I hope I am less black and white in my thinking. People are not good or bad, a lifestyle is just a personal choice and an opinion is just that, it doesn't mean if I don't agree I have to dislike the person.

The CO and his wife have no home
by not bitter ini know some have a flat or apartment that they can go to on the odd week off but i believe that the majority have no base to call home.. my parents have the co and wife stayng this week again and i asked my mum about it.
she says that if they do get the any time off they go to her mothers to stay but thats only every few months.
i just can't imagine having to live out of a suitcase in someone elses home constantly.. how to they not crack up.

How to they not crack up.
I think they do crack up. Fond memories of pioneering and the CO started beating us over the head with the idea that even though we pioneered/did our part-time jobs all week plus FS Saturday and Sunday morning, plus the meeting Sunday afternoon why didn't we go in FS Saturday afternoon instead of bunking off!
They were going through hell so why not make everyone else miserable.

On Tuesday when my neighbour told me her husband died. It brought it all back because I knew exactly what the pain felt like and I felt so sad for her.

the danger of apostacy
by inbetween inundoubtely the biggest crime in watchtower world is apostacy.
the upcoming dc apparently has quite some parts on this issue.. recently i read a book from the philosopher hubert schleichert, the title is something like "how to discuss with fundumantelist without loosing your mind".. he goes into fanatics of all kind, and shows, why apostates are so dangerous for any ideology, may it be religious or even political.. the reason: any strong ideology is convinced of possesing the truth.
this creates a problem, since apparantly not everybody accepts this belief or ideology.

Very true it is a defence mechanism to reject very strongly anything or anyone who threatens our belief system. That is why it is a good idea to have a loose belief system that can change over time so that we are not threatened by anything new that may come along.

What do you think happens when we die?
by cognac ini'm trying to figure it out.
if we are just dead then there is no point to anything i do.
i'd like to hope our energy goes somewhere... but, i'd like to examine what somebody presents as proof....

There's always a reason to live life.
Interesting thoughts WWTSSG. I think after being a JW it is very difficult to shift our focus from 'pleasing God' and working ourselves half to death for the WTS onto finding out what we want to do with our lives and learning what makes us happy.
When I first left we contacted an organization called INFORM (Information Focus on New Religious Movements) based at the London School of Economics and they invited my husband to give a talk there as part of a seminar on newish religions.
I remember listening to the other speakers, mostly young people who had left other cults, one from the Children of God, one was a Hare Krishna and they all seemed very intense. I think it was the young woman from the Children of God who said she had great difficulty finding a point to life or to anything after leaving the cult because everything that people were interested in seemed boring and pointless.
I think we all have this problem when we leave the JW and it takes a while to find a purpose to our lives. We have to find what matters to us without being told what to live for and it does take time. Many of the self help books say we should find something that we are passionate about and live for that no matter what others may think of us.
So thinking about life and death sometimes is about saying 'what's the point', finding what matters to us personally and putting our whole heart into it.

Next Of Kin - your JW family will REFUSE BLOOD if you need it...
by talesin insimon's thread about making a will reminded me of this issue, and the fact that many of you may not have given it much thought.. .
this is something that occurred to me many years ago - and i have a good friend listed as my next of kin (nok).
a few years ago, i had a situation where i was hemmorhaging, not capable of giving consent because i was heavily sedated, and the permission had to be signed.

Time for this Newbie to say - Hello everyone!
by SeventhSojourn inin just the several months i've been lurking here, i have benefited from many of the posters comments and viewpoints.
this is truly a special place for the unique community that has been created here.. after years of holding off my exit from the org (that may be another post) i recently became officially out (by letter of da), but it was a very difficult process as many of you know.
thankfully, i now have my wife (was also a witness) onboard and we support each other.

Thanks for this Talesin I've wondered about this since my husband died but I couldn't find a definitive answer on line about it. My daughter is now eighteen does she automatically become my NOK now do you happen to know - my parents are dead? My siblings are still JW so I have worried about this but I had a feeling that you could choose your NOK.

I don't know is the simple answer to that Cognac, but Soul Survivor by Bruce and Andrea Leininger presents some interesting evidence.
