  came across this little gem while my wife was "digging for bible gems" in her weekly meeting preparation.

  nothing new but i gently pointed it out to her as a reminder that bible reading can be hazardous to your mental health!.

  Somebody wasn't getting any action so they told David that God says that they must F$%$ all 1,000 of his wives. It was the only way to get to do that and not get caught/killed in the act.

  If cherry picking phrases and doing tons of mental gymnastics to support anything they can think of counts as that.

  For example the current shun all who leave policy for the rest of their lives.

  They take a scripture talking about not calling a brother a person who was bragging about Jesus sacrifice being so great that he is F#$$ his stepmother and still one of them. But then he stops and is sorry and they should take him back. Then taking a scripture talking about if somebody knocks on their door to preach to them about Jesus not having returned or having been true to not let them in for discussion. With many 'evidentlies', all of that equates to "If your mother, father, son, anybody disagrees with our interpretation of the bible and does not believe that God speaks directly to us alone and his commandments can only be understood through us alone, then you must shun them for the rest of their lives, not even looking for an excuse to email them, or God will kill you forever at Armageddon"

  Other churches/sects/ of Islam, Christianity and other religions (and Russia itself) have also been playing with fire for quite longer than Borg - let's see if they got burned, as well.

  stillMS - you seem to be defending WT a lot.

  Here are some differences between JW and Islam/Christianity. JW worldwide all report and answer directly to the GB. They take the words of the GB, watchtower, etc, as above the bible since they are told they can't understand the bible and must take the words from the GB as from God himself. Islam isn't controlled by a single entity but many. Christianity has many leaders and few if any as authoritian as JWs. Are Mormons in Russia? They are very close, that would be interesting to see how they are treated.

  Anyway, I am curious to hear what your grand conspiracy theory is behind Russia targeting the JW's as you put it. If it's not the practices, family shunning, no blood, etc, do you think Russia is worried JW's could overthrow the government?

  Religions should not be banned. The undesirable behaviors should be banned. They are targeting the wrong thing.

  Russia did target the wrong behavior. The shunning, the extreme practices and teachings. Since borged refused to remove the bad things, they were banned.

  when i was an elder back in the 1970's i loved to debate and challenge ministers, preachers, and holy rollers.

  now you can be a loyal jdub fully indoctrinated for 30 years but just take a peek at an apostate website and you are doomed.

  yes, satan now has you by the gonads and all of the years of being at the meetings, all of the family worship nights, all of the conventions, and all of the personal study just go up in a cloud of smoke.

  I was raised being told how apostates are so smart and cunn8ng their lies will knock somebody out of the faith. Even hearing a few words can ruin you. I always thought if they are lies then truth can easily defeat them.

  Lucid dreams and virtual reality

  long ago when i learned about lucid dreams i was fascinated by them and sought to try to induce them.

  over the years i've had quite a few.

  i can't definitely force one to happen on any particular night.

  I need help here!

  So last night I was getting lucid. I had a very vivid dream. If you are familiar with what happens when you start to become lucid, is that you may get false awakenings. Where your mind tricks you into thinking you woke up from a dream, and you're back in full dream state. My mind outsmarted me last night. As I was getting lucid, the surroundings were changing and I started to question my reality. Usually a reality check would confirm I was dreaming then I get full control. Last night as that is happening somebody tells me that the tea I drank contained hallucinogens. That explained and verified things were changing when they shouldn't be, but I was hallucinating.

  So now I need to think of a reality check that hallucinations wouldn't answer or this will be my version of the 'false awakenings' from now on if everytime I am getting lucid it's claimed it was from having hallucinogens lol.

  one thing that has intrigued me are so many who have left, who are wholly convinced everything in existence is merely by chance now, also claim they wouldn't want to live forever, and perfectly fine if this is the only life.

  now, i would understand that if you were raised into the religion.

  One huge problem with your statement is that the reality of our futures does not depend on what we believe. It is what it actually is. I bought into their promise but then realized it isn't true.
  You can say I don't know what the future after death is. For an absolute certainty, I cannot prove that I do know it. But we live and we die, we exist no more. If that is wrong, then some megalomaniac demanding my licking his boots during this life to grant me part of that afterlife while he is practicing his high level neglect of mankind, it's just not worth it to me.

  I am assuming this life is it, though I hope for more. I was talking about those who if eternal life was possible (not limited to jw or religions version but any) but those who say they wouldn't want it. I think it's a shame we weren't born further into the future. If we truly are alone and everything happened by chance, and how rapid science is advancing, at some point I think extended life if not eternal life can be discovered.

  Swat - tell him to tell us what to do then. Old books written by men, changed, revised, no idea true source over thousands of years. Can't very well do what the almighty wants if he doesnt tell us anything.

  Or do you believe group of men who have been wrong about everything and always flipflopping, etc, speak for him?
