....when you plan your wedding reception and are told by the elders that serving alcohol would be very unwise, as the groom would be responsible if anyone drank more than they should (field sobriety determined by the local BOE), but it's nobody's business if the same elders have five slices of cake after the dinner.

You Know You're in the Wrong Religion When....
by Vanderhoven7 injust thought a review the following material many have contributed to might be helpful .
you know you are in the wrong religion:1. when the all important question is not: "do you believe in the lord jesus christ?"....but....
"do you believe in the "faithful and discreet slave" appointed in 1919?"2.

How long is a generation?
by LevelThePlayingField inwhat splain does in his talk and chart illustration is make the leap that a generation can have two groups.
and in this case the two groups span more than 108 years.
but no where in scripture is there ever a notion that a generation has two groups.

Can we label this generation? I was thinking "Generation X-panded"

I've been physically out since early 2014. Before that, I was mentally out for a long period of time. Now, having zero contact with family or former friends, plus living in a southeast Asian country where it is possible to not ever see a JW. Since I have discovered this site, I'm learning lots of things about the organization that I wasn't aware of before. It's pretty eye-opening. I also see from time to time brief mentions of changes that have been made recently. Like the TMS being replaced with something called the CLAM (hilarious, btw). Someone mentioned no District Overseers? I know that the cart sitting is getting big, but has that changed the door knocking policy?
I don't have any real need to know what's going on. Just curiosity. Kind of like when you leave a job after several years and are catching up with former coworkers about the silly things that are happening in the shop or what stupid thing "Wally" said last week.
My question is: what has changed since say... 2013?

So my very first thoughts ran to the opening theme to the short-lived TV show, Firefly. I definitely like these better:
Take my love, take my land,
Take me where I cannot stand.
I don't care, I'm still free,
You can't take the sky from me.
Take me out to the black,
Tell them I ain't comin back.
Burn the land and boil the sea,
You can't take the sky from me.
There's no place, I can be,
Since I've found Serenity.
And you can't take the sky from me. -

Do You Know Any “Gay” Jehovah’s Witnesses?
by minimus inof course the religion condemns homosexuality but did you know any gay witnesses?
i knew some bethelites that were very effeminate and i remember 4 women who were suspected of being lesbians by many in the congregation.
they eventually moved away and were very vocal against males, especially elders..

Many years ago when I was still in and serving as an elder, I was playing around online and noticed that my wife's nephew "Jared" (also and elder/pioneer) was online as well. Using a little feature of the online platform, I hit "goto_xxxxx" and landed in the middle of a gay chatroom, where I was almost immediately send a private message by "Jared". He didn't know it was me, as I was using an ID unknown to anyone. So I trolled him a little bit, and then sent him a private message from outside the chatroom using my known ID. I let him know that I caught him.
I wasn't offended that he was gay...I had suspected it for years. I was a little pissed that he was doing it while married with a small kid. He tried to tell me that it was work-related and that he had been assigned to catch a co-worker who was spending time in chatrooms instead of working... Of course I didn't believe him. But I also didn't turn him in. We never mentioned it again. I never told anyone. A few years later he was deleted and almost disfellowshipped for something, and he ended up in therapy. I honestly wish that I had been able to let him open up to me and talk about it long before, but of course, I would have toed the corporate line back then.
I find it interesting how my personal views have changed so much about homosexuality and other things since I left the JW.cult.

Dying here. One question that the cringeworthy official video raises with the stripper/lapdance scenario: If my neighbor's dog humps my leg, thereby grinding his sexual organ against me for stimulation, am I guilty of pornea?

Ex-jw Fifth interviews Bethelite from 1975. Well worth watching!
by Diogenesister inanother great interview by fifth here.
this lady was at bethel in 1975 and reminisces that many women at bethel expressed enormous regret at not having a family.
it seems that many witnesses back then were aware that watchtower really didn't know what they were talking about when it came to making predictions.. https://youtu.be/7dyooih3fji.

Damn. Saw that it lasted 48 minutes, and thought I'd just stick around for maybe five. Couldn't stop.

When I was at Bethel (WTF, 1988-9) some friends of mine were visiting and I was able to get them invited for the noon meal. We had a GB visiting at the time (don't remember who), and after the closing remarks, my friends rushed over to have their pictures taken with him, and possibly have their copy of the bible signed. I cannot say for certain that the Bible-signing happened, but I do remember that the hero-worship displayed really bothered me a lot.

That guy (and the others) is so cringy to watch and listen to. I haven't attended in over four years, but no way in hell would I be able to sit there and view this shit on a video screen. Is this really what the meetings have become now? My parents and my children are still in and they have zero contact with me. It saddens me to know that I brought up two kids in this cult.

I remember getting pretty pissed at my mom because she took it upon herself to throw away a heavy, ceramic mortar and pestle I got from an estate sale, because she didn't know what it was and it had "strange" figures on it. (It was from somewhere in Asia and simply had different alphabet characters that she didn't understand)
