  contrary to popular belief and what society and the media will portray satanism, devil worship and witchcraft are 3 very independent systems of belief, .

  sure, to those who are afraid of looking into books dealing with the occult, for fear of being possessed or what have you, i write this as a vent because it makes me laugh when i hear people assume that the three are the same, they aren't, .

  and the reality is that even though the three get bunched up as the same, many times it is the ignorance of the practitioners which keeps the ignorance alive.

  So true about jws fear of being alone, or finding so much strength in being in large groups of their own ilk. Then there is their tremendous fear of demons and the devil. Then the lie about meditation being a practice of emptying the mind, which mind, of course a demon will instantly occupy. Most of the material i've read on the practice of meditation taught not to empty the mind, but to still it, to detatch from thoughts and emotions. It's like being an observer without getting involved. There is nothing to be afraid of except onself or ones own thoughts.

  Which brings me to another way that christianity cripples its adherents. The christian concept of sin is that we are all inherently sinful and at the core wicked, bad, deserving nothing but death. That is, without christ. Who would want to look at his/her own center if they thought that was what dwelled there? Talk about insecurity!

  This book has maybe 20 exercises in energy movement. The psychic developement part of the title might be an over emphasis. Then again you may be more psychic than i. Anyway, i liked this book and it's not too expensive, i still use some of these techniques, not nearly all. At amazon.com you can read other peoples comments.

  Yes, the kabala is very interesting although probably more complex than needs be. Israel shamir says that the top israeli politicians call in the hasidics for guidance from it. I'm imagine that it works, but on the other hand, i would stay away from anything jewish, remember who wrote the bible and the talmud. Other cultures have a higher level of spirituality. Most of the bible is very anti-gentile.

  The 100 year old book mysticism by evylen underhill is a study of the stages that many of the christian mystics went through. While it is mostly from a christian perspective, i believe spiritual seekers of all paths could benefit from it. For instance, the need for solitude applies across the board. Aleister crowley told his desciples to not listen to the media, today that would include radio, television and newspapers. Elijah, if he existed, seems to have spent a lot of time by himself in his tent. He made his servants do the running around. He liked to pitch it on the top of a mountain.

  i posted yesterday regarding a df'd young lady who is attempting to get re-instated into her local congregation.. she doesn't believe a word that jw's teach.

  when she is eventually re-instated, this lady will say goodbye to her relationship with her boyfriend, her dancing, even the clothes she wears will all have to go.

  she will submit herself to the iron will of her elder father and attempt to enter her mothers tut-tut world of submissive sisterhood with its demure prissiness wrapped up between peter pan collar and ever longer skirts.. this lady is paying the ultimate price - her very self - to redeem her hostage family from its kidnappers.

  I wish i could answer your questions about zen buddhism and taoism. I know they have things in common but not specifically. The taoist book i'm reading now is about how to manipulate energy. The author is mantak chia. Book is called chi nei tsang. But really i only have general knowledge so far, in these fields.

  Some of aguests responses agreed with what i have learned/experienced and so i stuck up for her. But she could still be a scammer. Spirituality is no guarantee of quality personality. I find her bible quotes and archaic jewish expressions irritating. You may be right about the martyr complex. Some people think she's desperate for attention. She's certainly getting that!

  You have been meditating longer than i. Do you feel it getting tougher? I have slacked off on meditation since may, although i do some taoist energy stuff during the day as i feel the need.

  My theory on the book of revelation, is that it is john exploring his OWN psyche or subconscious, with perhaps some input from a higher spirit. A shaman could write similar stuff after a trip. During meditation i have sometimes had very clear impressions of a cathedral, the control room on a ship or other things. Aguest could be manufacturing a lot of her own stuff as well. Many christians have some kind of spiritual experience, and immediately jump to the conclusion that god has chosen them to be his special emmisaries to do something or other. Buddhist monks have manifestations too and generally ignor them. The christian theology often twists people all out of reasonable shape.

  How did you know why i use this name? Are you psychic?

  Okay, here’s a bit about me.
  Born in the 50’s to a disfunctional couple.
  Married couple gets sucked into joining dubs in the early 60’s.
  I missed most of the hippy movement, damnit!
  Baptised as dub in about 1966.
  Family continues to be disfunctional and gets worse.
  Continued busting my butt as a ‘happy’ jw through the 70’s.
  Canadian bethel construction work in 1980.
  Went where ‘need is great’, quebec.
  Suffered tremendous stress and depression. So ‘happy’.
  1995 – started asking questions.
  1995 – read ray franzes books, illusion is bursted, felt sick.
  Sickness passed, enlightenment, exctasy followed, may have levitated for months.(joke there)
  1996 – disfellowshipped for asking too many questions.
  To 1998 - Christian phase.
  1998 – found out bible wasn’t gods word. That hurt!
  1998 to present examine all aspects of spirituality, general history, philosophy basically everything, Whew..
  2001 – start meditation. Some taoist practice.
  Life slowly gets better, am finding myself.

  while jehover had been resting since the exertions of giving birth to creation, he manage to finish his book.

  since god completed his last book, he has gone into virtual hibernation.

This is probably how a lawyer would do miracles: with deniability, an escape clause and no liabilty if things got worse. Is jehover a lawyer too? bwwwaaaa haaaa haaaa!   first off i beleive in god's existance.. that being said, let me proceed.. there is much so-called scholarly debate on both sides, but lately on this forum it has been brought out what scholarly and pseudo-scholarly is.. scholarly: compiles facts then makes deduction based on all facts as best as unbiasedly possible.. pseudo-scholarly: makes deduction then compiles selected facts that support deduction, giving little validity to the contrary.. .

  so my point is if these definitions are true then the only one that can provide scholarly work on the existance of god is an agnostic since those from the other 2 camps fall in the pseudo-scholarly collectors of facts.. i admit that my beleif is from selected facts and a discounting of others that i feel quite probably are wrong, but not from facts always but because i'm not a scientist and don't keep up with all the data availible, it would be so so tireing for me.

  to me in my mind it works.. so then can either camp(the beleiver, or nonbeleiver) prove that they are unbiased and that they collect facts and look at them dispassionatly?.

  Scientists can prove things in laboratories. People can prove things by their actions. Can it be proved that god doesn't exist? Can it be proved that he does? I doubt both these statements. Why argue about the unprovable? Maybe we could leave it to god to prove his existence in an unambiguous way. Well god, for what are you waiting?

  The book mysticism is a study of the western -basically christian- spiritual practice of getting close to 'god' or goddess -the virgin mary. My knowledge of wicca is very basic. From some reading in general about taoist, buddhist, psychic material and my involvement in the pentacostal type christian, i would further stick my neck out and say, that aside from theology, all these spiritual practices are in the same feild, so to speak. All the arguements come from the theology. If jesus were here, he could freely pass into spiritualist churches where people were loving. For my 25 cents worth, i would say that the only thing that would present a problem is spirituality based on hate or anger. This type of spirituality could well push one to the 'dark side'. My theories anyway.

  Interesting about tai-chi. I may be starting lessons this month. I'll keep in mind 'subduing the tiger'.
