  do you ever find yourself starting to hum a jw tune subconsciously?

  several times while driving alone i started singing one of them, and then i get to an offensive lyric which jolts me 'awake', and i say something to myself like 'no!

  Stan, I wasn't kidding I just had a memory lapse. I completely forgot my husband's funeral cost £3000 too. It's a ridiculous amount of money isn't it, complicated by writing in his will he wanted a non-religious service and a burial. So I had to hire a room in a hotel for the service.

  I've written in my will my daughter can do whatever she wants when I die. Funerals can be such a burden can't they?

  Brilliant Zing, you must really care about your friends to put in so much effort.

  Activism does work we know because people who leave tell us it was because they looked at YouTube videos and websites including this one.

  We don't all like the same people and we can choose who we watch or listen to online now because there are so many ex-jws out there doing great work.

  Nope I'm not offended. I don't recognise what you're describing either. I often watch Live at the Apollo on TV which is from a London theatre.

  A Muslim man will make fun of Muslims and a gay woman will make fun of gay women. Comedians often make fun of their religious or ethnic background.

  wonderfully warm interview from "stop the shunning" channel host beth, with ex mormon morgan ( ex morgan).. morgan describes her young life and the process of waking up or, in mormon parlance, her "shelf breaking".

  there really are so many things we have in common, from young marriage to feeling personally responsible for saving everyone you have contact with that's not of your religion.

  Quotes by Einstein are a popular facebook meme. I don't know if he really agreed with Spinoza but I like Spinoza' s ideas.

  How could a being capable of creating a universe care who his creatures mate with? Who they loved or what they did with their lives?

  Egoists rarely accomplish anything so why would such an intelligent creative being be an egoist? Why would he want some of his animals to build temples and sing praises to him? Just stupid, I agree.

  i personally find that when you’ve been around toxic people long enough, either in a family environment or as part of a cult or a highly controlling church, (or worse, both!

  ), you tend to get a very twisted view of your own identity and also human nature in general.. in a religious context, you may end up feeling that you are a “lowly worm” and that in general, people can’t be trusted.

  since all you’ve known of relationships has been painful, complex and tiresome, it can give you the impression that this is the norm and that’s all you can expect .

  Oh FAD I was with you until you started talking about God. I can't accept that he sent his son to be tortured to death for me. I don't want it, I didn't ask for it.

  The Romans tortured so many people to death, theirs was a reign of terror. They used torture deaths as a public spectacle to frighten onlookers and keep them in line. To equate that with love is an abomination.

  I understand that ex-cultists need to build self esteem and self love but this is not the way.

  A few years ago I took my daughter to Venice and lake Garda and had the opportunity to go on a trip to the Dolomites. I didn't go because of worrying about money but could kick myself since then because they are so beautiful. Always take the opportunity to travel, it may not come again.
