Ananias & Sapphire and JWs
by anointed1 inwhen people like ananias and sapphire tried to take the honor that did not belong to them, they were instantly struck with death-penalty.
(acts 5:1-11) when jws did the same taking the glory of being god’s spokesperson on earth (by proclaiming to the world something as though god revealed to them—eg “generation that saw the events of 1914 would not pass away”) god did not respond.
in the same vein, when moses and aaron said “they were going to bring water from the rock” (instead of jehovah), god punished them instantly.

In the same vein, when Moses and Aaron said “They were going to bring water from the rock” (instead of Jehovah), God punished them instantly. This would mean either the Bible account of Ananias & Sapphire and Moses & Aaron are wrong, or JWs are in for a big surprise.
Jehovah has in the past blocked ill-happening coming on His people. When Balaam went to curse His people, Jehovah blocked the curse by using his angel and a donkey. When JWs proceeded to travel in the direction of a cursed destination of non-fulfillment of their biggest prophecy about “the generation of 1914” (which Newsweek magazine described as the “lie of the century”), why did not Jehovah block it from happening?

The "anointed generation" is wrong, not because it is dragging on too long, but because it is too short.
by prologos injesus taught a surviving generation, a group inhering everlasting life, an escape route to avoid a global disaster worse than the flood, a generation that "will not pass away--" an infinite generation.
wt teaches a generation that dies, ends, passes away, at the first sign of real trouble, the great tribulation.. what do you believe about this wt assertion?
(apart from that there is no talking snake, it is all irrelevant).

Village Idiot has a point. They are trapped in the explanation of the generation--and there is no way of coming out.
They easy way is to take the date of 586 BEC as the fall of Jerusalem (as the Jews themselves take) not 607 BCE. This will give them enough time to prove "this generation" that was on hand in 1935 CE will not pass away.
However, this would mean they abandon their prestige year of 1914. If they are really God's people, they can do it--taking a corrective course will only add to their beauty.

Many of the atheists are doing better than religionists!
by anointed1 ini got up today to listen to the shocking news that russia’s ambassador to turkey was assassinated at an ankara art exhibit, and assassin was acting in the name of god.. it seems things have evolved to the other extreme that atheists are doing the work of religionists and vice versa.
while religionists take delight in killing fellow humans in the name of god, there were many atheists who followed very elevated morality.
the french existentialists and writers jean-paul sartre and albert camus were some of them.

You say “People with no religion are just as capable of decapitating, gutting, and denying what they do to humans as people who claim to believe in God can … No suit will make you more moral or less violent or more enlightened than any other.”
I was just contrasting [not about labels]. A person who does not believe in God has no obligation to care for anyone whereas a person who believes in God feels obliged to care for others. In this context one can ask: How can atheists care for others whereas religionists go in opposite direction? Situation is similar to Fire-force personnel who shy away from putting out fire on somebody else’s property whereas the passersby venture into and put off the fire.

I agree with you: Everything is a joke.
See what believers in God do--they make God feel USED (just like carpet), not loved saying I want this, that ...etc. Some people praise Him as though he is in need of their validation.

“as it were, “in the Kingdom of the heavens” is your belief rather your interpretation—taking Jesus words and giving your meaning to it.
This is like saying: Jesus said: Traffic Red light means STOP.
Now if you were to interpret, you would say: ‘what Jesus said is Traffic Red light means “STOP” as it were. Thus you get totally a different meaning.

I got up today to listen to the shocking news that Russia’s ambassador to Turkey was assassinated at an Ankara art exhibit, and assassin was acting in the name of God.
Most Greek and Roman philosophers and writers like Diogenes, Epicurus, Sophocles …. etc. never believed in the gods of Greeks and Romans and yet they were great moralists, who followed universal values. Gautama Buddha never believed in any god or supernatural power. In fact, the core of Buddha's philosophy is atheism. Yet, Buddha is still considered to be an epitome of compassion and rectitude.
In contrast, many who believe in God have no problem in trampling upon the rights of others either in a violent way or in a subtle way as some do by refusing even to greet their former associates (which is worse than physical killing).
It seems there is no solution because people have lost their ability to understand. Many read in their Bible that Jesus was the “servant of God” (Act 3:13) yet they understand that He was God himself. Then there are other who read that good people of old testament will go to “heaven” (Mathew 8:11), and understand heaven as earth.

Why was corruption of scriptures not prevented?
by anointed1 inmany bracketed portions in the scriptures, influence of foreign myths and unscientific teachings … etc show that scriptures have been corrupted.
even when they are not corrupted, religious teachings have often no effect even on direct disciples (when jesus was teaching, his immediate disciples were thinking about who was going to be first in the organization—something that happened in all religions which led into their infighting and divisions).
at the same time there are many good people among materialists, why?

careful
You say: I am “arguing for divinity by some supposedly positive facets of creation while ignoring other facets of nature that do not fit in their/your model”
No, I was actually saying why some materialists are better than religionists. (see my OP: “At the same time there are many good people among materialists, why? Because they are led by an uncorruptible teaching available everywhere)
I have a different perspective about materialist: they are the creation of religionists.
When religionists go into one extreme (doing inhuman things such as violation of human rights) this become the cause for the other extreme to appear—materialist. Thus existence of atheists offsets against the extremities of the religionists—thus atheists do a great favor to the humanity. In God’s eyes, materialists are better than religionists because religionists use God as a means to get material blessings from God (means their actual love is towards things of God, not God) which means God is used, not loved.

Jesus Christ was no Moses
by smiddy inmoses has a history of what 80+ years as a servant of jehovah ?
in one form or another .. moses wrote / penned the first five books of the bible and went through many trials and tribulations in serving his god jehovah in his long lifetime.interacting with god at times.. jesus was born and nothing is recorded of him until he is a young adolescent child ?
and very little about him.. then we are introduced to him when he is 30 years old and gets baptised ,and only then does he start his preaching .. does he start preaching to the world ?

Yet there is an interesting similarity
Moses performed many miracles, yet people did not change (except Joshua and Caleb) because of which God abandoned them in the desert.
Jesus too performed many miracles—including resurrection, yet none of the recipients came for his support nor for preaching after his death.
