If you have been inactive as in not attending meetings for 17 years, I would think your mother and other family members would know that by now.
You are correct in that I'm not d'fed, but I think that allows my mom to play dumb as to my status as a dub and I wouldn't want to disrupt that. On the other hand due to your response and others here I am less worried now.

I received two handwritten letters with literature from an elder in my old hall that I do not know.
I'm not worried about elders from my old congregation in Florida contacting me because not only is it likely that they don't know me, more importantly I am certain that they don't have a current mailing address or phone number for me. There is no way that they know where I am, it's just that I was a little worried that they would pull my old cards out of the inactive file, attempt to contact me, then realize that the address and phone numbers that they have for me are old and outdated. At that point they might find my letter of introduction, see the hall that I originally came from (let's just say somewhere in the northeastern US) and send my cards back there just to get rid of an inactive file. My mom and my other active family members are still in that same congregation where I grew up, so if my file got sent back there I might have a problem with my mom and other active family. All of that said I'm less worried now after having read everyone's responses to my original post.

Considering the fact that my last publisher record cards would be in Florida and I haven't had any connection to anyone in Florida in years, I think it's likely that my cards are lost in a file drawer or maybe even the dumpster which would be nice.

So at congs all over the country and around the world do they all have a bunch of publisher's cards for inactive dubs just sitting in a file drawer and forgotten?

So if the policy is as follows:
"The last card of an inactive publisher should be retained in the current file indefinitely."
What do the elders do with all of those cards in their inactive files? Every congregation must have a bunch of cards for people that disappeared years ago, some of whom none of the elders even remember. Look at me, I moved 500 miles away nearly 20 years ago, do they remember me or my dad? Think about it, they must have cards for dead people!
So formal regulations aside what do the elders really do with all of those inactive cards, especially the really old ones. Do they throw them out even know they aren't supposed to? Do they try to find some other congregation where they think the inactive witness might be and send the cards there? What do they do with this stuff?

whilst driving to work this morning listening to the radio, my ears pricked when the presenter began talking about jws.
it was on a programme which airs between 8.00 and 8.30 entitled am, and broadcast on the abc national radio.
I think over the long term this will be the model for WTBTS all over the world. The GB will issue "guidance" from Warwick, NY but the individual congregations will be left to take care of themselves. If a given congregation is sued out of existence the Warwick gang will simply say that the litigation is the "work of satan" and then move on.

As far as I know my last publisher's record cards are at a cong down in Florida near my dad's old house, but he was DF'd years ago and doesn't care and he isn't in Florida anymore anyway. I live nowhere near Florida and and my JW family is far from there as well. So my question is what is the likely status of my publisher's record cards? Are they likely to still be in the box at the cong down in Florida? If the elders in Florida figure out that my JW family is still in the cong that I grew up in will they try to send my cards back there? If my cards are sent back there I'm afraid my JW family, namely my mom, will shun me when they officially know that I am in fact inactive. What does anyone here think? I know the short answer is "don't worry about it" but that doesn't help. I don't want to lose all contact with my mom.

"As to the Watchtower coughing up $$$ through asset sale it cant happen. The Watchtower society in Australia has minimal assets of printing equipment and office equipment. Everything else is owned by separate (legally separate) entities that cant be drawn into the compensation."
Does anyone think that WTBS would shut down the Australian branch office and administer the Australian congregations from Warwick, NY? It wouldn't be beneath them to just let the local congregations in Australia fend for themselves. If necessary they could subcontract with a printing company in Australia to produce their material to be distributed there.
