Are the J.W's reaching a "Tipping point"?
by karter ini haven't been to a meeting in 15 years but my mother and sister are hard as j.w's.
the brothers they are appointing elders are at best suspect like one guy from my old hall made elder, big time drug used before becoming a j.w his talks are all over the place and would have struggled to make m,s years ago but with at least 60 to 70 % of young ones leaving the pool to pick from is at best reduced.. 2 other recent elders both young and zero life experience both on benefits one not well at all falls asleep all the time.. the decent, kind elders mostly older and are decent people with alot of life experience are burning out fast as there are so few of them left like 3 per congro of 100 publishers.. then you have the rich elders who wouldn't ever think of inviting some poor older or mis-fit person out to the expensive placers they go to as they couldn't afford to go so they are above the r&f and the r&f get pissed off with them.
then we have the ones who have "put the kingdom 1st" who are now old worn out and barely getting by from welfare cheque to welfare cheque that are saying "the system should have been over many years ago" it's still here and they are struggling everyday.. then there are the pioneers who have a low payed reduced hour job that seem to think anyone who has anything is totally materialistic and looks down on anyone getting a new car buying a house ect.. along with the child abuse issues, the generation change, access to information the the g.b don't want anyone to know ,not to mention the issues around blood.. is there a tipping point coming????

It's now 2018, any further insights on the future of JWs from those of us still gracing the kingdom halls with our presence?
My wife while still PIMI doesn't bat an eyelid if we miss the mid week meeting, doesn't even mention why aren't we going to meeting. On occasion she might listen on the link and that's when I really know how truly boring the entire meeting is.
To rush in from work after a long commute, get ready for the midweek meeting and subject yourself to mindless nonsense needs either faith or...???? (finish the sentence please).

Did your children help you wake up?
by Zyron inwhat help me wake up, (still pimo) in addition to lingering doubts throughout most of my life, and i'm in my late 50s, was the questioning from my children when they became teenagers.
i could not honestly defend the origins of the jws, prohibition of birthdays and other celebrations; especially when you realise that the whole belief system is/was based on crazy teachings of a businessman.. the real kicker is when you have a religion that has to produce its own bible to support its beliefs, that's when i knew the whole religion is an expensive and cleverly marketed belief system.
like most religions.. glad to say none of my children want anything to do with jws and two of them don't believe in god.

Is There Any Thing That Would Make A JW SERIOUSLY Question Their Religion?
by minimus ini realize that jehovah’s witnesses have been dumbed down for long time now.
.
still, i think there must be something that would make them really question their beliefs, even their life.. i think that if witnesses were told they could take blood or that disfellowshipping was unloving, they might stop and take a hard look at everything they have sacrificed their lives for.. i know the organization has muddled these subjects before but the i think even die hard witnesses might start to second guess the governing body..

In fact, many JWs will outright tell you they do not want to hear it, if they know you're about to share negative information with them. Classic burying the head in the sand!
This is so true. If my wife senses I'm going to say anything at all negative about JWs she doesn't want to hear it and starts to get angry if I persist.
Because the religion locks people in emotionally, only when they're affected emotionally will they start to ask is this really the truth. People inherently curious mostly likely had a seed of doubt even while doing public talks. Something sparks their curiosity and they leave or become PIMO.
Everyone reacts differently on hearing the same facts, some act, others dismiss them. The earth is flat brigade.

Alternative witnessing
by Zyron inthose of us still attending meeting are actively encouraged to use out tablets or smartphones to direct people to jw.org.
how about, after doing the standard presentation casually say to householder, you can also look at this forum to read of experiences of life as a jw as well as the official version?.
obviously you need to be working by yourself or with a pimo jw..

How much do you think the internet has hurt JW growth?
by HereIgo inthe internet is what helped bring me and so many others out of this evil organization or at least confirmed our doubts.
i have to say, i have seen quite a few youtube videos recently of ex jw's secretly recording their interactions inside of different congregations, halls, etc and see how empty the halls are!
so many people comment on how the attendance is so low, far more emptier than when i was in 6 years ago, even on a weekday meeting.

Agree with you on that. We are the generation that wasn't meant to leave school, but build careers with the organisation.
We now approach retirement, for those of us who disobeyed at least we have a pension or retirement savings. The dream of frolicking with lions and tigers and building mini mansions with a stream flowing through is long dead.

I think it's had a big impact, if not on growth then definitely on the zeal. ( A truly JW word, where have you ever heard the word zeal?).
I read CoC in secret around 2000, that was as a result of the Internet, and confirmed what I already believed. The GB have no direct line to God. The JWs is just another man made religion and the Internet has exposed it as such.
Potential joiners will check the Internet as they do for any purchase large or small. The JWs are no exception. My wife and another sister studied with a woman making good progress who stopped the study abruptly. She checked out JWs on the Internet, didn't like what she found so stopped the study.
I'm sure this is the case for a lot of people in the West who have no association with JWs through family connections.
The internet has helped create a community of ex believers in JW doctrine.

UK Memorial attendances up this year?!
by Isambard Crater inmy congregation had around 25 more people at the memorial last night than last year, and the two other congregations i have family in all experienced a similar increase in about 25 more people present.
umm, i'm surprised, having thought this year would see a memorial decline again.
and i'm kind of disappointed..

Zyron
I guess the key question is how many are genuinely interested people compared to those inactive and pressured to attend like us faders?
I dont have the motivation, but it would be interesting to compare memorial attendance with attendance for the 'special' talk that follows to see how many are really interested.

Does God really care about mankind?
by Sour Grapes ini am dying of cancer.
yesterday i asked my full blown jw wife if she could snap her fingers and make me well would she do so?.
she replied, "yes.

Sorry to hear about what you're going thru. I can't begin to imagine it.
You articulate very well what i thought since I was a teenager, I'm now in my 50s. If I didn't go to work or live in a country with welfare or a social net I would starve to death as millions do.
So really, praying to god before meal times is to thank him for getting a job and being born in the West. Does god only exist for the Western world who don't suffer grinding poverty and rampant corruption?

Just a quick Poll...Do you think the GB is sincere?
by NikL ini've been thinking about this the past few days and curious what the honest consensus is here just for fun.. show of hands,.
is the governing body.... a: completely sincere.
they really do believe what they teach.. b: somewhat sincere.
-
Zyron
Sort of sincere. Probably were at the begining like all of us. They've sacrificed so much and are so heavily invested in the BS they can't leave even if they know in their hearts God doesn't speak to them.
But, how do you admit to 8million + it's a scam? You can't and you don't. So you feign sincerity. And begin to believe it so much so, you really do believe any self fulfilling prophecy means you must be God's chosen ones.
