The Prodigal Daughter
by azazelthegreat inlego animation about the prodigal son with a twist... includes part of a recorded elders reinstatement meeting.
jw wolves at their best.

Welcome to the forum Azazel. Thanks for the vid, very good one.
"(in the prodigal daughter parable) Jesus must have forgotten the part about the judicial committee."!
Wow that recording of the reinstatement meeting was so powerful, the emotion in her voice and the complete lack of compassion in the elders. Plus the obsession with asking about her sex life.
Thanks.

"That is going to be the last..." feeling
by paradiseseeker init's been a long time since i last kept you up to date with leaving process.
well, i got another teaching job, i started to work in october and my contract will expire in july.
that's is almost a year of financial security and i have the certainty that i will be called in a different school in september until i eventually get a fixed post - this is how it works in state schools in spain.

Congratulations on your teaching contract and moving out to live on your own! I hope you get a permanent post soon.
I'm not going to tell you what to do, you seem happy with your life so why worry about making a big show of leaving the JWs. Hopefully your life will simply move on and be filled with your job, enjoying your new home and the new friends you will make from your job. It will happen naturally.
Either your JW friends will drop off as you do less in the religion or they will stick with you. No need to make a big deal with your parents just take your time.
You say you know you need to make that final step but nobody here is telling you to do that. Do what makes you happy.

Awake magazine: "Help for those who grieve" ?? Appalling omission!
by stuckinarut2 ini have just had the opportunity to read a hard copy of the awake no3 2018 entitled "help for those who grieve".
wtf?.
it really is appalling in its glaring omission of any recommendation to see a professional grief counselor!
-
Xanthippe
'Even so, there are some basic guidelines that have proved practical for many. They are frequently cited by grief counselors, and they echo timeless principles found in an ancient book of wisdom, the Bible.'
They mention grief counsellors but then don't recommend you see one. Instead they take it upon themselves to distill the advice given by the experts and tag on a scripture with it.
I can't decide if it's arrogance, they know better than the experts or fear that JWs getting professional help will find out that the real world isn't so bad, there are compassionate people out there. It's probably both!

I am healthier, happier, wealthier. I have put the JW's well and truly behind me. I no longer care about any of their opinions, their teachings or their existence.
It sounds like you're living the life of Riley. Good for you!
but who needs toxic people in their lives?
Yeah I agree, a lot of people would like to get rid of their toxic family and we had it done for us. Result!
Congratulations on moving on!

A slice of heaven or whatever turns you on.
by Half banana inin piccadilly in the west end of london there sits a church called st james and most mondays they hold free lunchtime concerts.
i went yesterday and marveled at the coming together of so many cultural wonders.
the church itself was built under the direction of one of england’s most celebrated architects sir christopher wren, who also built st paul’s cathedral.

Arrive a bit early say at ten minutes to one so as to get a front seat for full immersion in the performance. The programme of the day is found on the internet under St James, Piccadilly.

Celebrating China's Spring Festival (aka Chinese New Year).
by fulltimestudent inlate yesterday there was a phone call from an old friend who i had not seen for some 5 years.
let's go out to dinner to celebrate the spring festival.
i should explain that my friend had just arrived that morning from china, had slept for a few hours and then called me.

I'm glad you had a good meal and caught up with you friend. I was in my city last week to go to the theatre and the orange Chinese lanterns were strung across the street from the clock tower. We have a large Chinese population in Leicester.

"No more than 40 years"
by dynamiterose77 inin another corner of the internet someone stated that witnesses are proclaiming that this system will be no more than 40 years now... that "gog of magog" will start the great tribulation.
can anyone confirm this latest "prediction"?.

Waton I don't think they ever put 1975 in writing as the end of the system. Dragging my mind back thirty years since I was in I think it was something like the end of six thousand years, six creative days so it would be an 'appropriate' time for it to happen, blah, blah, blah.

That sounds sublime Half banana, thanks for telling us about it. A little slice of heaven indeed. I am going to London sometime in the summer to see the Leonardo drawings and cartoons exhibition at Buck House so perhaps I'll get tickets for a Monday.

EX-JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES PARTICIPATE IN THIS STUDY OF PSYCHOLOGY!
by TJ Curioso inex-jehovah's witnesses participate in this study of psychology!.
dear friends,.
for some time now i have had the desire to conduct a study of jehovah's witnesses, a religious movement i have known for 30 years.. for this to be possible, i enrolled in a phd in psychology at the university of algarve and applied for an unpaid leave for an indefinite period.. the subject of the investigation revolves around so-called psychological abuse (or psychological manipulation) in a group, motives for the departure of jehovah's witnesses and possible consequences of this disfigurement in people's lives.
