As for shows like the X factor. They're about tv more than anything. I like watching them but they have ruined creativity. jehovers witness parents did a runner without telling the medical staff caring for their seriously ill child and took him to receive proton therapy in praque as this treatment was not available in the u.k.. first most importantly the good news, the boy was declared cancer free last march.. anyway i am sure at the time this issue would have created a lot of heated debate on the forum, as it was a case that created a media frenzy, with the parents and their jehovers witness religious beliefs being heavily critizised .
however as i followed the case i couldn't help but admire the parents, as i felt they would have acted indepentedly of both the jehovers witness organisation and the u.k medical advice, having in my opinion seriously thought the matter through, and then doing they thought was the best way for treatment.. so if you remember the case my questions are:-.

Surely anyone judging the parents actions is just being judgemental. None of us were in their shoes so we are in no position to give our arm chair judgments. We do not have all of the information that they had at the time they acted the way they did.
I don't know whether I could have done what they did. I hope that if I felt so strongly about something I would act in accordance with my head and my heart despite the judgements of other people.
Personally I do believe they thought they were acting in their child's interests. And I admire them for it. This is not a religious issue and our negative opinion of the Jehovah's Witness religion shouldn't have ANY bearing on this case. As the OP stated, they were probably acting independently of any JW advice as well as medical.
I'm with SlimBoyFat on this. I distinctly remember quality of life being the main issue - not survival in itself.

i don`t know if this has been addressed before , however it appears there is an inconsistency and a big one at that with the practice of shunning with jw`s.
elders / ministerial servants look out for the spiritual health of the congregation , and if they see something they feel is detrimental to the spiritual health of the congregation they are going to act to rectify it, .
they take appropiate action where they think is necessary .
As previously mentioned and to answer the OP: Yes Satan and his demons are cast from heaven and in Tartarus so they have been shunned by Jehovah. Any talking to him before that would have been like an elder counselling someone before they get disfellowshipped.

I've seen a few comments saying that this is a tribal war or that "we didn't start this". Sorry but not strictly true. If the West hadn't meddled in the Middle East, none of this would be happening. The citizens of Libya and Iraq had better lives under the dictators that we removed than they do now and they blame us for that. Now we are bombing Syria and innocent people's lives wil be destroyed/affected much more than the terrorists' - those innocent people left behind will blame the west for killing their family members, maiming them and livelihoods and so the hatred grows. It could be said that the west is a very efficient terrorist factory.
Now that we have this problem, we need to accept these facts and change our strategy. Everyone knows that bombing doesn't solve any problems and only makes things worse all around. It's all a bit of posturing for the benefit of us here at home so that we feel the government is "doing something". The only way to deal with Isis is to outsmart them instead of playing into their hands by bombing them. But no, that requires intelligent thinking when our governments are only interested in their approval ratings or the next election.

Aside from the sexuality issues, a couple of pieces of information stood out to me (1) that Islam is the fastest growing religion in the UK (What?! Surely that's a mistake! We all know it's Jehovah's Witnesses! ) and that the extreme forms of Islam are not that uncommon, as one young gay Muslim makes clear ("I believed the UK was at war with Islam and that homosexuals should be thrown from a tower").
