Legacy's not too far off from what some experts believe, to be fair, but I think maybe something's got a little lost in translation. Alan Downs argues in his book The Velvet Rage that it's the father son relationship issue, which Legacy describes, that results in many gay men only managing very short relationships and a more promiscuous lifestyle than heterosexuals. But just to clarify they don't suggest it's the parental relationship that causes their children to be gay.

How to accept the actions of the Old Testament God
by confusedandalone inhow are we able to do this.. this is not an attempt to stir the pot or cause confusion but i was sitting here thinking of all the really horrid things that the old testament god did to people.
when i was a jw i just purposely put it to the back of my mind always trying to make an excuse.
when i was in field service and someone would ask me about it i would just change the subject.. however i have been reading alot of info lately here about how wonderful jesus is and how he is a direct representation of what god the father would be.

Great thread. I asked this question to the elders who gave me a shepherding call about a year ago. They told me to re-read the Draw Close To Jehovah book. Then in the closing prayer the elder asked God to forgive me for daring to question his divine justice and wisdom and love. I never read the book again.

LOL @ Problem Addict hehe
@HeartofABoy well I might as well be honest about being a raging homo, hehe - though not quite as raging as I used to be. (I do want to see Behind the Candelabra btw I've heard it's good)
@Steve2 - had to laugh at what your mum said about tidy bedrooms. Mine was an absolute pig stye!
Great thread btw - enjoyed reading all the comments

Since I spent so much of my teens and adult life associating with heterosexuals and watching movies featuring heterosexual romances and, at least in my teens, joining in with the other brothers talking about the attractive sisters (had to cover my tracks). By all accounts I should be straight rather than the raging homo that I am.

JW Apolgist rant here...and confession.
by Julia Orwell ini really don't like people disparaging active jws on this site by calling them stupid, idiots, morons and that, and making out like they're willing puppets to the gb or cruel at heart.
or describing them like they're puke or as having no desire to learn or listen.. to you, all these things may be true.
we all have opinions and are entitled to them.

How I recently handled JWs at my door
by Christian guy inthe jws stopped by my house a couple weeks ago on a saturday morning.
i knew that with others most likely waiting for them out in the car they probably did not then have much time to engage in any serious conversation.
so i let them talk while i feigned interest in what they had to say.

4 Letters from the Branch read tonight, no warning from this site
by James Jackson intonight at our meeting we had 4 letters from "the branch" read at our meeting.
i was caught off guard since we usually have an advance warning when these letters are going to be read.
is the watchtower getting better at hiding these letters?.

Haven't there been KM articles in the last about NOT using them? Or did I just imagine it all?

Prayers
by Rattigan350 inwhen i read online forums about when someone dies or something bad happens, people comment saying "sending prayers".. i wonder, why, what for?
prayers have not brought anyone back from the dead.
have they healed anyone?

As I always said to those brothers who insisted on giving long boring public talks (I mean prayers) before meals, the bible simply says Jesus "gave thanks" or "blessed" the food before eating. That's different to the sanctimonious display given by many JW males at dinner parties and other social gatherings. I rarely pray these days but I don't rule it out. Some scientists believe people who pray have better health (most likely because it's a good stress reliever).
