Seeking your opinions on contacting relatives

it's been eight years since i have spoken to any of my relatives.

some (cousins, nieces, nephews) were young children at the time; now some are 18 and older.

they are not allowed to speak to me, but of course those rules don't apply in the reverse.

I think that dear old Mom may be a little nervous. She realizes that she no longer has control over ANY of us kids. She did for many many destructive years and finally the ball is in our court. WE have the control. To be honest, I believe she will grow old and die a lonely old woman. She has three grandchildren (mine) that she just can't seem to have a relationship with (not by any resistance from me). She has three adult children that are angry and hurt and are making her accountable for her actions. OUCH!

restoring a hard drive

some of you fine peeps are aware that my damn hard drive crashed a few weeks back.

no warning.......just crashed.

of course, i didn't have a chance to back up my files which i lost all of them.

No, they didn't tell me what was wrong. All that was told to me was that they couldn't recover anything on it. My computer sits in a small corner of my kitchen that gets very very hot and I am thinking that maybe the heat and humidity could have done it in. We are on satellite connection w/others networked to my computer, so it is always on......or should I say WAS always on. I think maybe the old girl just got tired out and died.........

RIP!

John Prine anyone?

i am a huge john prine fan.......i know, it is strange and very outdated, but i just love the guy.

(quit laughing at me eyegirl!).

just curious is anyone else out there enjoys his music.. my hubby took me to see him last year.......what a show!

Oh the LOVE! To see him in person is great........something very real about him.

My favorite song (which is hard given that I have so many favorites of Mr. Prine) right now is "In Spite of Ourselves". Kinda a theme song for me and my Filthy (husband).

Some of you fine peeps are aware that my damn hard drive crashed a few weeks back. No warning.......just crashed. Of course, I didn't have a chance to back up my files which I lost all of them. What hurts the most is the hundreds of pictures that I had of my family dating about 5 years.

I had a new hard drive installed and brought the old one home. I asked for an estimate for restoring the old one and I was told to send it into a lab would cost me about $800! Hmmmm.......I better start scrounging the couch cushions soon! LOL

I wanted to know if anyone has had to have the hd restored before and could refer me to somewhere. I am in no hurry, but definately don't want to lose what I have sitting in this piece of metal that is staring at me from my desk. Any ideas?

and no i don't mean the man, the poster animal!!!!!!!!!!!!!

although he is loveable............... i love animals, i have two dogs, a black lab named snoopy and a pug, named pug.

sometimes we call him pig, or dig, or mama's little baby.

Mark me down too as an animal lover!

Three budgies.......our little boy (2 yrs old) named the first two "One" and "Two" . I fell instantly in love with them and went out and bought a beautiful blue one. I made sure he wasn't named "Three" so I named him "Blueberry" quickly!

I also have a whore-haired mix of a dog named "Winnie". When I worked at the animal clinic, Winnie was a stray that had been abandoned and was due to be put down. I called Filthy and told him that I just "had" to take her home. She is the best little dog around!

Thanks to our District Overbeer, our family is the proud own of two (one is actually eyegirl's but is staying w/his "auntie" for awhile) hedgehogs-"Quilly"(ours) and "Sonic"(eyegirl's).

And a tankful of fish..........

Three kids and a husband. Does that count?

That is so great that you had a good time and that you thought of us and shared it with everyone!

X-meetup would be really great to attend. Here in Northern Minnesota the only people signed up are me and my seester (eyegirl)! LOL........I guess we could pretend like we didn't know each other and were meeting for the first time!

if i was to meet some of you ladies for the first time, i might be tempted to buy you a bunch of flowers, what spray tickles your fancy the most?

i know for englishmans missus, her ladyship, her bunch of flowers would include freshias.

please give me some advice on the appropriate action i should take if i met you for the first time.

What is a JW childhood like?

i was wondering what it is like to experience childhood in the org.

i am an aspiring writer ad the org has always interested me...not in the sense that i'd like to join.

Wow.........what memories. Having my first cup of coffee this morning and trying to choke back the tears because I can relate to so many of you.

W/out specifics (which have already been mentioned) growing up a dub failed to teach me how to take care of myself emotionally. My wants and needs were always somewhere down the list. I always was trying to please someone. Trying NOT to stumble someone. I felt like I lived in a fish bowl. Subsequently, I learned how to become co-dependent. I also learned how to be a great martyr. This in turned created big troubles for me as an adult because I lacked the skills to function as a "normal" adult. When I left the borg at 18, emotionally I felt like I was about 12/13! It took me many many years to "catch up" to where I should be. Being raised in the "Truth" I had no worldly friends. Being df'd I lost everything in my life. I never felt more alone cause I had no one for so long.

Conditional love. Feeling that the only way to keep people loving you is to do what is expected of you. If not, you suffer the consequences of being turned away. This way of thinking broke up me and my two siblings. Because I was the "bad seed" I was kept away from them.

And, I can't believe no one mentioned this...........NO PLAYING WITH SMURFS! They were considered a "no-no"...remember having the beezeebees scared out of us? LOL

I like the silent lambs idea. I don't know if I would be so brave as to have the Watchtower/Jehovah one on my car......but the Silent Lambs one YES!

Anytime a drunk driver kills it is a tragedy.....a senseless death that could have been prevented.

I know because March 9 is the anniversary of the crash of my husband........yes, by the hands of a drunk driver. We were married 8 months and I was pregnant w/our first (and only) child. He never got to see our first anniversary or hold his daughter. This all because some idiot was too drunk to drive home!
