  Why do so many people believe in psychic powers?

  as an ex-witness i have enjoyed becoming open to other people's views and understanding.

  therefore this o.p is on the subject of psychic powers.

  my own exsperience i can't explain rationally, but as a child many times i had dreams that came true in detail, yet many may explain it away as deja vu.

  You won't get any takers Rebel. Some have tried on here In the past but the replies are always, that's anecdotal, your imagination or if it was true someone would have won the million dollars from James Randi.

  As you say until it can be proved by scientists it is only a belief so I keep my fascinating experiences to myself as do many others because, unsurprisingly, people are allergic to 'beliefs' here. I do think in most societies, however, it's quite acceptable to mention an interesting and unprovable experience in a relaxed setting.

  The luck of the draw.

  lf you were unlucky enough to be born into the jw sect the chances are high that you became a witness.the same applies to most things in life.lf you were lucky enough to be born into a very rich family the chance is that you to will be rich.lf you were born into a third world impoverished family chances are you will suffer your entire life.my point is there is always someone worse off than you.the mere fact that your reading this means you are probably better off than roughly a third of the worlds population.a person dies every 4 seconds of hunger or hunger related causes and yet there is plenty of food available for everyone.so really its just a matter of keeping a proper prospective on things.theres a lot to be said about a pma (positive mental attitude).

  I agree there are so many ways our lives can be messed up by chance and bad luck. Poverty, corrupt governments where we are born, lack of good healthcare. A cult is just one of them and we can change most of the consequences of that.

  What really annoys most of us I think is that hunger, disease, natural disasters and so on are real but our lives have been messed up by pure fantasy, our parents teaching us to give up on life because Satan is in charge.

  The JW FUNERAL experience

  my best buddy is gone.

  i attended his funeral this morning.. on thursday evening, i went to the body "viewing" and it was "family only.

  " i am part of the family (through marriage) so, i was there.. i was welcomed with joy and enthusiasm like a long lost (prodigal) sheep.

  i came across a link on the bbc site this morning to an article in scientific american on gut health claiming that one reason we need to keep our guts healthy with probiotics, a good diet and reducing antibiotics is because there are neurons in our gut that are part of the process to create dopamine and serotonin for the brain.

  on many things in life as I've come to be able to trust my intuition

  Yes so have I Flipper. Very little in life is black or white, I agree.

  Finding out that what we eat affects our brain chemistry is not exactly a revelation for many I'm sure. Finding that the human body and brain are even more complex than we thought is intriguing.

  Thanks Sparky that looks interesting, I think I've seen it in the library.

  nonjwspouse, it would be great if a there was a cure for Parkinson's related to balancing the gut. My cousins husband died of it, not a good way to go. Too little dopamine and the body and brain freeze up as in Parkinson's, too much and you can get bipolar disorder.

  We had a friend with bipolar and he wouldn't go to his doctor because he was on a high at the time his stomach was bothering him and he thought he knew better - he was a microbiologist. He died of a perforated stomach ulcer on his living room floor. Brain chemistry really matters and if gut health makes so much difference it certainly needs the research.

  Also when you think about it we need serotonin to prevent depression and people take heroin and use cannabis to produce a dopamine high. So if we can do that though diet then hand me the live yoghurt.

  'There exists a book written by a specialist in gastroenterology who speaks with simplicity and a lot of humour... Gut, the Inside Story of Our body's Most Under-rated organ by Giulia Enders.

  A small marvel, a book of good knowledge.'
