  DId you ever fall asleep at the meetings, Assemblys??

  if i'm tierd i fall asleep anywere so the meetings ect were no diffrent my wife would always try to wake me but im a deep sleeper.

  How smart were the ancients?

  growing up as a jw, i always thought the ancients were scientific morons who knew next to nothing.

  ashamedly, i used to run around citing isaiah 40:22 as proof of the bible's 'divine authorship' because it talked about "the circle of the earth".

  as though this were somehow an unknowable before spaceflight.

  Ancient civilisations and their feats of construction from design, calculation,engineering knowhow tooling to completion of projects is always a fascination with me. As far as the earth being a sphere, surely ancient mariners could calculate from the horizon effect of appearance and disappearance and the fact that the watercraft did not fall off the edge of the world that the planet was spherical. Their ancient knowledge of construction and related sciences tells me they would be able to calculate the world to be a sphere without solely relying on biblical text.

  (a lot of my jw friends have forgotten i'm on their followers list) .

  smiling faces standing next to convention posters with comments like 'nope, i'm not giving up.

  Some addicted smokers or alcoholics would happily stand in front of tobacco or alcohol advertising posters and say " nope I'm not giving up " its the same deal with the addiction jws have for their internet product.

  As we are now on ' going to war ' if someone comes to your door and physically threatens you and your family. .. how would you react ? ...by inviting them in ? Lets scale it up et voila !! Thats unfortunately the human race hence war and confrontation. .. there is no god yaweh jehovah or take your pick, no armaggedon, paradise or petting lions and tigers....get real and get over it !!!

  @sbf...." must be something bigger than ourselves " Is that not humanistic reasoning that got this whole 'god' sorry mess thing started back in the mists of time. Imo its about time the human race got real and kicked it into touch. We have the ability as a modern educated race to do so without hindrance from posts such as this claptrap! !

  The Witneses reckon that they are the only ones going door-to-door!

  i just had a visit from two guys who are engaged in a door-to-door campaign in the area, preaching "the gospel", and offering, to quote "the best news you are ever going to hear".

  this was at 3:30 pm local time, an hour at by which all jws would have long called it a day.

  while these two didn't identify themselves with any particular church group, it was quite obvious that they were neither jws or lds.

  I had a lovely older lady come to my door (actually i was in the garden ) she presented me with a tract, content of which was jesus message etc, and an invitation to their meeting hall. I accepted the tract and thanked her without going into a discussion . She then went on to other doors. There has not been a jw at my door for years, although i suppose i could be on the ' do not call list'

  humor plays a big part in a lot of humanity and we all like a good laugh but as far as i'm aware god's supposed word has no actual humor ,of course apart from being a joke itself ,why wasn't there a passage or something like "jesus farted and giggles broke out among them " or something, is anyone aware of any notations of humor ?

  all to.serious really.

  Jonah was swallowed by a big fish.... now there's a laugh.... noah built a big floating structure. .. there's another laugh.... jesus brought a dead corpse back to life.... ha ha ha i cant stop laughing, the bible is a comical riot of a book !!!
