Is there something wrong with listening to both sides?
Nothing at all wrong with that. I like your questions and am interested to hear believer's responses too. There are a few on this forum.
do i have to believe in jesus to be saved?.
i was raised as a jehovah's witness.
i was born in.

we all know the rate of suicide is high among jw's.
my question is this- was there some subliminal messages that encourage this.
i was a born in and my entire life i would have these thoughts that could come out of nowhere,"kill yourself.
I think, as someone who had clinical depression in that religion in my twenties, that the teachings makes you feel everything is pointless.
Hobbies are pointless - you should be doing more on FS instead. Travel is pointless, 'we can do that in the new system'. Learning a musical instrument is pointless, 'we can do that in .........
Going to the gym, 'physical exercise is beneficial for a little but Godly devotion' yadda, yadda.
Volunteering or giving to charity - 'you have the poor always with you' and big J will sort out poverty and suffering - any day now!
Reading for pleasure or self education is pointless, 'to the making of many books there is no end and much devotion to them is wearisome to the soul'.
It's nearly thirty years since I read the Bible or a WTS book but this nonsense remains in my memory. This cult destroys our joy in life. They rubbish everything that gives any pleasure to human existence. I had the phrase 'what's the point?' in my head for many years notalone. Can you wonder that people take their own lives?
when i joined this site at the beginning of this year, i was serving as an uber-zealous regular pioneer and ms in a foreign congregation where the need is greater.
i was giving public talks and having parts at regional conventions.
had started to have doubts but i hadn't time to focus on them, i simply was overcharged with so many activities and things to do.. i started by quitting pioneering but couldn't think i would give further steps for a long time.
Well done Skepsis, hope you are doing okay missing friends today. Do something fun and take your mind off it all. You deserve it.
the edinburgh city observatory sits atop calton hill at the east end of the city centre adjacent to burn's monument, scotland's national monument modelled on the parthenon, and nelson's monument with the time ball that falls at 1pm every day except sundays.. .
the second astronomer royal of edinburgh was charles piazzi smyth (jan. 1819 - feb. 1900).
smyth was a man of many and varied interests including meteorology, producing weather observations that still form an important part of uk climate records to this day.. building on the work of james taylor, smyth became fascinated by the great pyramid of egypt at giza.
Fascinating thank you Cofty. Imagine explaining that to a householder. Using four random Bible verses to get to 1914 was bad enough!
i think that christianity's teachings pose a very unproductive world view and are a danger to our survival.
their teachings that man is sinful and worthy of death and in need of a savior to rescue him and free him of his sinful tendencies or else feel the wrath of god.
these things that condemn man as sinful are his own powerful drives given to him at conception which he now must deny due to indoctrination and consign to his shadow(jungian).
Their teachings that man is sinful and worthy of death and in need of a savior to rescue him and free him of his sinful tendencies or else feel the wrath of God.
Yes of course it promotes self hatred and also hatred of other people. Now we know we are simply another animal on this planet that has drives to survive, to gather stuff around us so we don't starve or freeze to death and also to reproduce, it becomes clear we don't have sins just animal instincts.
When our instincts are in conflict with the needs of others it can make us seem selfish but we're all just trying to survive. Babies are born little animals with instincts and needs, they're not born full of sin! What a vile teaching!
We're not broken, we don't need saving. We need loving parents who help us to fill our needs and teach us how to live around other people so that our needs don't conflict with theirs and cause pain. That's what we need, not religion telling us we're broken and need fixing, anymore than a kitten or puppy is broken, they're just new.
so as of july 2nd my wife delivered by c-section our little one pound, three ounce daughter izabella.
it was a very scary night that started with a decel and turned into multiple decels that greatly concerned the doctors.
by early morning they felt the need to take her for her safety.
Congratulations! What a wonderful story to hear today. Wishing health to your beautiful baby daughter and strength to you and your wife in this stressful time. ππΌππ
hello, this is my 1st initiated post on this site, so i'm a bit nervous.
i did search for similar topics on this site, but a lot of them have been inactive for several years, so here goes.... a little background, i was pretty much born in "da twoof", baptized at 17, pioneered for about 6 years, was part of the rbc part time, and was even in the foreign language field for the last 3 years i was a jw.
so i pretty much had a pretty active social life within the organization due to being part of all of those things.
Hi Novice, I totally understand your feelings. I left with my husband but lost all my family and friends like you. I have recently joined a Meetup group online. Just google it if you don't know what it is. We go to see plays and have meals out. There's also a book group within this Meetup.
I've found it brilliant because Meetup is basically designed for people who want to expand their social life. You can check out what the group's about and the age range. Join several if you like, you don't have to go to anything you don't fancy and no one will be like 'where were you' if you don't go as they are in the JWs. Try it.
look my life is not bad but sometimes i just think about all the normal things i missed out on.
and no i'm not talking about christmas and birthday parties.
i'm talking about your first kiss happening in your twenties instead of your teens.
@confusedandangry it's not too late. I pioneered like you and left at thirty. I was a few weeks off 37 when I had my daughter. Many women are having children at forty now. Go for it!
