1st corinthians 15 12-17. but if it is preached that christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?

if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even christ has been raised.

and if christ has not been raised, your faith is futile... .

Paul is saying if there's no resurrection then Jesus wasn't resurrected, his teachings weren't true, there's no ransom sacrifice and therefore no resurrection for us. He says in verse 32 if there's no resurrection let us eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we die.

This is the crux of the matter, no pun intended. If Christianity isn't true then why all the slaving away, following beliefs that do not give you eternal life.

All that time and millions of dollars wasted appeasing a deity who isn't there to persuade him to give us eternal life. I've seen the inside of the Vatican! How about working so that everyone can eat, drink clean water and be happy? Then we can in good conscience enjoy our own lives, our own food and raise a glass with friends. We can stop worrying about death and let eternity take care of itself.

Hi Nic, yes if I remember rightly some early Christians believed in Jesus but not in the resurrection. It's these people he's addressing, similar to the Sadducees with their disbelief in the resurrection.

But the kindest, most rational Christian just cannot escape Paul's logic quoted above; if Christ is not risen your faith is in vain. The absurdity of all this is that faith is required to believe the very thing that makes faith futile. - Nic

I keep reading this over and over. Aren't you saying faith is required to believe in the resurrection which is the thing that makes faith futile? How does the resurrection make faith futile. Do you mean if early Christians could see people being resurrected they wouldn't need faith?

Agree with WingCommander. This is good news, PE. Your ex doesn't believe in the cult anymore, wants to fade and therefore not bring your child up as a JW. It's all good. WTF the arguments on here are about I don't know.

Spain: A group of elder requires clarification to Ministry of Justice regarding sexual molestors

letter sent today to the ministry of justice... .

spain bethel sent a letter recently last oct 3 interpreting that no elder or sm should request a certificate of sexual offenses as other churches or persons in contact with kids.

again jw.org interprets the law to their behalf.. a group of elders in madrid has sent this letter to ask clarification !!.

I love the expression they use in the letter, 'the so-called judicial committees'. Very accurate and interesting that these particular elders describe them this way.

Do JW's ever really grow up ?

i ask the above because of my personal experience.

as a born-in i was naive, socially inept and had never really thought deeply about anything.. i was also unable to accept arguments based upon reason and facts.. just like a child.. it was only after freeing myself from the mind-control of the jw cult that i educated myself and matured as a person to being (almost) an adult.. jw's attitudes and their inability to debate in any meaningful way, (they could start by actually listening),means they have not grown up..

Good thread Phizzy. If you block parts of your mind so as not to see reality because it contradicts your belief system you're going to stay immature. We must never be afraid to look at ideas that challenge us. It's not comfortable, it's not fun but we grow and we learn to be happy in the real world, with all it's problems.

i began my exit from the jehovah’s witness organization about 5 years.

i was a 4th generation born-in, with all the baggage that comes with having the “spiritual heritage” attached to the group.

i was an elder/bethelite/pioneer/whatever other useless privilege there was, i had no family or friends outside of the organization… my entire life was that org.

Paul how wonderful that your father is awake and he loves you and is so proud of you. That's all so many of us waited for isnt it? I'm happy you're free with your wife and children. Looking forward to hearing more from you.

I don't think I will be able to escape the JWs ...

i know i will get a lot of backslash on this forum for saying this, but as it looks like, i won't ever be able to escape the jws.

i have been a born in, third generation jw and awoken in one way or another (i joined this forum 15 years ago) for a very long time.

but i have adapted to the jw lifestyle to a point where it does not bother me anymore.

What if you marry another JW and have kids? They may grow up believing every word and wanting to pioneer. How will you tell them it's actually not the truth and stop them devoting their whole lives to it, giving up further education and the ability to earn enough money not to live in poverty? What if they get sick and need a blood transfusion?

Is disassociating worth the hassle?

i have been out now for 6 years but lately i have been giving some thought to da.

i just kind of feel that chapter in my life is still open and for some reason i feel like da'ing might close that chapter but i'm not entirely sure.

im not df either, when i left i basically faded and disappeared.

My husband and I sent a letter of resignation not of disassociation to the congregation, although in their eyes it's the same of course but it made us feel we were playing by our rules.

It was the right thing for us. We were so messed up by pioneering for years and my husband being a MS then an elder we needed a clean break to get our life back together and get our health back. As others have said we didn't know about fading back then.

Do what's right for you. If you dont want JWs bothering you to go back and you aren't afraid of losing family and friends it's a way to be free and clear.
