  help identifying berries.........

  i need some help identifying a berry bush that is in my backyard.

  i have tasted the berries and they are on the sour side, they also have a pit on the inside of them (or at least the one i tried did........gonna wait awhile before i try another).

  whatever they are they have come ripe w/in the past week.

  I am going to give the University of MN Extension Office a call tomorrow and see who they can refer me to for a positive indentification........I sure do hope that they are currants! I think that Scully may be right.......but I want to get another opinion.

  Living out in the woods has been so neat this year.......I have found a huge, wild raspberry bush (have to share w/the bears though), wild blackberries that we picked by the handfuls on Sunday and ate sitting in the sunshine, and blueberries too! I told eyegirl pretty soon I will be munching on pinecones! LOL

  I also have a bush that has berries similar to the red ones (birds also eat them) but they are more white. Maybe I will take a clipping in too of them..........

  Lilacs....you are a sweetie.....but let me tell you......MY THREE WOULD BE THE THREE THAT WOULD BE TOO MUCH FOR YOU! lol

  I have to admit, now I am a little nervous to eat them! I wonder where I can take them to make positively sure of what they are...........

  damn...I exceeded my bandwidth for the day........so those of you looking now won't see the berries until tomorrow!

Whatever they are they have come ripe w/in the past week. It is about 5 feet tall, has 3 pointed leaves, red berries. Jgnat thought they may be currants by the way I was describing them, but I am not sure.

  Does this look familar to anyone? Any ideas? Anyone want to be a guinea pig and try them out for me?

  just had a good phone call with a friend i met on this board...got me to thinking about my life as a jw.

  he's been "out" almost as long as i was "in.".

  i was a reg pub at 6 years old, decided (yes, a very deliberate decision) to go to bethel when i was 8 years old, and was baptized at 10 years old (in 1962).

  I really like the way you put that! I couldn't agree more with that statement. For me, life was exhausting as a dub. I never knew how to live for today.....I was always striving for more. Whatever I did well, I felt I could do better. I beat myself up all the time. I was my worse critic. And worst of all, I never allowed myself to be human and make mistakes w/out feeling so guilty about it and wondering who I stumbled. Everything was an "oppertunity" in my eyes.......and a missed oppertunity was a terrible waste.

  I think the absolute worse part of growing up as dub for me is that I never was comfortable being alone......I never developed a relationship with me. I left the board feeling like a cardboard cutout of a person. Void of any personality. For many years I think I was a chameleon-taking on the personality of those around me. It wasn't until I spent time alone with myself and really found out who I am, what I like, what I dislike that I started to take on my own being. I use to feel like I just wandered the earth w/no purpose-now I know who I am and why I am important.

  I also came to the realization that sometimes I have to sit still in my life. Let things flow around me. I am trying to learn what I can control and what I can't. Where to spend my energy and where not to waste it. To "act" and not "react" with situations that may come up.

  i always did wonder about this, i mean, what function do they have and further, if, just supposing that we are made in the image of god, does god himself have the equivalent of nipples?

  well, i guess it is time to share my story with you all.

  most of the recent events in my life i have already shared in bits and pieces throughout various threads here on the jwd.. i am 47 years old and have one sister who is 44. we grew up in a religously divided household.

  my father was and still is a jw and my mother is still a devout bible student.
