Ewart Chitty was known by the brothers as one of the "three wise men" along with Pryce Hughes and Ewart Chitty and Edgar Clay because of the lead they took at Assemblies and Conventions during the 40s and 50s.

Ewart Chitty
by NoAbuse inewart chitty was appointed as secretary-treasurer , which position he held until his appointment to the governing body in november 1974.. when in brooklyn, chitty seems to have preferred younger men as roommates.
the actual charge brought to the gb against chitty was made by a former roommate and involved some sort of inappropriate conduct.
the gb concluded that chitty had homosexual tendencies, and asked him to resign.. a rare photo of chitty in happier days.

A 1981 Awake! article has Chitty making comments about people having lost their love of neighbor and God. Apparently by this time Chitty was drinking heavily, according to close acquaintances.

Jehovahs Witness Yearbook, 1967 p.105: Cameroon
"On one occasion a large crowd was following a man who had a talking serpent. The serpent gave greetings and spoke in foreign tongues....a brother was passing by, attracted by the commotion, he went to the house to see what was happening. As soon as he entered the room the serpent stopped talking. The man cried out: "A magician has entered this room! He better leave or I will bring Evil upon him!" The brother asked the man: "Is that a serpent or a demon that has spoken?...I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses and I know since God has created animals not one serpent has spoken, with the exception of the garden of Eden...what you hear speaking is a Demon not a serpent." Offended and seeing that the serpent remained silent the man left the building...later the brother met the man and he was eager to get some publications..." -

Thus my investigation.

Apparently Chitty spent his final years in a "Jah Jireh" home. I had never even heard of such a thing.

JW.org greater than the Bible now
by eyeslice2 inthere was a time when brooklyn bethel was emblazoned with the words; "read god's word the bible daily" but it seems to me now that even the bible has taken second place to jw.org.
i remember having lots of studies using the 'truth' book.
we asked the students in those days to prepare well and look up the scriptures in their own copy of the bible.

smiddy3 said : "Back then JW`s could hold their own in a discussion with a householder however from what I`m hearing now on this forum things have changed dramatically "
I get what you're saying, but I wouldn't call it "holding their own." More like overwhelming them with nonsense.
