  Elder asking for help

  this is my first time posting on here so i’m not sure where to start.

  i’m trying to keep it as short as possible since i could expand much more.

  i’ve been in the process of waking up in the last year and a half.

  Welcome Untruth. So much good advice on this thread. The common theme is take it slow slow slow and avoid criticizing the organisation.

  Everyone's different but something which helped me wake up was completely unconnected with the religion. You might be able to create similar opportunities with your wife. I went to Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition, I think it was in 2011. There was a huge, huge photo of a gazelle running directly towards the camera with a look of terror. Behind it were some leopard cubs looking quite evil. The photo, probably because of its size had a massive impact on me. The caption explained that the mother had broken the leg of the gazelle so that she could train her cubs to hunt and that the cubs would soon catch the gazelle and kill it. Looking at the fear on the gazelle's face made me question the whole notion of "looking to creation to see examples of Jehovah's love".

  That's just an example. You might be able to create similar opportunities for your wife to ask basic questions or you could use the "if someone on the doors asked you" approach. E.g. "If someone on the doors asked you how to explain how a god of love could have deliberately created a situation involving animals dying in sheer terror and pain, how would you explain it? Couldn't God have arranged to ensure animals got fed in a way that doesn't involve pain and fear"

  now i know i am getting older or of the older generation.

  i have had a very strange day with a lot of strange dealings with people with strange behavior today but this one incident was just over the top.

  so i came out of a store in a busy shopping center.

  while I don't think your charitable work is relevant to this thread, please be assured that I think it's very commendable.

  I have worked in public service for many years - very strict on child protection issues. I am of the firm belief that child protection issues have no relevance on the case at hand - this man had no direct responsibility for a child - from what you say, there were no kids about anyway - if underwear, shorts or speedos are not a threat on the beach it's only learned behaviour that rules that it's a threat in a parking lot.

  My personal belief (tho I hasten to add, not expert or scientifically proven) is that encouraging young children to have hang ups fears or shame about the human body is a form of child abuse in itself. There is nothing to be feared by the human body in its semi-nakedness in this particular case. There was no behaviour to suggest this guy was a threat to anyone - an exhibitionist maybe or more likely someone who was in a rush and really didn't give a sh!t what you, I or the world's wife thought about him getting changed for work in a car park. I admire him for that.

  I'm still trying to understand what's so shocking or offensive about someone getting changed in a parking lot and being seen in their underwear. I find the fact that people are shocked more shocking and offensive to be honest. He didn't break any laws such as indented exposure.

  From this discussion I'm getting an impression that Americans really lead very sheltered lives and are extremely narrow minded. Please say it isn't so, or is just a certain part of America? 😱.

  Maybe we're all too hung up about the naked body. In this case just his underwear. Not sure why this would have been even more inappropriate for a child to see either. Being shocked at this is learned behaviour - a child wouldn't naturally be traumatised at someone getting changed in the parking lot unless they learned from an adult that it was something gross or "evil". A child''s natural response would be to think it's funny.

  If he had been standing there masturbating, then that would have been the time to raise an eyebrow (though in Italy apparently it is perfectly acceptable to masturbate in public according to a recent news article)

  we pray that they can make a recovery and be back with us.".

  stale, canned, institutionalized garble.

  I hear ya. To be fair, it's not easy standing up in front of a congregation and speaking without notes in a prayer, knowing that your every word is being judged by the co and elders and some members of the congregation. I hated giving public prayers, found it a highly stressful experience and on one occasion completely dried up for a painful full minute or so.

  I do remember some wise words said to me: "don't worry, most people aren't listening anyway".

  just wanted to say hello, i have been visiting this site for a very long time and i feel like i know so many of you already, now you can get to know me but for now i'm fading so i cant give my complete story.

  i'm single but have "hardcore" siblings in the religion, thankfully i do have family who never expressed interest in the jws.

  i really checked out years ago from to much mental abuse and no recognition for all that i gave to this organization.
