Kingdom Hall sold. Now a mosque.

so much for dedicating the kingdom hall, hallfields lane, peterborough, .

pe4 7yh for 'true worship(tm)'.. it's now a mosque.. not that i care anymore, i have finished thinking much about the jobos.

moved on and glad of it.. just thought you'd be interested.. now i'll sod off again for another few months.

The Kingdom Hall near me was up for sale for ages and is now a baptist church.

Successes you enjoyed since leaving the Org

thought i would start a discussion, and hopefully a positive one, on what successes you’ve enjoyed since leaving the org.. each of us is different as people, in life experiences etc.

however we all share one common factor in that we have all experienced the negativity, to a greater or lesser degree, of being a jw and the org.. each success is worth celebrating so i invite you to share some of your achievements.

it does not matter how ‘big or small’ it is, share it with us.. my achievement means a great deal to me both personally and professionally.

Leaving a high control group is a success in itself! I was third generation JW.

i enjoy my life to the full even though I didn't fully leave until my early 40's.

i went to university as a mature student and got my BSc honours degree in Philosophy it was an eye opener and some.

i have visited nearly all the cathedrals in the UK , they are astonishing in my opinion, I love to hear choirs.

I go to the theatre and concerts making up for so many lost opportunities.

I practice yoga and mindfulness.

All my children and grandchildren are free to live their lives as they wish.

nothing happened over night , but step by step, life became really good.

To break free from that evil cult was the most sensible, successful thing I have or shall ever accomplish.

If a JW Came To Your Door How Would You Handle It?

jehovah's witnesses have never come to my door but they have come to my girlfriends door.

i have coached her as to what to say or ask but it appears that they always seem to come when she's not there.

.....just curious would you get into it with a jehovah's witness at your door especially if it was someone you did not know?.

When they came once to my door I said

'there is absolutely nothing attractive about you people, you pray for the deaths of the majority of mankind each day. Why would I be attracted to you or your god?

(wait for response)

if I am not a Jehovah's Witness at the end of the world shall I live or die? What about all the children and people never heard about your good news, by the way , whats good about it?

No there is nothing that would ever attract me to you

really you people should be ashamed of what you believe not sharing it

THE LINGERING SHADOW OF '75

none of you are old enough to have been there, i suspect.

i had been in prison two years as a jw conscientious objector when the exciting news about 1975 spread like wildfire.i was paroled from prison in 1969 and immediately began pioneering.

the pressures began mounting throughout the organization.

I do anti witnessing every day now and always mention how as a child and a teenager I was going to be destroyed at Armageddon in 1975 , if I was disobedient

scared yes but I was resigned to my fate

Crying is part of being human , having compassion for creatures

I also don't get having no pain , pain is what teaches you what is dangerous

so I always thought this scripture referred to heaven

I was ashamed

i was once a person who believed in god destroying 7 billion people so a few people could live in paradise.. when the penny finally dropped and i realised what as a jehovah's witnesses i was really praying for , it made me feel sick.

what is attractive about a person that prays for this world to end .

i was ashamed to have been a witness deeply ashamed .

I am not being dramatic in the least bit, (dramatic is being pretend) plus I am no longer ashamed , I know now how brainwashed I had been

i was simply stating how I felt when the realisation dawned.

That as a family we had been praying for in effect the death of the majority of the world for nearly 35 years, waking up to the fact of how horrendous that would actually be.

It is appalling that in the 1970's. I looked around at all my classmates and everyone I met in the "world" and believed they would be gone if they did not only believe in God , but love him , whilst believing he was going to kill all those non believers , including family members.

That for me was shameful

if jw`s come knocking at your door, do you open it & engage in conversation, tell them to sod off, or just not answer the door?.

my husband`s has asked me not to answer the door to them if he isn't here?

he hate`s the fact that they make a point of calling when they know he will be at work.

It wasn't my fault I was born into this vile self absorbed smug cult

it it has taken time but I am liberated and free so much so that I am don't identity myself as an ex JW but rather as a liberated free thinking genuine person that has no need " to put on the new personality" because mine is just fine thank you

i was browsing through stuff on jw.org recently and ran across some expressions that really grate on my nerves: loyal love, loving-care, and loving-kindness, as in: "please exercise loving-kindness toward your servant.

" who talks like that?

they must be relics of the fred franz era.
