How Do You Feel About All The Time You Wasted Being. A Jehovah's Witness?

Think of yourself as an asylum seeker. You've got away from that totalitarian country, you're not being tortured any more. This country where you are now will let you be free. If you need help to forget the torture then get counselling. You have 20, 30, 40 years left to do whatever you want. Enjoy! -

I wonder if you can be spiritual and religious at the same time??
by Deltawave inok again i would like to apologise as i did come across preachy.
i am not going to debate whether or not i am a bk as you have your opinions either way.
what i was trying to write though was my thoughts and feelings which i hope don't offend anyone on this forum.

Neither do I attribute any of these things to a personage or unseen thingy. So we agree, well apart from the girl parts thing.

The more we allow our feelings and emotions to control us the longer religion and 'spirituality' will continue to imprison us and keep us from evolving as a species.
Well thanks for trying to clarify DJS although I'm still not sure what you mean but you know emotion makes people get their wallet out when they see children with pot bellies on the TV. Is the camera team trying to manipulate our emotions? Yes of course they are but for a really good reason. They could just say in a voice over, send money for Ethiopia, Sudan, whatever and give you a website and phone number.
The sensible and controlled thing might be to say I can't afford it but thankfully many people are moved by their emotions to help others.
However I was talking about enjoying art with all of our emotions. I hope you think that is compatible with rational living?

DJS sounds as though you may be frightened of 'self induced emotions'. People listen to music, look at art or beautiful scenery and read literature or poetry to produce emotions called happiness, pleasure, joy, nothing to do with superstition. You are getting hung up on labels. The word spirituality is just a word, if you google synonyms for happiness is lists high spirits.

I recommend poetry by W B Yeats, Keats, Shelley, Robert Frost and Emily Dickinson. You might enjoy C G Jung's autobiography Memories, Dreams, Reflections. You might find wondering around an art gallery lifts your spirits or perhaps you'd prefer a walk in the woods or near mountains.
When I left the JWs my spirit was starving for nourishment. I agree the idea that running microphones or giving out leaflets is somehow spiritual is ludicrous. The neglect of the people is, I agree, appalling. You would find volunteering for a charity much more rewarding. Your local library should be able to help you with volunteering opportunities in the area. Or just google it.
I understand the happiness that meditation brings. I was first taught it by Buddhist monks in saffron robes but the teachings afterward put me off. Western Buddhism is similar to Christianity. Personally I look for spirituality without religion now.

The human spirit needs art, beauty, poetry, music, literature and to experience different cultures around the world. To raise us up from the everyday humdrum existence, to make us think, feel deeply and to fill us with the desire to improve this beautiful planet so that everyone can enjoy it instead of many spending their days scratching out an existence and unable to think of anything but their empty bellies. -

Are you religious or are you spiritual? Wake up to what?
by Deltawave inthere is a huge difference between been religious and been spiritual.
been religious is about been superior to others in the sight of god.
however, been spiritual is about self awareness, inner peace and unity with the natural world.

Deltawave has on a recent thread described accurately the Watchtower discussion at the meeting. He is not Brahma Kumaris, just a JW trying to leave and looking for help. Disgusted! He can't even spell! He is not a threat. -

Ah right Mother's Day, I see, we did that back in March. I actually miss my mother now even though she was very critical. I think she had depression for years because of being in that cult. Or perhaps she got sucked in because she had depression. Chicken and egg. Anyway she's not suffering anymore and for that I'm glad. I just wish we could have been friends.
