I'm shocked to hear that Victoria Wood has died of cancer. She was only 62, so sad. She was one of the first female comedians, and paved the way for the those women that followed. Winning five Baftas for her work, and being awarded the OBE in 1997.
I will always remember her for dinnerladies, and her comedy songs, 'spread an avocado on my lower regions, spank me on the bottom with a woman's weekly.'
You will be missed Vic.

I was a Christian for a while but not a churchgoer. Whenever you join something people want to tie you down with rules. Had it with rules. I started a degree and decided to study history because I wanted to get away from religion. Stupid me, European history is drenched in the blood of religious wars, witch hunts and inquisitions. As Michel de Montaigne described what he saw in the Protestant Reformation, 'people slowly roasted for beliefs they neither know nor understand'. He wasn't being metaphorical. I'm cured. -

Xanthippe, I don't think Monardna bee balm is invasive
Oh good. I have a really invasive plant in my garden called Lamium Galeobdolon. The previous owners of my house planted it and in 19 years I haven't been able to get rid of it. It spreads underground by horizontal roots that look like tree branches and is hell to dig up. So I'm always cautious of new plants. According to the net it's been declared a noxious weed in parts of the U.S. Don't plant it, terrible stuff.

I listen to classical music now when I'm at home. I agree pop music has become boring. Most of it is about boy meets girl, surely there's more going on in the world to write about. What happened to the protest songs? -

Heaven I'm growing some Monarda, bee balm from seed at the moment. I haven't grown it before. Is it invasive, only it's of the mint family isn't it? I'm also growing Borage because the bees love it. You're supposed to plant it outside but I'm not sure tiny seedlings will survive the slugs in my garden so it was on my kitchen windowsill and now I've potted the seedlings on and put them in a cold greenhouse. They did flop a bit for a few hours but then perked up and are growing strongly now. I want to attract lots of bees and butterflies and it has such lovely blue flowers. It's also an edible herb.
