Taking about something completely different, are you guys also annoyed by how the governing body will address very serious and complicated issues using emotionally loaded cartoons? Like the whole Sparlock and Caleb thing. Hogwash! Whenever I see someone do that, I think: Now there is someone who don't have a good argument.

Cofty, I don't think you can compare "Europe" to "Canada" because Europe is a very big place and I would bring up very different issues when talking about the UK, Norway or Poland. If you are interested in the question, how do you suggest we try to answer it?
About your statement re. mistakes, I think leaders in general should avoid mistakes of other countries.
For instance, I think Canadians should avoid large, nazi-inspired marches and curtailing free speech such as have become fashion in Poland these days. I also think they should avoid the mistakes of immigrant ghettos, as seen in Belgium. Do you agree?

Freemindfade, I don't know how to respond to that. Your answer revolve about Trudaus politics, left wing politics, etc. which was not really a part of my question. It is not that I don't want to respond, it is just pointing in so many different directions I don't know how to. The gist of what I am getting is the reason we should focus more on Islamic terrorism in Canada compared to right-wing terrorism is because of different issues relating to Trudaus politics and some general points about the media and universities. Sorry, I don't really understand when you are trying to address my question and when you are bringing up points you feel are important in the general conversation.

Hm. My post got truncated and the editing is messed up. I meant to add: I agree the situation is different in other countries, but I specifically asked in the context of Canada.

Cofty, I don't want this discussion to touch on too many things but this quote stood out to me:
I can't answer for Canadians but from my perspective in the UK you are attempting to create a false equivalence.

Freemindfade:
You bring up many issues and I cannot answer them all. Firstly, the reason I focus on Canada has to do with the topic and the subsequent discussion which is Canada-centric. I still wonder why, in the context of terrorism in Canada, we are giving Muslim terrorism (vs. right wing terrorism) so much more focus than terrorism of the non-Islamic kind? Wasn't the Mosque-shooting the biggest case of domestic terrorism in Canada to date?
About "right wing" and "Islamic": I agree, Islamic dictatorships are incredibly right-wing insofar they are political. What I meant by "right-wing" is how the term is traditionally understood in a western context, i.e. nationalistic movements with different elements of white supremacy/fascism.
You claim it is absurd to compare right-wing terrorism with the "global cancer" of fundamental Islam, but I made no such comparison: I specifically focused on terrorism in Canada, not globally.
I don't want to put words in your mouths but is what you are saying this: Regardless of the domestic terror risk in Canada, Canadian politicians should focus more on Islamic terrorism (and so should we on this forum) because of the risks posed in other countries than Canada?
You posed this question:
"Are there large groups of "right-wing" countries currently perpetuating slavery, the murder of apostates, atheists, homosexuals etc?"
My answer is no, but I cannot help but notice the word "currently" which is doing important work in that sentence. -

Here is something to ponder: Why is terrorism perpetrated by Muslims (or potentially perpetraded by Muslims) in Canada recieving so much more attention and concern on this thread than terrorism perpetrated by right-wing terrorists?
Given recent events in Canada, there are good reasons to believe both groups contain radicalized members ready to kill people.

LoveUniHateExams: I agree he ducks the question. But all politicians duck questions all the time, it is not a right and left wing issue.
The video you refer to was the video about how FGM should be discussed in a draft to the citizen guide?
Yes, I agree he handled it quite badly. I don't know why. Perhaps he did not want to commit to content in a document under development. But FGM is in the new guide right?

I think we are very much discussing how politicians handle the press and not so much to actual policy/law in Canada no?

New here...
by Jacobi inmy name is jacobi, i am a born-in but mentally out for more or less a decade at this point (although it was cradual) and about 40yo.
i don't want to say a lot about my family, but it is a mix of going-through-the-motions, semi-actives (but mentally in), some who have left for a few reasons and one really depressed pioneer.
because people fade in and out i have managed to slide under the radar and i keep up apperances of not being all-out apostate but i completed my fade about years ago (it also helped i moved to another part of the country).. i might rub some of you the wrong way because of my views on different things like politics.. i am not a trump supporter at all and neither are most people in my country.

It is an interesting question why they stay in. I'd say for a few it is because they are truly convinced and it is working really well for them. For most others they are convinced, but it is only partly working or not working at all (a yo-yo JW); I fell in that category and I think many other teenagers do. A few I suspect could pretty much put it away from day to day on an intellectual level, but they need the structure (and formalized social life) to function. I don't have a good theory; I wonder if anyone has written about this subject?
