Hi SB
I see you hate badly JW's
You will never understand God's power and his purpose with regards to human race. He sent Jesus to save the human race and to gather all peaceful people from around the earth. Human race always tried to take charge and never waited fo God's help. They never put total trust in Him. That's why so much violence and war throughout human history.
"He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of Jehovah, He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in whom I trust. For he will deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, And from the deadly pestilence. He will cover thee with his pinions, And under his wings shalt thou take refuge: His truth is a shield and a buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night, Nor for the arrow that flieth by day; For the pestilence that walketh in darkness, Nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, And ten thousand at thy right hand; But it shall not come nigh thee. For thou, O Jehovah, art my refuge! Thou hast made the Most High thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, Neither shall any plague come nigh thy tent. For he will give his angels charge over thee, To keep thee in all thy ways. Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble: I will deliver him, and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him, And show him my salvation."
Psalms 91:1-7, 9-11, 14-16
"This poor man cried, and Jehovah heard him, And saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of Jehovah encampeth round about them that fear him, And delivereth them. Oh taste and see that Jehovah is good: Blessed is the man that taketh refuge in him. Oh fear Jehovah, ye his saints; For there is no want to them that fear him."
Psalms 34:6-9
"Behold, Jehovah’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: but your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, so that he will not hear."
Isaiah 59:1-2 ASV
"Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help, and rely on horses, and trust in chariots because they are many, and in horsemen because they are very strong, but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek Jehovah! Yet he also is wise, and will bring evil, and will not call back his words, but will arise against the house of the evil-doers, and against the help of them that work iniquity. Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horses flesh, and not spirit: and when Jehovah shall stretch out his hand, both he that helpeth shall stumble, and he that is helped shall fall, and they all shall be consumed together."
Isaiah 31:1-3
"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith Jehovah, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope in your latter end. And ye shall call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart."

Should a Christian celebrate Christmas?
by Samsie inhello, i'm new here and have woken up to the real truth concerning the org.
i'm sort of fading away at the moment.... i need help with something, i used to as a child celebrate christmas and have always had amazing memories of it (my husband hasn't as he was born into the org) but i gave it up when i learnt the "truth".
my interest was only in pleasing god and still is.

Tenyearsafter,
"And the things which thou hast heard from me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. Suffer hardship with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No soldier on service entangleth himself in the affairs of this life; that he may please him who enrolled him as a soldier."
2 Timothy 2:2-4
There is a difference between secular life and life of a Christian.
As regards with celebrations, some are secular so they don't have any religious motives while others are religious celebrations which need to be carefully considered as it has to do with your worship to God. It also depends on the motivation and the history behind everything you celebrate. Paul also said that if someone wanted to hold a day for God to do it, if don't, it's his/hers choice. I find that Christmas is too commercially driven. Too many things mixed up. I don't see it as celebration dedicated to Christ. Christianity is not formalism as Vanderhoven always points out, so I took the freedom in not doing anything I don't find constructive in my relationship with God and his Son.

I understand your point. I know what brainwashing is. I have a master's degree in marketing and advertising psychology. It is simple if you make it look simple but there are always constraints in which we have to make our decisions. Even free will it's not that free.
I do strongly believe that God exists and I want to keep a correct relationship with Him while trying to understand the Bible's truth under His guidance.

"For neither doth the Father judge any man, but he hath given all judgment unto the Son; that all may honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He that honoreth not the Son honoreth not the Father that sent him. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth him that sent me, hath eternal life, and cometh not into judgment, but hath passed out of death into life. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour cometh, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God; and they that hear shall live. For as the Father hath life in himself, even so gave he to the Son also to have life in himself: and he gave him authority to execute judgment, because he is a son of man.
John 5:22-27

And also the GB have made a merchandise of their own people.
Therefore the LORD will cut off from Israel head and tail, branch and rush, in one day. The ancient and honourable, he is the head; and the prophet that teacheth lies, he is the tail. For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed.

You may not believe this. But this is what happened:
But there arose false prophets also among the people, as among you also there shall be false teachers, who shall privily bring in destructive heresies, denying even the Master that bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their lascivious doings; by reason of whom the way of the truth shall be evil spoken of. And in covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose sentence now from of old lingereth not, and their destruction slumbereth not.
2 Peter 2:1-3
It was not until 1954 when they started denying Jesus so the prophesy will be fulfilled.

