It's whatever you want it to be punky. Personally I've just finished work for six days and I'm doin' nowt for six days, I'm absolutely shattered. So I'm going to read and watch telly. Wonderful! I'm making a roast dinner on Xmas day because we like roasties and pud. My daughter's a vegetarian so we're having goats cheese tart with it. Nobody's coming round which suits me, feet up, large glass of wine or three. Had four meals out with friends and relatives this month, it was fun. Do whatever you want to punky, that's the great thing you can choose now! -

She sent me 'Return to Jehovah' I sent her a Christmas card
by Xanthippe init just felt so good to say to a jw i don't feel the guilt this booklet says i must be feeling.
i don't feel guilty for having a great big christmas tree or letting my daughter have birthdays, easter eggs, dress up at halloween, have sleepovers and friends, i told her.
i only feel guilty about not contributing to live aid and bandaid and giving the money to a cult instead.

Does Jehovah Intervene - JW Teaching
by thedepressedsoul ini have been a jw my whole life and i have never been able to get a clear answer on this question.
jw's do not believe that jehovah will intervene if someone is sick, dying or stopping a car crash.
they feel that jehovah is letting "this world" play out before he solves all of these problems.

I pioneered for 10 years, my husband for 15. When we left we were in debt because when we were short of money we had to use a credit card. We lived in near poverty watching every penny. Jehovah does not provide for pioneers I assure you, it's a myth. Don't believe those convention stories.
There were people who were kind to us and gave us meals. Some people gave us a meal every week. The credit should go to those good people, not to a god.
These stories are just designed to get more people working for them instead of going to college where they would become far too clever to take that nonsense any more.

In 1992 I was attending a philosophy lecture at my summer school at Reading university when a student asked the professor what he thought was the most worrying problem in the world. He answered that a religion that promised martyrs would be attended by 72 virgins in the afterlife really worried him most of all. Not out of touch with reality at all. -

Schrodinger's cat is a thought experiment in Physics, specifically quantum mechanics. Yeah they brought that up last time, they thought they were making fun of philosophy. -

That depends on how broadly you are defining philosophy xant...
Much of what passes for philosophy is nothing more than mental masturbation and obscurantism.Do you know the literal meaning of claptrap? An artifice for winning applause. Using bollocks or masturbation will get attention every time.

Try googling Atomists. Philosophy deduced the existence of fundamental particles thousands of years ago. That's the power of thought and logic, which is how philosophy works. -

Gawd I didn't think this was funny three years ago , can't remember who posted , may have been OTWO. Philosophy is about why we act the way we do. It's about crime and punishment, racism, sexism, human rights , animal rights. How may times! Have you read any?
Where do you think we get empiricism from?

Thank you freddo.
LHG I agree all these weird things they do, stopping us joining in with holidays, are all designed to separate us from our non-JW friends and relatives who would help us keep away from this cult if only we weren't taught to alienate them!

It just felt so good to say to a JW I don't feel the guilt this booklet says I must be feeling. I don't feel guilty for having a great big Christmas tree or letting my daughter have birthdays, Easter eggs, dress up at Halloween, have sleepovers and friends, I told her. I only feel guilty about not contributing to Live Aid and Bandaid and giving the money to a cult instead. Where in this booklet does it list as a reason for leaving, having done masses of research and no longer able to conscientiously stay in a religion they no longer believe in?
I said seven men in Brooklyn should feel guilty for telling me not to go to university when it was FREE! One time she wrote she said did I feel forced to pioneer? Of course I did, every meeting and assembly. They actually used the words blood guilt on me, like I'm a murderer if I don't do it! Didn't her husband feel the same when he went to Bethel?
Ended with Deuteronomy 18:20-22 about the prophets who speak falsely and deserve death. Wished her well and hoped they don't work her too hard or frighten her with their prophecies. It ends with 'you must not get frightened at him' in the NWT. Sent my love and popped the letter in a Christmas card.
