  for me it was the belief that all people who refuse to become jws are intrinsically bad.

  if someone doesn't accept the "truth", naturally it's because "satan-the-devil" has hardened their hearts.

  when you're a dub, you tend to ignore the ramifications of this.

  i knew of a couple that left their mates so that they could be with one another.

  the elders promptly disfellowshipped them.

  the couple made it known immediately, that they were going to apply for reinstatement as soon as possible.

  We had a sister in my congregation who had been disfellowshipped three times for having adulterous affairs with three different brothers. No action was ever taken against any of the brothers because each one of them married her after she was granted a divorce from her previous mate. Each time, she was reinstated very quickly. How is this possible? Quite simple, really: Her father was the Presiding Overseer.

  I reported sooooooooooo many of these posts as spam. I kept thinking that maybe one day they would get tired and quit. But noooooooooooooo. Well, I hope that busting them will put an end to most, if not all of it.

  Considering that the "advance fee" or "419" scam is the 4th largest industry in Nigeria (no kidding!), I doubt it's going to go away any time soon. I generally receive 3 or 4 of these emails daily, and they are all from different people. The term I would use is "epidemic".

  this is a spin-off of another thread where my *mild and chaste* friend, mouthy, admitted to wanting to meet her dream man, tom jones, and that she would even go so far as to throw her bloomers at him, if that is what it would take to get his attention!

  well, the mental picture this painted was far too much for me to bear, so i encouraged her to save her red polka-dotted "unmentionables", not only because she might need them in the future, but because i didn't think she'd have to go that far to get his attention.

  and i said that - because of a personal experience with him.

  Jack Bailey - moderator of the bizarre quiz show Queen For a Day from back in the 1950s. He was so thrilled that I actually recognized him! He was on a Caribbean cruise and living in a retirement home in Florida.

  Majel Barrett Roddenberry - played Nurse Chapel, Lwaxana Troi, and the computer voice on the Star Trek series. Later married Gene Roddenberry, the creator of Star Trek. I've never met a kinder and sweeter personality. I was last in line at her autograph signing at a Star Trek convention, and she wanted to talk to me forever.

  Vanessa Williams - I rode next to her in a shuttle bus between LaGuardia and Newark Airports, and during our conversation, we discovered that we actually have mutual friends!

  James Doohan - "Scotty" from the original Star Trek series. I got him to sign a copy of a tape of an episode from the old black & white TV series The Outer Limits from 1962 entitled "The Expanding Human". Turns out this is the very first role he ever played in a Hollywood production. To my knowledge, I am the only person who owns an autographed copy of this tape.

  John DeLancie - "Q" from Star Trek - the Next Generation. I played a dirty trick on him at a Star Trek convention in San Francisco. I was standing in line waiting for his autograph. The line went out the door and down the street. Instead of having the fans file past him, he decided to have everyone stand stationary as he walked down the line. When he got to me, he asked "So what do you want autographed?", to which I replied: "Autograph? What autograph? I thought this was the line for the cable car!"

  Others I have had fleeting encounters with: Liza Minelli, Linda Gray, Chevy Chase, Patrick Stewart, Michael Dorn, Marina Sirtis, and several others I know I'm forgetting.

  The only celebrity I would never want to meet again was Jerry Lewis, who was rude and abusive to a coworker of mine when she approached him to congratulate him for the work he did with handicapped children. Before she could congratulate him, he snapped "Well, I suppose you want my autograph, don't you?"

  Mouthy, if you speak to Adam again, please tell him I said hello. I met him a couple of years ago at a mutual friend's home in Nova Scotia. He is a very kind man, and I admire his courage in persevering after all he's been put through.

  I Am a Published Novelist !!

  My publisher told me that Amazon.com will have it on their site next week or the week after.

  This gets more and more exciting every day!

  I know this may sound crass and crude (I don't mean it to - honestly), but by nature, would you not agree that the sex organs that we have, both male and female, are meant to be used towards each other in a natural way (male - female)? By this very simplistic definition of who we are as sentient beings physically, it has lead me to believe that man & woman are the way God chose us to be originally.

  You are talking about procreation, not sexual orientation. There is a huge difference. If you adhere to the school of thought that homosexuality is unnatural because same-sex relations do not reproduce offspring, then you also throw a blanket condemnation upon couples who are barren, unable to reproduce, and women who have gone through menopause.

  Sexual orientation is a state of being, and encompasses much more than just the sex act itself. I have the same capacity to love as my heterosexual counterparts do. I have the same capacity to be a productive member of society. My only difference is that my orientation instinctively directs me to partner with a member of my own sex.

  Religion promotes the stereotype that homosexuals are lascivious and promiscuous by nature, yet these are the same religious entities (and now, governments) who would deny us the benefit of legal recognition of our partnerships through marriage. By denying us the basic right to be recognized as a devoted couple, these religious and political folk are in effect trying to force us back into the shadows to become self-fulfilling prophecies. I love my partner too much to allow that to happen to us!

  In other words, look at us as people capable of love, and stop dwelling on the sex. As was clearly demonstrated by the original post in this thread, sexually repressive religions, through their condemnation and lack of understanding and compassion, drive many fine human beings to their death. I am glad I am no longer a JW, because I do not want that blood on my hands.

  i heard about it on the radio yesterday, but didn't believe it to be true.

  i'm all for treating animals humanely but if this is what happens to your judgement when you cut all meat out of your diet, then i'mgoing out for a burger.
