The Lion King was based on Hamlet. Themes of families and feuding are in Greek mythology as well of course, but then we have created our gods in our own image.

You Have Been Looking Forward to This for a Long TIme - October 2nd 1914
by steve2 inpicture yourself as a member of the brooklyn bethel family on friday morning, october 2, 1914. you are seated at your usual place at the breakfast table, awaiting the arrival of brother c. t. russell.
suddenly the door to the dining room opens and brother russell appears.
he pauses for a moment, as is his custom, and greets the bethel family with a cheery “good morning, all.” but then, instead of immediately taking his place at the head of the table, he claps his hands and makes a thrilling announcement: “the gentile times have ended; their kings have had their day!” you can hardly contain your joy—you have been looking forward to this moment for a long time!

Do you know I thought the introduction was your own words, being sarcastic about what a ridiculous thing to say. That the date they were waiting for had arrived and nothing tangible happened but Russell was all hip hip hooray.
To realise that a recent WTS publication is still telling people how this happened with zero embarrassment astounds me. Very well put Steve2. We must never take out freedom from this nonsense for granted.

I've always thought it odd that they revered the dung beetle. I've glanced through the book of the dead. It's interesting that humans have believed in life after death for thousands of years.

What a beautifully written, sharply intelligent open letter. Thanks tor sharing Barbara.
'To summarize, the problem is that you rightly encourage girls to dream big, but then endorse and promote a religious organization that demands under threat of excommunication and subsequent shunning that they remain small.'

You're welcome ...
by Simon ini figured i'd shut the site down for a couple of hours to encourage everyone to do their xmas shopping.
the error message was a subtle hint, that's what "500 error" means ... go shopping.. whatever rumours you hear, it definitely wasn't that someone deployed a quick update before going on a 1.5 hour car ride to pick someone up and didn't think that the page they tested, to check it was all working after the update, happened to be cached.
no siree bob, not that, na hah.. anyway, you're welcome for the extra chance to, erm, shop..

We need a more tolerant community to conform in.
by The Rebel inas a witness i now realise how little control we really had over our life.
therefore naturally upon leaving everything became less certain.
this is because really leaving only happened when i let go of that past.

The great thing is you don't even need to conform outside this Borg. There are people at work who don't come to the Christmas party, don't bring cards in and a couple of them are openly Bah Humbug about it.

So when will the Society produce a comedy video on JWorg?
by stuckinarut2 inso according to 1 tim 1:11 jehovah is supposed to be a "happy god".. so when will we see "his people" produce a comedy video of some sort for the website?.
if you could propose an idea or storyline, what would it be?.

They could always show a clip of Jackson telling Angus Stewart he's looking forward to meeting Jesus. Then cut to Stewart's face. Priceless.

Knock knock."Who's there? Two elders!!
by Darkknight757 inso today was a cold and snowy day in my neck of the woods and the wife and i were just chilling around the house waiting to go to the church tonight for a candle lighting service when lo and behold we get a knock on the door.
yup, 2 elders from my old hall.
i figured they were fishing for some time so i invited them in and gave them some coffee and we talked about everything that happened and why we walk away from the jw's.

Oh I thought the columns of the earth were elephants at first glance Schnell, looking for the turtles they're standing on. That's about the right level of education for the elder's return.

So I bought a Harold Camping book.
by schnell ini found this at goodwill and i want to burn my eyes out a little.. .
camping predicted september 15, 1994 as the end of history in his 1992 book ingeniously titled "1994?
" he pulled the same thing for december of 2011 of course, and here we are.. .

Yes there's been lots of nutters starting many cults. Luckily he only gave the world two years, hopefully didn't ruin too many lives.
