I have been married to a JW for 10 years now. Never once I have I ever seen her read the bible. Never has she given any witness of her faith. Never has she started a theological conservation with me. Heck, I am sure she doesn't even read the magazines anymore.

I try to explain basic Christian concepts to her. Saved by grace, why we have a new testament, what the new covenant is, the deity of Christ etc etc. She has no interest at all. She doesn't try and defend her position. She just doesn't give a shit.

spiritual endangerment ha ha . I think reading the bible might be "spiritual endangerment".

The book of revelation has a pattern of John hearing something and seeing something different . It follows the theme of the old testament to new testament. Example he would hear the mighty lion of Judea and then see the bloody lamb.

The calling of the 144 is a reference to the building of an army in the book of Numbers. The he saw a great crowd no man could number. The 144 is just a symbol for the body of Christ or all Christians.

2. irrelevant old testament story

3. Quote something out of context.

4. Massive theological leap.

If you studying the bible on a strictly secular university level class and you tried to pass that stuff as actually thoughts of any substance, you would fail every time.

The trinity is a something made up by men and its a rabbit hole that isn't worth going down imho.

Understanding Jesus in the old testament is really the foundation of new testament. A figure that is somehow separate but co eternal with god. The figure which is the physical manifestion of God yet separate of the father.

It's frightening how little jws know about this kind of stuff.

The books of Luke, Mark and Matthew are called the synoptic gossips and don't really deal with larger issue of who Jesus was. It's not till the book of John and the writing of Paul you really understand the old testament backdrop of was Jesus was.

In between the old testament and new testament there is a 400 year period called the intertestamental period. The 400 years of silence.

During this period the rabbis were debating some of the weirdness happening in the old testament. We have an invisible god no one can see but for some reason people meet and talk with him. Sometimes god refers to himself in the plural. Sometimes lord refers to god in the second person. Sometimes god is one, sometimes he is more than a single being. Sometimes a figure called the angel of Lord or word of Lord speaks as god.

When you read the new testament and know your old testament it becomes pretty obvious who the authors think Jesus is. He is the visible image of the invisible god. Know one has seen god, Only the son etc etc.

How it all works ? Who knows. Bible isn't entirely clear but it is pretty on who the authors think Jesus is.

what are you thoughts on this?.

i find this alarming because jones was very outspoken and had great guests on discussing topics most other media outlets wouldn't go near.. the fact that many have restricted him access to their medium what does this say on our freedoms of speech?.

Alex Jones reminds me exactly of what the Wts does. Say horrible and slanderous things about everyone and finally when someone says or does anything, the great persuasion is apon us.
