  Inconsistencies is the Preachng Work

  with the shutdown of the public preaching work.

  some take it to mean all preaching in all forms.

  other take it to mean it only includes door to door and cart witnessing, but you can do phone witnessing.. what is interesting is that depending which country you live in the direction that was given what to do is different.. two countries (malta and ireland) that i know of were told explicitly not to do phone witnessing.

  I thought they were supposed to obey God as ruler rather than men ? Or is it they are supposed to obey the Superior Authorities God has put in place ? But if the Superior Authorities go against God and tell JWs not to go out to preach God's message who do they listen to ? Obviously Almighty God trumps the SA, unless God doesn't exist, then . . .

  Steel: Not to sound like a racist dick but I wonder how many were in Africa.
  Every religion can claim amazing growth by just looking at African stats.

  After a quick glance it appears most of the growth is in the latin areas, Central & South America.

  Mexico & Brazil alone = 1.7 million avg. publishers with 25.4k congregations & 3% growth

  Compared to USA = 1.2 million avg. publishers with 12.6k congregations & 0% reported growth.

  My email to JW Following Trolley Conversation

  a few weeks ago i had an really interesting conversation with three male jws who were loitering around a trolley at the west end of princes street in edinburgh.. i managed to completely avoid giving any hint about my jw past and focussed on why they thought the bible was a reliable moral guide.

  i used the subject of slavery to illustrate my concerns.. one of the three was in his early twenties, knew a lot about his own beliefs but nothing about the real life and it was difficult to get through his thought-bubble.

  the second one was in his 60s and not very bright.

  cofty: It's easier to challenge the Bible than to attack the organisation directly.

  After many years of trial & error, I have found this is definitely the best approach and wish others would practice it, otherwise the mental defensive walls come up and there is no getting past them if your true intent is to get the other person to think reasonably.

  What I also find fascinating is that if I criticize God directly and not the Organization, then the mental defensive walls do not come up and we can have good lengthy conversations. However once anything critical, no matter how small, is said of the organization, then the JW goes into mental lock down. For a long time I was in denial, but these experiments have opened my eyes that JW's are indeed brainwashed, which in turn makes me feel deep empathy for that person as I was also like them once.

  I also find it funny that you can criticize God for many injustices recorded in the old testament (slavery, killing David/Bathsheeba's son, etc.), which in their mind is the Creator, Father, above anyone else, infallible, perfect in every way, and they will keep the conversation going all day long. Yet if you simply say that the JW Orgainzation has made mistakes in the past, their mind shuts off and fight or flight kicks in. Suddenly you realize they have mentally unknowingly put the Org above God.

  Thank you for sharing cofty, I hope this helps others adopt a similar approach for dealing with the JW's as it has a higher batting average in my experience.

  i imagine someone has done this already, but i couldn't find it in a search.

  feel free to move to another thread if i'm posting in the wrong one.. i've been watching leah remini's scientology show (eerily very similar psychological traits to jw's) and one episode talked about how australia now requires non-profit organizations to make their finances public, so i decided to look for jw's reports.. link to jw's reports:.

  Sorry, I'm not sure how to make images clearer on this website. It seems to shrink it to fit.

  Initial thoughts:

  1) More donations and income are made each year, yet their expenses are growing even larger resulting in net losses.

  2) Their percentage of total income from Donations is dropping. Are they making the extra income from selling properties ? And yet they are still losing money. This would seem so, since their total assets continues to drop.

  i'm a postman so i get 4 to 5 hours every day with my headphones on and i'm really chewing through some stuff.

  i'm after science (evolutionary biology and anthropology especially), history of religion and comedy.

  old sci-fi audio books are also a favourite.
