Rumor about the Imitate Jesus Convention
by FusionTheism ini saw a rumor a few weeks ago on reddit that the new imitate jesus convention is supposed to present new light and clarified understandings on the disfellowshipping/disassociation practices.. supposedly, if this rumor has any truth to it, there will be a talk given at the convention about how we should not be strict like the pharisees in how we shun people, loosening up some of the jw rules about this practice.. has anyone here heard anything about this or have more info on it?.

I've always thought either this cult lightens up on shunning and all the other rules or it will implode. All the other Christian churches have had to lighten up to survive. Nobody is getting burnt at the stake anymore. Read history, the Spanish Inquisition, whether you expect it or not , is no more. -

Paradise is going to suck!
by WasOnceBlind inonce you really start thinking about it, the whole paradise idea is kind of depressing.
i remember growing up as kids my sister was the first to tell my parents (admittedly very courageously) that she wasn't sure she wanted to live in paradise, it sounded boring living forever.
i thought she was dumb for thinking that, i mean playing with lions!!!!

Wasonceblind, sorry if we are being flippant, we stopped believing in paradise a long time ago but you're right the separation from loved ones would be terribly painful. The grief would be appalling, it's a terrible teaching, but the WTS don't care about people being separated from their loved ones. Guess how we know that. -

Don't they ever stop to think about the reality of things and realize how silly this resurrecting in paradise idea is?
No I don't think they do think about it rationally. I remember visiting some JW relatives and the friends staying with them thought there would be no machines at all in the new system and we would all be naked. Better be careful how you swing that scythe!

Smiddy, Hank Marvin was and still is a JW as far as I know, my husband met him in one of the London congregations. Cliff looked into it but didn't join, I believe his mother joined. -

Are you religious or are you spiritual? Wake up to what?
by Deltawave inthere is a huge difference between been religious and been spiritual.
been religious is about been superior to others in the sight of god.
however, been spiritual is about self awareness, inner peace and unity with the natural world.

We haven't heard from you in a while Deltawave so hope you're OK. Sometimes people who have been very hurt by the JW religion can react strongly to talk of anything spiritual. I have totally understood your posts about the need for more than just a mundane life, I can relate to the search for meaning, many of us can. Hope you haven't been frightened away by the strong reactions here. Take care. -

Think of yourself as an asylum seeker. You've got away from that totalitarian country, you're not being tortured any more. This country where you are now will let you be free. If you need help to forget the torture then get counselling. You have 20, 30, 40 years left to do whatever you want. Enjoy! -

I wonder if you can be spiritual and religious at the same time??
by Deltawave inok again i would like to apologise as i did come across preachy.
i am not going to debate whether or not i am a bk as you have your opinions either way.
what i was trying to write though was my thoughts and feelings which i hope don't offend anyone on this forum.

Neither do I attribute any of these things to a personage or unseen thingy. So we agree, well apart from the girl parts thing.

The more we allow our feelings and emotions to control us the longer religion and 'spirituality' will continue to imprison us and keep us from evolving as a species.
Well thanks for trying to clarify DJS although I'm still not sure what you mean but you know emotion makes people get their wallet out when they see children with pot bellies on the TV. Is the camera team trying to manipulate our emotions? Yes of course they are but for a really good reason. They could just say in a voice over, send money for Ethiopia, Sudan, whatever and give you a website and phone number.
The sensible and controlled thing might be to say I can't afford it but thankfully many people are moved by their emotions to help others.
However I was talking about enjoying art with all of our emotions. I hope you think that is compatible with rational living?
