GrreatTeacher your dark purple, almost black tulips sound very striking. You should have some in the house. Did you know the tulip is the only flower that keeps growing taller when you cut them and put them in water? -

What do Muslims Really Think - UK Documentary
by cofty inchannel 4 have commissioned a study into attitudes among british muslims.. the documentary starts in an hour from now at 10pm.
if you watch it live or on 4od please share your thoughts.. unlike many other surveys of muslim opinion, which have predominantly been done by phone or online, icm used face-to-face, in-home research to question a representative sample of 1,000 muslims across great britain.
icm also used a “control sample” to compare what british muslims thought with the rest of the british population.. at the top-line level, the survey suggests that a mainstream british muslim majority have similar values and attitudes to the wider british public on issues such as support for british institutions and a feeling of belonging to britain.. but looking deeper into the results, a chasm develops between those muslims surveyed and the wider population on attitudes to liberal values on issues such as gender equality, homosexuality and issues relating to freedom of expression.

I was struck by the amount of Muslims surveyed who think homosexuality should be illegal, polygamy should be legal and Sharia law should be practised in some areas instead of UK law. It said 4% think suicide bombers are a good thing, which apparently equates to about 100,000 people. However it said 1% of non-Muslims agreed!
What really struck a cord was the Muslim journalist saying many young Muslims tell her they are miserable in that faith. Many of them are gay, many are forced into marriages they don't want, women and men, and many felt that they're stuck. Sound familiar?

Tiger numbers in the wild have risen slightly
by Xanthippe inin 1900 there were 100,000 tigers in the wild.
a hundred or so years later there were only 3,200 due to habitat destruction and poaching for traditional medicine.
for the first time in a hundred years the numbers have risen.. .

Dunedain it's great to meet another tiger adopter. Don't you find they chew the furniture though? 😀 I don't think it matters that we give very small amounts, it's the regular income WWF needs to do their work so multiply that amount by thousands, plus we know it's working because tiger numbers are increasing.
Outlaw LOL you remind me of what David Attenborough said that the problem with tigers is they sometimes eat people! So he said we need conservation that keeps tigers, humans and their livestock safe. Which is happening all over the world. Just google tiger conservation.

Yeah Bohm I'm infuriated by the monsters who kill these animals for their body parts for useless medicine. As I am with the poachers who saw off elephant tusks and rhino horns, leaving the animals bleeding to death with their distraught babies running around them. We are doing something about it, the charities just need financial support.

FeelingFree I agree it's good news, thanks to conservation by WWF and other charities. I joined their adopt a tiger appeal a few years ago bacause I was very afraid we would lose these beautiful creatures. One Christmas WWF phoned to tell me they were building a reserve for tigers on the Russio-China border to keep the animals safe and not be a danger to humans. A great Xmas present. Their numbers have only risen to 3,890 from 3,200 in 2010 but it's going in the right direction -
