a mind of their own and typically want to veer off suddenly into an elaborate display of tinned food?.
that is jehovahs chariot as driven by the governing body.

When I hear that expression keeping up with Jehovah's chariot it makes me angry because phrases like that are all about go faster, faster, you are falling behind. How could anyone on foot keep up with a chariot unless they ran like hell?
So many of these kind of phrases are designed to make people feel they are too slow, not doing enough. Do you remember that kingdom song that had the phrase 'quicken the pace' in it and other phrases about doing more and doing it faster. Can't remember which one it was now. Words set to music are even more dangerous because they go straight into the unconscious mind.
Is it any wonder these people are burnt out, exhausted and constantly ill?
