Why don't you check up the Tyndale Old Testament Commentary on all of the relevant texts on the 70 yeara and compare such commentary with the Word Biblical commentaru on 2 Kings, 2 Chronicles, Jeremiah and Daniel. You ask these scholars who attended this conference why is there so much confusion regarding this period: its nature, beginning and end. THERE IS NO CONSENSUS AMONGST SCHOLARS AS TO THE SEVENTY YEARS DESPITE THE jONSSON HYPOTHESIS. You ask these people to explain this enigma.

I am somewhat surprised that you require as to the Society's calculation of 607 when you already claim to have some knowledge of the matter and have the publications at hand. Do not worry about Alan F's nonsense on the preposition 'until' even Jonsson does not take such an approach . My suggestion is to read pp.220-224 and pp.285-288 in GTR, 3rd.edn., 1998. I do not know of any reputable scholar that supports Alan's exegesis of Chronicles.

You ask for secular history for calculating 607 please note the folowing:

Fall of Babylon in 539 and 537 for the decree of Cyrus allowing the captives to returning thus ending the seventy years of desolation'

I read with interest your post and the nonsense by Alan F who provides a dogmatic interpretation concerning 2 Chronicles 36:20, 21 which lies outside contemporary biblical scholarship. Thus far ,it is only Jonsson and a couple of SDA scholars that promote such a view. A direct reading of those texts shows that the land lay desolate for seventy years concluding with the decree of Cyrus. Support for this view can be discerned in that recent publication on Late Judean history that I have mentioned. Simply turn to the Scripture index and read how these verses are discusssed I have not found the implied endorsement on this texts by WT critics within the literature because scholars cannot agree as to the beginning and end of the seventy years and that and only that fixes 607. You can have all of the so called seculat evidence which is always subject to revision bu if it conflicts with the direct interpretation othe land being decolate for seventy years then you may as well pu it in the rubbish bin with the Jonsson hypotheisis. Please be in mind that Greg Stafford also showed that that text has an alternative interpretation in his Three Dissertations.

Would you please identify yourself and state your academic qualifications. I have to agree with AlanF that much of your chronology is simply drivel designed to confuse rather than illuminate. I know that many would say the same for WT chronology even though once they believed it but your theories lie outside any scholarship and is simply empty and vacuous meandering. At least WT chronolgy has a long tradition and is slowly challenging orthodoxy but your stuff is frankly nonsense.

I could respond in kind to each of the points you have made but frankly you have made up your mind that regardless of anykind of evidence or opinions of other scholars regarding chronology, you will believe in 586/587. That is fine with me . I am freankly not interested in trying to convert anyone to 607 chronology but what I do reject is the wholesale dogmatism surrounding 587/586 when it has no more proof than 607. Afterall, 697 is a calculated date based on the evidence of scripture and secular history and if I have to explain that to you then what level of knowledge do you possess.? The society has explained how 607 is calculated and there is not any evidence published by anyone that can diminish its viability. Jonsson like some SDA scholars have tried to do this but their attempts show a lack of logic, are deceitful and dishonest. If you really are dair dinkum then please do the research and I will advise you where necessary.

My comments about Wiseman's ability in regard to his skill as a exegete stands. I am quite aware that a scholar of Wiseman's stature would because of his scholarshipt receive invitations to participate in many projects as you have pointed out. But all of this does not make him an expert in every field of scholarship does it?

This conference you have attended is a bit of a worry if in fact these scholars trivialize the date 607 which really differs from the Devil's dates of 587/586 by a mere 20 years. What ,do they have some absolute chronology at hand because if they reallly are chronologists they should be more circumspect. What is turning this whole issue on its head is the matter of historiography for the late Judean period and this is now a subject of keen interest to scholars. This is another weak link in the Jonsson hypothesis name the lack of historiography in his discussion of the seventy years apart from a biased interpretation of the seventy years based on Jeremiah 29:10.

Really, I think someone is pulling your chain.

Thanks for your questions: You ask about Wiseman's qualifications? Firstly, this can be readily seen in his publications. Has he written any scriptural commentary either in a book or in a journal article? His reputation as a reputable scholar is based in his field of expertise namely Ancient History and Assyriology only. He would have paid Jonsson the ultimate compliment by publishing a Literature Review of his book seeinh that Jonsson lacks credentials.

The website by David Petrie is utter nonsense and so his the quote from his site on 2 Chron abaseless interpretation. This is a hood example of circular reasoning which follows Jonsson's example. If you read the GTR, 1998, 3rd edn, pp.220, 223, 224 whereupon without evidence of any kind he postulates that the 'royalty of the kings of Persia began to reign was in 539, I fact, this phrase can only the decree issued in the first year of Cyrus. I have already referred to a recent publication on the history of the period and scholars support this view, Please refer to the subject on the seventy years in the Bible Research section

I note with interest your reply concerning the endorsement by Wiseman of the Jonsson hypothesis and I wish to make the following request. Ihave long pursued the query as to whether any scholar as subjected Jonsson'd book to a peer review in some internationally recognized journal. If you look at nearly all journals, they normally have a section where book reviews are covered. I am somewhat surprised that Wiseman has not done this or anyone else. So, at your conference why don't you ask somebody to publsh a review in a major journal.

Wiseman certainly has competence in Assyrriology but not in biblical exegesis. 2 Chronicles36:20,21 is for example well attested by scholars and its interpretation supports the view of the Society namely that the land was desolate for seventy years until Cyrus' first year. Afact that no one including Jonsson and his dupe, the Missippissi gambler can refute.

We all look forward to the pub;ication of Furuli's book as it will no doubt provide an alternative viewpoint to the Jonsson hypothesis. I thought I should alert you to the fact that Furuli does not esteem himself as a scholar which implies that somehow his qualifications are not bona fide. In fact, Furuli has posted his academic qualifications and scholarly publications on his website, he is employed as a senior lecturer in Semitic studies at the University of Oslo. He cannot be more qualified to research matters in biblical studies. He did not obtain his degrees from a mail order university as is the case in some states in USA. Johnsson, on the other hand does not possess axademic qualiifications in the fields that he claims to be expert at and his GTR to my knowledge has not been subject to any peer review in the literature; Johnsson's book suffers from a lack of critical analysis as shown by the flawed exegesis in the chapter on the seventy years. Jonsson is simply a amateur scholar not a professional scholar'
