Political leaning since leaving the Org.

as you are completely barred from talking or being involved in politics while in the org, since leaving has anyone started any political campaigning or activism?

I coĺlected for Oxfam after leaving the JWs for a few years because they believe in teaching people to help themselves. Then they asked me to visit my MP particularly highlighting primary education for all children globally. Which I did for a couple of years.

Then I got disillusioned at a meeting where they said the autumn door to door collection was a publicity exercise where they spent two million pounds to make one million. I was furious! I spent hours doing that every year so now I support UNICEF and save the children who are part of the DEC and on the ground in all natural disasters and war zones.

Joined Amnesty International after leaving the cult and have petitioned, written letters and emails to free prisoners of conscience although not so much lately as work and maintenance of my house and garden take most of my energy.

Why was Amnon (son of David) not put to death for raping his half-sister Tamar

it is amazing what comes up when i am researching.. i was thinking about the 2 witness rule.

amnon tricked his half-sister tamar to be alone with him and then raped her.

tamar's full brother absalom found out, it is implied by the wts that there had not been 2 witnesses to the rape (hah!).

Why are they comparing a rape story from the Bible to premarital sex? The two scenarios are not similar at all. One is about violence and the other is about consenting adults who want to have sex.

I don't like the way they keep describing the victim as beautiful Tamar and lovely Tamar. What are they implying, that it was partly her fault for being attractive?

Why do they describe the rape as violating her virginity. Wouldn't it have been so bad if she hadn't been a virgin? Are they saying two consenting young people raised as JWs having sex are violating the girl's virginity? Stupid, there's nothing precious about virginity, what an ancient, out-dated belief.

there is so much wrong with the newly released october, 2019 but that's not unusual.

what stands out is there statement claiming that survival through armageddon depends on loyalty to those 'taking the lead'.

since they claim there will be a point during the gt that they (the gb) won't be physically around, jws must still be loyal to jw leaders.. whats interesting in this article is that they make it clear that they, the governing body are going to take part, from heaven, in the war of armageddon.

If these child abuse court cases snowball would the GB just disappear with all the cash they've gathered into offshore accounts by ripping off the r+f, grabbing their KHs? Their other sheep helpers take over making out the GB have raptured because the GT has started. Those who take over are not liable for any charges because they weren't there at the time.

The Unbelievable Just Happened!

something uneblievable just happened.. i am pomo for a while not too long though.

while we were away (i and my best friend for the weekend), i received several texts from my 2 friends, from my ex-cong ,who are pimi(but starting to have doubts) who have been asking me questions about the jdubs.the texts seemed quite urgent n serious, so got the lowdown .at the weekend meeting , 3 families walked out!.

There's nothing to watch on TV anymore ???

do you find yourself, as i sometimes do, skimming through channels on the tv remote and not finding anything interesting to watch?.

growing up, we only had four channels on our tv (nbc, cbs, abc and pbs).

and yet there always seemed to be something of interest to see.. sadly, i often find myself watching shows where some guys are auctioning off storage lockers, killing alligators, picking junk from peoples' garages or barns, catching tuna, towing cars, driving trucks on the ice, catching crabs, running pawn shops ... etc etc etc.

British drama has been brilliant lately. I've enjoyed Summer of Rockets, Years and Years and Gentlemen Jack. Look out for them if they come over the pond.

I've got rid of cable and just have the actual free freeview, no top box nonsense. Very happy with freeview if any Brits want to know.

The values of hard work, job satisfaction, stretching yourself to do better each year. The joy, the intellectual buzz of learning something new.

Just follow these rules boys and girls and wait for paradise. Don't forget to despise all the others who aren't following them as well as you.

Why this obsession with Standardisation?

the longer i am out, the the less i understand the logic of this organisation.. i thought that the kingdom hall my wife attends was perfectly fine and adequate, in fact i liked that it sat in grassy grounds, surrounded by trees.

it probably wasn't in any dire need of re-decorating at this point.

others, obviously, thought otherwise and so the hall has recently been subjected to a make-over.. the parking lot has been extended in true joni michell they've "paved paradise and put up a parking lot".

That sounds vile, chopping down the trees and pulling up the grass. Paving a car park they don't need but then the WTS don't really want beautiful KHs for the members do they? They want them ready to sell as plain office buildings or industrial sites. Paradise is for the bigwigs in Warwick with their landscaped gardens.

made absolutely no sense to me, and no matter how much I would try to figure it out I couldn't, only to discover those things didn't make any sense because it was a total sham.

I was like that Tameria with things like the ransom, the seven times prophecy and why we celebrated wedding anniversaries but not birthdays. You end up feeling I must be stupid if everyone gets it but me.

In reality we were brighter than most, independent thinkers. That terrible thing! Hasn't it made you trust yourself now though? If something sounds like bullshit that's because it is.
