  Fifteen years later, I went to the UN in person.

  of all the things that the watchtower has done wrong, what would you say is the singular most powerful thing that you could point a jw to, to crack their eyes open?

  what is the singular thing that can be expressed bluntly and conclusively that might shock a jw to their senses?

  if you could only carry one arrow in your quiver on your way to war with watchtower, what would it be?.

  It might be a small thing but it always bugged me, that they used to charge interest when they loaned the congregation money. That they said we are not like other churches passing around a collection plate... No what they do is worse. The focus on money was ridiculous and I hear it's getting worse.

  lots of things bugged me growing up as a JW but it was the offensive way they spoke about worldly people not seeing the rafter in their own eyes

  the new light is an offensive and cruel argument it makes JW heartless especially the changes in blood, the denial about saying 1975 was when Armageddon was due .

  Help with fading, please...

  i just left about six months ago and i'm going through the emotional whirlwind that comes with it.

  i would really appreciate some advice on how to keep this fade from turning into my being disfellowshipped.

  i'm another born in, third generation.

  As everyone mentioned above keep your cards close to your chest. There's no need to give them ammunition against you. Keep up to date by finding out a tiny bit of whats going in in JW land.

  It took me 8 years to fade completely , I too am third generation all male family members elders pioneers etc. after being left now 16 years (where does the time go)

  I used the tactic of really busy, not well , but how are you brother so no so, how is your wife children dog cat or whatever , people love to talk about themselves. As soon as I have sorted out these few personal issues I have you will see my smiling face once more

  ok it's not true but it works, no need to be confrontational at this stage or any other stage until you wish to or want to.

  The physical effects of Cognitive Dissonance

  most of us here have gone through, or are going through the various stages "cognitive dissonance".. this is a term used to describe a situation where our minds, and hearts just know that something is "not quite right", and therefore we find ourselves in a muddle trying to reconcile the things we know with the things we are hearing or being told.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/cognitive_dissonance.

  so just wondering, how many of you found yourselves (or still find yourselves) becoming phyiscally ill in some way during the time of fading?.

  i know that when i look back, for several years even before i was awake to the many issues and facts about the society, i would feel ill at assemblies or conventions.

  I was in agony sitting at meetings when I realised there was something seriously wrong, I would be screaming inside , many times I just walked out, difficult as my husband was the PO. I had migraines all my adult life until I finally left JW. completely in 2000. I went to post cult workshops and had counselling to come to terms with it all.

  often I find in my dreams / nightmares I am at an assembly or Kingdom Hall trying to get out

  Kingdom Hall sold. Now a mosque.

  so much for dedicating the kingdom hall, hallfields lane, peterborough, .

  pe4 7yh for 'true worship(tm)'.. it's now a mosque.. not that i care anymore, i have finished thinking much about the jobos.

  moved on and glad of it.. just thought you'd be interested.. now i'll sod off again for another few months.

  Successes you enjoyed since leaving the Org

  thought i would start a discussion, and hopefully a positive one, on what successes you’ve enjoyed since leaving the org.. each of us is different as people, in life experiences etc.

  however we all share one common factor in that we have all experienced the negativity, to a greater or lesser degree, of being a jw and the org.. each success is worth celebrating so i invite you to share some of your achievements.

  it does not matter how ‘big or small’ it is, share it with us.. my achievement means a great deal to me both personally and professionally.

  Leaving a high control group is a success in itself! I was third generation JW.

  i enjoy my life to the full even though I didn't fully leave until my early 40's.

  i went to university as a mature student and got my BSc honours degree in Philosophy it was an eye opener and some.

  i have visited nearly all the cathedrals in the UK , they are astonishing in my opinion, I love to hear choirs.

  I go to the theatre and concerts making up for so many lost opportunities.

  I practice yoga and mindfulness.

  All my children and grandchildren are free to live their lives as they wish.

  nothing happened over night , but step by step, life became really good.

  To break free from that evil cult was the most sensible, successful thing I have or shall ever accomplish.

  If a JW Came To Your Door How Would You Handle It?

  jehovah's witnesses have never come to my door but they have come to my girlfriends door.

  i have coached her as to what to say or ask but it appears that they always seem to come when she's not there.

  .....just curious would you get into it with a jehovah's witness at your door especially if it was someone you did not know?.

  When they came once to my door I said

  'there is absolutely nothing attractive about you people, you pray for the deaths of the majority of mankind each day. Why would I be attracted to you or your god?

  (wait for response)

  if I am not a Jehovah's Witness at the end of the world shall I live or die? What about all the children and people never heard about your good news, by the way , whats good about it?

  No there is nothing that would ever attract me to you

  really you people should be ashamed of what you believe not sharing it

  THE LINGERING SHADOW OF '75

  none of you are old enough to have been there, i suspect.

  i had been in prison two years as a jw conscientious objector when the exciting news about 1975 spread like wildfire.i was paroled from prison in 1969 and immediately began pioneering.

  the pressures began mounting throughout the organization.

  I do anti witnessing every day now and always mention how as a child and a teenager I was going to be destroyed at Armageddon in 1975 , if I was disobedient

  scared yes but I was resigned to my fate

  Crying is part of being human , having compassion for creatures

  I also don't get having no pain , pain is what teaches you what is dangerous

  so I always thought this scripture referred to heaven

  I was ashamed

  i was once a person who believed in god destroying 7 billion people so a few people could live in paradise.. when the penny finally dropped and i realised what as a jehovah's witnesses i was really praying for , it made me feel sick.

  what is attractive about a person that prays for this world to end .

  i was ashamed to have been a witness deeply ashamed .

  I am not being dramatic in the least bit, (dramatic is being pretend) plus I am no longer ashamed , I know now how brainwashed I had been

  i was simply stating how I felt when the realisation dawned.

  That as a family we had been praying for in effect the death of the majority of the world for nearly 35 years, waking up to the fact of how horrendous that would actually be.

  It is appalling that in the 1970's. I looked around at all my classmates and everyone I met in the "world" and believed they would be gone if they did not only believe in God , but love him , whilst believing he was going to kill all those non believers , including family members.

  That for me was shameful
