This doesn't surprise me one iota.
I used to correspond privately with a woman whose husband was disfellowshipped for refusing to resign his position as a longshoreman at a west coast seaport. The elders told him to quit his high-paying union job because, according to their convoluted logic, he was assisting the U.S. military by loading government shipments aboard vessels. Had this body of elders done a little investigating, they would have discovered that the WTBTS regularly books shipments of literature, printing presses, and personal effects of missionaries aboard oceangoing vessels. Their goods not only travel aboard the same vessels as military shipments, but are sometimes consolidated inside the same containers!!
How do I know this? I used to work for the company which the WTBTS booked these shipments with, and I took all of their bookings over the phone. Little did those unsuspecting Bethelites know who they were talking to when they called me!

"Witnesses of Jehovah" video
by TheApostleAK inanyone seen the witnesses of jehovah video?
i've got a copy of it myself.
i thought it was ok and wasn't too bad.

I couldn't agree more.
The video was of a sufficiently professional quality.... up until the last 10 minutes.... that it could have been presented for play on PBS stations nationwide in rebuttal to the Watchtower-produced videos which I've seen on PBS out here in California (and complained loudly about). The video's pitch for born-again Christianity in the last few minutes of the tape reduce it to the quality of your average infomercial. -

Fine encouragement from the faithful slave
by comment inas all true christians know, jehovah is a "god of love.
" his boundless compassion for all mankind is reflected in the spiritual food which his faithful slave provides at the proper time.
wise are those who take to heart the loving reminders contained in the february 15, 2001 watchtower!.

This is the time to 'seek meekness.' How? By being submissive to God, humbly accepting his discipline and conforming to his will.
I personally know a sadomasochistic couple who engage in submission and discipline daily. -

News of the Weird!
by think41self inhey guys, .
had to share with you something that was in our local paper, the sunherald, under "news of the weird".
"raymond jones filed a complaint after having angrily stalked off his job during the 1998 holiday season, never to return, at a shoppers drug mart in vancouver, bc, because his boss told him to set up artificial poinsettias in a seasonal display, which he took as a directive to support the abhorrent idea of christmas(he is a jehovah's witness).

Sooooo..... if I work in a shopping mall and find the idea of Jehovah's Witnesses having a literature table in the mall, and walk off my job, can I sue THEM?

Eminem and censorship
by Uni girl inwhen my son came home from the meeting, he told me that they were told not to listen to eminem because (in his words) he's bad.. i can not stomach the kind of censorship that is put upon people...aren't these things a personal choice or at least a parents choice.
by censoring everything they make a child go behind their parents back and close the line of communcation which could result in some real harm.
i listened to eminem with my son and whilst some of the things are very offensive it was quite clear to me that although he was talking in the first person, he was actually expressing what he thought societal problems were,(no one think bob marley actually son the sheriff do they??).

Yes I see your point. It is ok for parents to choose what type of music is appropriate for their children to listen to. But they have no say at all, when they decide to discuss sexuality with them.
Good point.
Wendy, perhaps I'm getting a bit tired of this thread and I'm reading more into what people are actually saying, but I believe I detect sarcasm in your statement.
Let me kindly remind you that while there is nothing wrong with parents discussing sexuality with their children per se, there is something dramatically wrong with instilling a hatred of difference in children. Homosexuality is not a choice. If it were, do you think I would have deliberately chosen an orientation where, just by my very existence, I am opening myself up to verbal taunting and physical violence? I did not fill out a questionnaire before I was born and check the "yes" box next to the question "Do you want to be gay?". I am playing the hand I was dealt and trying to get by in a world filled with prejudice.
Giving guidance to a child regarding their form of entertainment is definitely a parental right. Teaching prejudice and hatred is NO ONE's right. -

Newguy:
Gee, how do you feel about the censorship of gay people on television, say showing two men on primetime tongue-kissing? there are some people in this country who think little kids shouldn't see THAT.
Is there a difference between two people of the same sex, or two people of the opposite sex tongue kissing on prime time shows? I personally don't believe that children should be exposed to ANY of that. Pardon me, but I think your homophobia is showing.d0rkyd00d:
What rights do gay people fight for? is it acceptance?
I can't speak for all gay people, but the right that I fight for is to simply be accepted as a human being, being allowed to love another person of the same sex. I can't take my personal fight as far as acceptance. While there are others who I'm sure would strongly disagree with me, I would be content with merely being left alone without harrassment.Mommy:
Why do you think the children at Disney World had questions about a man holding hands or kissing another man? Could it possibly be that the child was somehow exposed to the parents' belief that this is somehow wrong? Why, then, didn't they express the same curiosity about heterosexual couples. Do you see my point?