I understand your point and I am open for criticism. My faith is based on the bible with big Jehovah's witness influences. However, this is how I understand the bible too. Where I can't agree with some of their current teachings I go back to the bible and pray to God for the correct understanding. I used to celebrate Christmas, New year but I just can't find a common ground between everything is done in this life and the relationship I have with God. I experience a lot of rejection since I stopped joining people I grew up with in this way of life. I find that everything is so aggressively forced upon you. I don't believe it does come from Almighty God. Nowadays I get blamed even when I say that I don't celebrate Halloween or Valentine's day which are clearly pagan celebrations. I find people very superficial and in great numbers just pleasure seeking. This is what people look for when they have this sort of celebrations. I don't think I am misinterpreting the bible. Bible can only be understood with God's help. No school of this world will reveal you the meaning of the bible although good education helps.
"so that your faith might rest not on human wisdom but on the power of God. The True Wisdom. Yet we do speak a wisdom to those who are mature, but not a wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age who are passing away. Rather, we speak God’s wisdom, mysterious, hidden, which God predetermined before the ages for our glory, and which none of the rulers of this age knew; for, if they had known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But as it is written: “What eye has not seen, and ear has not heard, and what has not entered the human heart, what God has prepared for those who love him,” this God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit scrutinizes everything, even the depths of God. Among human beings, who knows what pertains to a person except the spirit of the person that is within? Similarly, no one knows what pertains to God except the Spirit of God. We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit that is from God, so that we may understand the things freely given us by God. And we speak about them not with words taught by human wisdom, but with words taught by the Spirit, describing spiritual realities in spiritual terms. Now the natural person does not accept what pertains to the Spirit of God, for to him it is foolishness, and he cannot understand it, because it is judged spiritually. The spiritual person, however, can judge everything but is not subject to judgment by anyone. For “who has known the mind of the Lord, so as to counsel him?” But we have the mind of Christ."
1 Corinthians 2:5-16
For the Lord has poured out on you a spirit of deep sleep. He has shut your eyes (the prophets) and covered your heads (the seers). For you the vision of all this has become like the words of a sealed scroll. When it is handed to one who can read, with the request, “Read this,” the reply is, “I cannot, because it is sealed.” The Lord said: Since this people draws near with words only and honors me with their lips alone, though their hearts are far from me, And fear of me has become mere precept of human teaching, Therefore I will again deal with this people in surprising and wondrous fashion: The wisdom of the wise shall perish, the prudence of the prudent shall vanish.
Isaiah 29:10-11, 13-14
The bible clearly shows that we cannot understand it without God's help. It's a book only for those who dedicate completely to Him and make a clear split from everything that can spoil the true worship.
You say context. Yes. However, God's rules are universally valid they do not change as He doesn't change.
“But those with insight shall shine brightly like the splendor of the firmament, And those who lead the many to justice shall be like the stars forever."
Daniel 12:1-3 -

Yes Carla it's exactly the opposite. Do not let anyone to judge you for not observing Jewish festivals, new moons or Sabbaths according to the mosaic law. The Jews that became Christians tried to make the pagans who became Christians to observe the Jewish law too.

rooted in him and built upon him and established in the faith as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. See to it that no one captivate you with an empty, seductive philosophy according to human tradition, according to the elemental powers of the world and not according to Christ. Sovereign Role of Christ. For in him dwells the whole fullness of the deity bodily, and you share in this fullness in him, who is the head of every principality and power. In him you were also circumcised with a circumcision not administered by hand, by stripping off the carnal body, with the circumcision of Christ. You were buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead. And even when you were dead [in] transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, he brought you to life along with him, having forgiven us all our transgressions; obliterating the bond against us, with its legal claims, which was opposed to us, he also removed it from our midst, nailing it to the cross; despoiling the principalities and the powers, he made a public spectacle of them, leading them away in triumph by it. Practices Contrary to Faith. Let no one, then, pass judgment on you in matters of food and drink or with regard to a festival or new moon or sabbath. These are shadows of things to come; the reality belongs to Christ. Let no one disqualify you, delighting in self-abasement and worship of angels, taking his stand on visions, inflated without reason by his fleshly mind, and not holding closely to the head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and bonds, achieves the growth that comes from God. If you died with Christ to the elemental powers of the world, why do you submit to regulations as if you were still living in the world? “Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!” These are all things destined to perish with use; they accord with human precepts and teachings.Colossians 2:7-22

Yes Vanderhoven, I agree with you that's why I took the freedom given by God through his Son and do not associate with WT because of all the inaccuracies they teach. However, the freedom to celebrate days with arbitrary provenance is not part of christian life either. If you do not celebrate all these public holidays you will be shunned by those who do too.
