I had a lovely older lady come to my door (actually i was in the garden ) she presented me with a tract, content of which was jesus message etc, and an invitation to their meeting hall. I accepted the tract and thanked her without going into a discussion . She then went on to other doors. There has not been a jw at my door for years, although i suppose i could be on the ' do not call list'

The Witneses reckon that they are the only ones going door-to-door!
by Bungi Bill ini just had a visit from two guys who are engaged in a door-to-door campaign in the area, preaching "the gospel", and offering, to quote "the best news you are ever going to hear".
this was at 3:30 pm local time, an hour at by which all jws would have long called it a day.
while these two didn't identify themselves with any particular church group, it was quite obvious that they were neither jws or lds.

Is there any humor in the bible?
by Normalfulla inhumor plays a big part in a lot of humanity and we all like a good laugh but as far as i'm aware god's supposed word has no actual humor ,of course apart from being a joke itself ,why wasn't there a passage or something like "jesus farted and giggles broke out among them " or something, is anyone aware of any notations of humor ?

Russell's Pyramidology Originated In Edinburgh Scotland
by cofty inthe edinburgh city observatory sits atop calton hill at the east end of the city centre adjacent to burn's monument, scotland's national monument modelled on the parthenon, and nelson's monument with the time ball that falls at 1pm every day except sundays.. .
the second astronomer royal of edinburgh was charles piazzi smyth (jan. 1819 - feb. 1900).
smyth was a man of many and varied interests including meteorology, producing weather observations that still form an important part of uk climate records to this day.. building on the work of james taylor, smyth became fascinated by the great pyramid of egypt at giza.

Interesting post cofty...and imo absolutely on the money relative to this discussion forum. I have researched this subject in conjunction with my interest in Egyptology and have, because of my knowledge of C T Russells pyramid observations and his conclusions i focused on these connections with Smyth etc. Intresting that the foundation of the wtbts jws was really based on a ' pyramid scheme '. I believe the then bible students were given the opportunity to purchase pieces of the waste stone used to construct the pyramid structure next to russels gravestone, not sure of its veracity. Perhaps someone still has a piece?

I came across some posts by my nephew from many years ago before i joined this forum. It made me sad to read what he was going through with his father ( my brother ). I have never acknowledged this to him. Time has gone on and he has matured, has his own life and as far as im aware is doing fine his parents divorced and lead their own lives. My brother to my knowledge still regards the jws as having the 'truth ' but definitely lives contrary to their teachings ,i think to be honest he cant bring himself to admit he's been wrong all along. Its just another sad case of jw influence causing consternation among families.

After being in the so-called "Truth" makes me despise all religions.
by Fader812 inafter being a jw made me lose trust in religion, from the lies, hypocrisy and greed of this organization made me lose faith completely.
what does one do after this mind f$%@, what is there to look forward to?
do i make up my own agnostic theory in head and hope for the best?

In my opinion it is all based on ancient myth and calculated through ignorance. Powerful overlords have ensured it exists to the present day. I am truly staggered that so many still buy into it in the face of evidence to the contrary. No one chose to be born.... we know we will die... make best use of the interim, their is much to be gained and enjoyed if we are positive in our existence. I wish you well.

They ( the jws) are closely adhering to the biblical instruction and example of 1st cent' Christians and jesus teaching to ...stand chatting amongst themselves, and not to approach people, but to hope the people will be interested enough to avail themselves of the jw.org method by which they too may be privileged enough to stand in the street not approaching people. A fine 1st century example indeed.

"But it gives my life meaning"
by Coded Logic init's not enough that we simply raise empirical challenges to these iron age beliefs saying, "jesus didn't really rise from the dead" or "muhammad didn't really fly to heaven on a horse.
" we must also give no quarter to this falsehood that religion can give peoples lives real meaning.
the truths about our identity, experience, and the future impacts that our decision will have on the world around us are much deeper and more profound than any culture or religion.

Inspiration, good works, comfort ,sense of meaning ,good deeds, sense of purpose. ....who would not strive for these fine qualities, all you need is the overarching falsehood of religion and bingo a wonderful life....why did i or many of us decide to reject this utopia.

@cofty... if Perry is true to his word, would you be up for it ? If so record audio/ video all meetings and discussion in order that Perry would be left in no doubt about evidence and conclusions. Can't wait to see how this pans out.....although in all probability he's lying for jesus.

Has the Bible been redacted so that YAHWEH can be promoted to EL's position as Almighty God?
by I_love_Jeff infor background, read: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/yahweh, the section, "iron age i: el, yahweh, and the origins of israel.
" "el and his sons made up the assembly of the gods, each member of which had a human nation under his care, and a textual variant of deuteronomy 32:8–9 describes the sons of el, including yahweh, each receiving his own people.
"el, the kind, the compassionate,' 'the creator of creatures,' was the chief of the canaanite gods, and he, not yahweh, was the original 'god of israel'—the word 'israel' is based on the name el rather than yahweh.

@ David jay-...." jehovahs witnesses can sure screw up the bible and its intended purpose " ...'intended purpose ' now there's a can of worms, who indeed decides the purpose of a conglomeration of ancient writings written over millenniums ago, having been added to, subtracted from, argued over, authenticity questioned...any purpose extracted has got to be dubious at best !
